"Your card information is invalid": Riot can't tell who issued your card

Your card information is invalid.

What Riot's store is checking

Before your bank ever sees the payment, Riot's store reads the card number to work out who issued it. When it can't (and it's a pretty early check, before any money moves), you get this message. Riot's billing article (updated May 22, 2026) ties it to that one step, which is why the fix is all about the numbers you typed.

Re-enter the card number and the security code, and leave out spaces. Pasting a number straight off a banking app often brings the gaps along with it. A single dropped digit does the same thing.

Go slowly with retries

Riot warns that piling up attempts can do your account more harm than good. The store also caps how many transactions you get in 24 hours, so a bit of patience here saves you a day later. Keep hammering the button and you'll swap this message for the too-many-attempts lockout, which shuts you out of card purchases for a full day.

If the details are right and the store accepts them, but the payment then fails, you've moved on to a different problem: a decline from your card provider. Riot also covers a rarer case (the game client and the store miscommunicating mid-purchase). For that one it says to wait 15 minutes, restart the client, then have one more go.
