How to play LoL Connections
Sixteen tiles hide four groups of four. A group can be champions from one region, things you only see in the jungle, items, summoner spells, skin lines or a bit of wordplay. Select four tiles and press Submit. You can make four mistakes. Some tiles look like they fit two groups, and that's on purpose (exactly one way of splitting the board works).
The game sits next to LoL Trivia, uses the same player name, and has its own tab on the leaderboard.
LoL Connections questions
- How do you play LoL Connections?
- Pick four tiles you think share something, then hit Submit. Get a group right and it locks in with its color and name. Get it wrong and you lose one of your four mistakes. Find all four groups before the mistakes run out.
- What do the colors mean?
- Yellow is the most direct group and purple the most devious, with green and blue in between. Purple is usually wordplay (a hidden word, or a name that's also a verb).
- Where can I find hints or today's answers?
- We don't post the answers, since that would spoil the daily board for everyone. Some hints that work on any puzzle: the purple group is usually wordplay, so look for a word hiding inside the names. A tile that seems to fit two groups is normally the one to leave until last. If the board feels stuck, hit Shuffle, because it breaks up pairs your eye keeps grouping.
- What does "One away" mean?
- Three of your four tiles belong together and one doesn't. It still costs a mistake, so swap one tile rather than starting over.
- When is there a new puzzle?
- Every day at midnight UTC. The puzzle number goes up by one, and yesterday's puzzle moves into the archive, where you can still play it.
- Can I play more than one a day?
- Yes. Every past daily stays playable from the archive, and there's a separate set of practice puzzles you can work through at any time. They all count toward your puzzles solved.
- How are the puzzles made?
- Each group comes from a checked list: Riot's own game data for things like resource bars and skin lines, the site's lore map for regions, and hand-built lists for spells, items, slang and the wordplay groups. Before a puzzle is published, a script tries every way to split its 16 tiles into groups and throws the puzzle out if there's more than one answer.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Your first guess gives you a Summoner number, the same one LoL Trivia uses, and your results count from there. Sign in with Google or Discord if you want to keep the name on another device.
- How does the leaderboard rank players?
- The daily board counts today's puzzle only: solvers first, then fewest mistakes, then the fastest time from your first guess. The all-time board ranks Dailies solved first. Practice puzzles solved break a tie, then perfect solves, then your best daily streak.
