How to Beat Kha'Zix
Kha'Zix isn't looking for a fight. He's looking for one person who walked somewhere on their own.
He's an assassin with a condition attached. Alone, his target takes a completely different amount of damage than they do with a teammate nearby, and the gap between those two numbers is most of what makes him frightening. Everything else follows from that. He won't open a fight, he won't stand in one, and he won't take a duel he didn't choose. What he does is wait for somebody to ward a corner by themselves, and then that person is gone and the map is a player short. Beating him is about making that person never exist, and about surviving the one burst if it arrives anyway.
- Enough health or armor to survive the opening burst
- A lockdown he can't leap out of
- Vision in the places people ward alone

Kha'Zix Overview
Strengths: What Makes Him Dangerous
- Isolation multiplies everything. Taste Their Fear [Q] against somebody standing on their own does a lot more than the same ability against somebody standing in a group, and the difference is the champion.
- A kill pays for the escape. The leap comes back when he finishes somebody, so the punishment for picking off a lone player is often that he's already gone before anybody arrives.
- He picks which version of himself to be. The evolutions let him lean into range, into stealth or into the single target burst, and by the time you know which one he took, the build that answers it is already half bought.
- He's happy doing nothing. A jungler who wins by waiting is very hard to play against, because the pressure that usually forces a mistake doesn't apply to somebody who wasn't going to move anyway.
Weaknesses: Where You Get In
- He's nothing in a real fight. Five people in one place is the worst possible situation for him. He has barely any crowd control and very little to contribute if he can't pick a target off first.
- Isolation is a choice your team makes. It's the single largest number in his kit (and standing near somebody switches it off). That's free, and it's available at every point in the game.
- He dies to being caught. He's fragile, and a lockdown that outlasts his window leaves him stuck in the middle of a group with nothing to do about it.
- He has to commit to enter. The leap in is a decision. If the burst doesn't finish the job, he's standing in a fight he didn't want, on a champion built for the fight he did want.
- Vision beats him more cheaply than items do. He needs the target to be somewhere nobody is looking. A lit map is a map with fewer of those places on it.
Countering Kha'Zix
Based on the strengths and weaknesses above, beating Kha'Zix comes down to champions who can accomplish at least one of the following:
- Walk in pairs in the late game. It costs nothing. His best ability against a group is an ordinary one, and the only person who can change that is the person who wandered off.
- Bring a lockdown longer than his window. Something he can't leap out of (a slow won't do), applied at the moment he lands, so he's the one who ends up stuck.
- Buy defense on the target rather than damage on the answer. He's aiming at one person. Surviving the opening burst is worth more than punishing it afterward, because there's usually no afterward.
- Ward the corners over the objectives. The places he uses are the places somebody walks alone: a side brush, a jungle entrance, the path back to lane. Those are the ones worth lighting up.
If you're already locked into the matchup without any of those tools, these strategies still work:
Playing a Bad Kha'Zix Matchup
Take the early objectives while he's still clearing. He isn't a strong early jungler in a straight fight and the game where nothing happens for fifteen minutes is exactly the game he was hoping to be handed.
Ping the person who's about to be alone rather than the champion who's missing. Knowing where he is helps a little. Knowing that your support has walked into the enemy jungle by themselves helps a lot more.
When the burst lands and the target lives, turn immediately. That's the only moment in the matchup where he's standing still and out of options, and it lasts about as long as it takes to decide not to use it.
Best Kha'Zix Counters
Survive the opening, stop him leaving, or simply never be the person standing on their own.

Zac Does Not Die To One Burst
The burst is priced against a squishy target and he's the opposite of one. Kha'Zix landing his whole opening on a huge health bar that then gets back up is a wasted commitment.
He also arrives from a long way away, so the jungler waiting quietly for somebody to be isolated is frequently the one who ends up isolated.

Warwick Wins The Early Duel
The early jungle isn't close, and taking his camps carries almost no risk in the window before the evolutions exist.
The lockdown is the other half. A suppression isn't something a leap gets out of, and it lasts long enough for everybody else to get there.

Rammus Holds Him In Place
Frenzying Taunt [E] is point-and-click, and a taunted Kha'Zix can't leap anywhere. He walks at Rammus and swings, which is the worst thing he can do into Defensive Ball Curl [W].
The curl piles on armor, and nearly all of his damage is physical. Every basic attack he lands into it hurts him back, so the burst that deletes a squishy target barely dents Rammus.
Itemizing Against Kha'Zix
Everything here is aimed at the same thirty seconds: the moment he lands on somebody:

Zhonya's Hourglass is the cleanest answer in the game to a champion who has to commit to enter, because it turns his opening into a wasted trip and leaves him standing where everybody can reach him. Guardian Angel does something slightly different and just as useful: it takes away the kill, and the kill is what pays for his escape. Plated Steelcaps is the correct boot for whoever he's hunting (almost all of his damage is physical, and a great deal of it arrives as attacks between the spells). A Control Ward is on the list because his best ability is only his best ability in the dark, and the corners of the map are cheaper to light than a build slot is to spend.
