You log in and the League client closes on its own. Riot usually traces it to an authentication error or some other breakdown in how the client and your PC talk to each other.
What to try first
Set League's shortcut to Run as administrator from its Compatibility tab, then log in again.
Is it you or Riot? If lots of players are hitting this at once, it's probably the servers. Check League server status before you start reinstalling things.
No error box, just an empty desktop
There's nothing to screenshot here. The client opens, takes your login, and then it's gone. Riot's short article (last updated September 4, 2025) blames an authentication error in most cases, or a wider miscommunication between the client and Windows, and gives three fixes. Each one is small, so go through them in order and try logging in after each.
1. Run League as administrator
- Right-click your League of Legends shortcut and open Properties.
- On the Compatibility tab, tick Run as Administrator and apply.
Riot's article still has a line for Windows XP (log in to an administrator account there instead), which tells you how old the text is.
2. Sync the Windows clock
Right-click the clock on your taskbar and pick Adjust date/time. Go to the Internet Time tab and click Change settings. Windows may ask for permission (a UAC prompt), and after that Update now resyncs the time.
3. Turn the firewall off for a test
Switch off any third-party firewall first, then log in. For the one built into Windows, the path is Control Panel, System and Security, Windows Firewall, then Turn Windows Firewall on or off. Pick the off option for every network location. Windows may want the admin password on the way.
