LoL Higher or Lower

Two champions show up side by side. Tap the one Riot released first. A right answer shows both dates for a moment, then swaps in two champions you haven't seen yet this run. A wrong answer ends the run, and so does the clock: from the second pair on you get six seconds.

Early pairs sit years apart. Keep going and they close in until you're splitting champions a few months apart. All 173 champions are in, and the dates match our champion release dates list. Your best streak goes on the leaderboard under the same name you use for LoL Trivia and Connections.

How do you play LoL Higher or Lower?

You get two League of Legends champions. Tap the one that came out first. Get it right and both release dates flash up and two new champions slide in. One wrong pick ends the run, and your score is how many you got in a row.

Is there a time limit?

Yes, from the second pair on. Each pick gets six seconds, and the bar under the question turns red when two are left. The first pair has no clock, so you can settle in before it starts.

Does it get harder the longer you go?

Yes, slowly. The first ten pairs are at least five years apart, so anyone who's played for a while should get them. From twenty in a row the gaps start closing, and past forty you're splitting champions a month or two apart, often from the same season. Two champions released on the same day never face each other.

Where do the release dates come from?

From our champion release dates page, which lists every champion with the day and patch they arrived. The game reads that same list, so a date you see here always matches the one there.

Is there a daily puzzle?

No, it's endless. Play as many runs as you like. The leaderboard keeps your best streak, and the Today board shows the best run anyone has had since midnight UTC.

What about the champions from launch day?

Annie, Ashe, Master Yi and the rest of the first seventeen all share February 21, 2009, so they never face each other. You'll still see them up against later champions.

Do I need an account?

No. Your first pick gives you a Summoner number, the same one LoL Trivia, Connections and Skin Guesser use. Sign in with Google or Discord to keep it on another device.
