What to try first
Exit the Riot Client from the tray, reopen it and launch VALORANT again.
Riot's table carries a warning. Riot has flagged its VALORANT code list as out of date, because a bug is making some VALORANT errors show up wrong. If the steps here don't match what you're seeing, Riot suggests a support ticket.
Is it you or Riot? If a lot of players got the same code at once, it's likely the servers. Check Riot's service status page for VALORANT before you start reinstalling things.
A timeout, and a restart to clear it
Riot's explanation for VAL 43 is brief: a system has timed out. The table doesn't say which system. Its advice is to restart the Riot Client, which makes a fresh attempt at whatever timed out.
Do it properly. Exit from the tray icon, not the window's X, so the background process actually closes. Then reopen the client and launch.
When lots of people get it at once
A timeout can be your connection or Riot's servers. If VAL 43 shows up across your friends list at the same moment, it's the servers, and restarting won't help until Riot fixes it. Check the status page or the VALORANT Discord before you go further. If it's only you and it won't go away, send Riot a ticket. Riot marks the table these codes come from as out of date right now, so support is the best route for a stubborn one.

Restart the Riot Client
Close VALORANT, right-click the Riot Client's tray icon and pick Exit. If you can't find the icon, open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc and end
RiotClientServices.exe. Start the client again and press Play.Look for a known outage
When the fault is on Riot's side, it says so in a banner across the top of its support site and on the official VALORANT Discord. Riot's service status page lists open incidents too. If one matches, nothing on your end will clear it, so wait for the fix.
Send Riot a support ticket
If the steps above don't clear it, open a ticket with Riot Player Support from the VALORANT support site and include the exact code you saw. Riot can see account-side problems that you can't.
