Instructions and Caveats:

• This tier list details which champions are most popular in today's current metagame, for better or for worse. Selecting a high popularity champion and doing mediocre is always favorable to selecting a low tier champion and doing mediocre for team morale.

God Tier: These champions are common bans and are likely perceived as being "overall extremely strong/broken". They have very obvious and/or flashy skills that make them appear stronger than other champions. You'll likely see these champions picked early on if they're not banned.

Tier 1: These champions are the ones you'll see in the majority of your games and are good to familiarize yourself with as you'l be battling against them a lot.

Tier 2: These champions are relatively strong and have historically been picked more often than other champions. They may have been nerfed at one point at another, but are still perceived as strong in their current states.

Tier 3: These champions aren't quite as popular as the rest of the champions in the first 3 tiers, but picking them one at a time isn't going to cause much of a concern on your team. However, if you have a team of 5 of them your teammates are likely to feel a bit uneasy about your chances of winning in solo queue.

Tier 4: Selecting these champions will likely cause a rift between you and your teammates, who will proceed to flame you if you fail your lane. Exercise caution when selecting these champions, as team morale often plays a big part in victory or defeat.

Champion Explanations

• Ashe [Tier 1 Marksman] - After nerfs to Lucian and other "carry" based marksmen, players are starting to shift back towards utility marksmen like Sivir and Ashe again. As a result of their abilities to self-initiate, dynamic queue players are less reliant on their teammates for play-making, and thus better able to snowball games at opportune moments.
• Fizz [Tier 1 Jungle] - Fizz is no longer as powerful in the jungle after they nerfed his W. This resulted in a lower damage potential for tank Fizz, which was the primary build path for junglers. However, his full AP mid damage levels are still quite high, and most Fizz players are moving back to the center stage.
• Gangplank [Tier 3 Mid] - After the changes to Trinity Force, Gangplank is now a less burst-oriented and more auto-attack oriented champion. As a result, most players who used to take him mid are now opting to place him top instead. This results in more opportunity to get up close and personal with the enemy laner.
• Hecarim [Tier 1 Jungle] - Meanwhile, the Trinity Force changes were an absolute godsend for champions like Hecarim, who relied little on crit but heavily on attack speed for clears and cooldown for increased sustained damage. As a result, Hecarim is back on top as a powerful ganking jungler with excellent sustained damage.
• Illaoi [Tier 1 Top] - Shortly after the 6.11 buffs, Illaoi started to rise quickly through the ranks as a formidable top laner. By giving her reduced cooldowns on her ability to proc her tentacles along with percentage damage, Illaoi is much stronger at all phases throughout the game.
• Sion [Tier 3 Support] - Apparently many Koreans are starting to pick up Sion support, which was previously highlighted as a weird pick a while back on this site. More information here. 
• Teemo [Tier 1 Top] - Despite being renown as a champion that's not team-oriented, Teemo is still a powerful lane bully and can be highly impactful as well. Most players also end up building slightly tanky on him via his attack speed + Frozen Mallet build, which suits the meta.
• Viktor [God Tier Mid] - Recent professional mid lane selections have brought Viktor back up to the top. An all-time favorite with powerful burst damage and great AOE potential, Viktor's just running around doing Viktor things.
• Vladimir [God Tier Top] - Vladimir is the new must-ban massive rage inducer when it comes to "Riot nerfplz" requests. His ability as a hypercarry late game is commonly known, but his new empowered Q mechanic means that he can effectively zone out the enemy laner any time that it comes up. If the enemy laner does not know about the burst, they quickly find themselves in some very poor trades.
• Zyra [Tier 3 Mid] - Zyra mid is currently at a "playable" status, but is not a priority pick for most players. Although her support potential is very high, most players prefer champions with high outplay potential in the mid lane and thus she largely goes unselected.
