What it means

The VALORANT server you need is down, for scheduled maintenance or an emergency fix.

What to try first

Check Riot's status page or the VALORANT Discord, then try logging in again later.

Riot's table carries a warning. Riot has flagged its VALORANT code list as out of date, because a bug is making some VALORANT errors show up wrong. If the steps here don't match what you're seeing, Riot suggests a support ticket.

Is it you or Riot? If a lot of players got the same code at once, it's likely the servers. Check Riot's service status page for VALORANT before you start reinstalling things.

Nothing to fix on your PC

Riot's VALORANT table labels 39 as an unavailable server and says the server may be down for planned or emergency maintenance. Its only advice is to try logging in again later. Reinstalling, changing DNS or restarting the router won't bring a server back.

Riot's table also has code 46 for planned platform downtime, with the same advice to log in again later. Either way, it's on Riot's side.

How long to wait

Riot doesn't give a time. The status page and the official VALORANT Discord are where it posts maintenance windows and incident updates, so check there instead of retrying every minute. If every other player you know can get in and you still see 39 hours later, that's when a ticket makes sense.

Riot's fix, in Riot's order

  1. Look for a known outage

    When the fault is on Riot's side, it says so in a banner across the top of its support site and on the official VALORANT Discord. Riot's service status page lists open incidents too. If one matches, nothing on your end will clear it, so wait for the fix.

  2. Wait, then log in again

    This one is Riot's servers being down, for scheduled maintenance or an emergency fix. There's nothing to change on your PC. Give it some time and try again.
