League of Legends error

League says your game has crashed: breaking the quick repair loop

In gameLeague + VALORANT

The message

It looks like your game has crashed. We're doing a quick repair and will automatically launch you back into game as soon as we can

What it means

The game closed on you and the client is repairing files before it relaunches you into the match. Riot lists this exact message under an update bug tied to old Intel graphics drivers.

What to try first

Let the repair finish once. If the crash repeats, update your Intel graphics driver if you have integrated Intel graphics, then work through Riot's crash checklist below.

Is it you or Riot? If lots of players are hitting this at once, it's probably the servers. Check League server status before you start reinstalling things.

When the repair keeps coming back

One crash and one quick repair is the client doing its job. It's the loop that needs fixing: crash, repair, relaunch, crash again.

Riot's only article naming this message is a shared League and VALORANT page from July 8, 2024. It blames an update for six symptoms at once, including a client that stops responding and "You've lost connection to our services". Those two pages go further into what the bug looks like.

Riot's fix for this message

  1. On a PC with integrated Intel graphics, update the graphics driver. Riot says older versions aren't signed correctly.
  2. Exempt VALORANT and Vanguard in your antivirus, or turn the antivirus off if exempting them doesn't work. Some antivirus programs had badly signed files themselves.
  3. Bring your other drivers and firmware up to date (motherboard, processor and so on).
  4. Still crashing? Contact Riot Player Support.

Riot's general crash checklist

If you don't have Intel graphics, or that didn't stop it, Riot's Troubleshooting Game Crashes article (updated May 19, 2026) is the next stop. It covers crashes to desktop, crash reports, a black screen on launch and full freezes, and its reasoning is that League leans on current drivers and Windows software.

  1. Check the minimum requirements.
  2. Update the graphics driver. Run dxdiag from Win+R and look at the Display tab to see whose card you have. NVIDIA, AMD and Intel each offer a tool that finds and installs the right driver.
  3. Update DirectX and Windows. Riot scheduled the end of DirectX 9 support in League for Patch 14.9, on May 1, 2024, so an old DirectX is worth ruling out.
  4. Install .NET Framework 3.5. League depends on it, and having 4.0 doesn't cover it.
  5. Close overlays or do a clean boot. Riot names Skype, TeamSpeak and Steam as overlay programs that can crash League. Test in a custom game afterwards.
  6. Reset your graphics card software. In NVIDIA Control Panel that's Manage 3D Settings, then Restore Defaults. AMD's Catalyst Control Center has Restore Factory Defaults under Preferences. Profiles set there can override League's own settings.
  7. Turn the video settings down. Press Esc in game, open Video and set everything to its lowest, with the frame rate capped at 60 and vertical sync and anti-aliasing off. Match the resolution to your desktop.
  8. Switch off the debug version of DirectX. Open the DirectX Control Panel (the one that isn't 64-bit), go to the Direct3D 9 tab and pick the retail version. Riot's signs of the debug version are fog of war over the whole map and scenery that doesn't animate.
