Top Team Comps #99: Unstoppable Juggernaut

Today I'd like to introduce you to a team I had the displeasure of facing off against, a team with two supports and the most fed Darius I've ever seen. Killing him was near impossible, and the speed at which he ran at you with Lulu and Karma boosting him? Well let's just say I hope I never have to see that again...here's how it all went down:

Today I'd like to introduce you to a team I had the displeasure of facing off against, a team with two supports and the most fed Darius I've ever seen. Killing him was near impossible, and the speed at which he ran at you with Lulu and Karma boosting him? Well let's just say I hope I never have to see that again...here's how it all went down:

Champions

  • Kai'Sa [Marksman] - Picking up a marksman isn't really core to the build, since it's all about King Darius. On the other hand, you definitely want a marksman, so let's toss in Kai'Sa into the mix since she's incredibly strong right now. You could also substitute with Jinx for the reset synergy.
  • Lulu [Mid] - Lulu mid is surprisingly decent. She's safe to play and tough to kill, and she provides a decent amount of damage combined with an incredible amount of utility as a mid-laner. She's not a burst-type, but provides a solid amount of continuous damage and of course, will make Darius impossible to stop.
  • Karma [Support] - The days of Karma support dominating the bot lane are in the past, but she's no slouch. Her laning phase is still good, and her team speed boost of always a welcome addition to any team.
  • Rammus [Jungler] - Rammus is a jungler that doesn't need any additional speed boosts to keep up with a Darius empowered by Lulu, Karma, and Black Cleaver. This gives Darius the perfect dive buddy who can hold his own and hold enemies in place for extreme dunking.
  • Darius [Top Laner] - The cornerstone of this team composition, Darius has it all. He self-heals, initiates, resets off kills, and overall does an insane amount of damage. Just when you think you've got him killed he just gets back up for more. When you first see this team composition you might think it's a Kai'Sa team comp, but that's where you'd be wrong. It's King Darius that's taking all the kills and he'll be doing it with victory in mind...along with that sweet KDA.

Key Concepts

  • Camp Darius' lane early on, Kai'Sa and Karma will likely be pressuring their lane heavily and it will be difficult to gank. Later on, you can shift your focus from Darius to Kai'Sa if it somehow drags on to 40~50 minutes.

Countering

Countering this team largely means snowballing off the supports and keeping some range for kiting.

Here is an example team that may succeed:
  • Fizz [Mid] - An assassin like Fizz can be outplayed by a peel champion like Lulu, but if that doesn't work out he can always roam bot to pick on Karma.
  • Kindred [Jungle] - Grab some range and cancel out Darius' ultimate reset by adding Kindred to the mix.
  • Pantheon [Top] - In order to keep Darius down, you'll want to make sure to bully him as much as possible in lane. Few do it better than Pantheon, and his W will allow you to dodge the brunt of Darius' mid-range Q.
  • Soraka [Support] - Between her silence and her global kill negation, Soraka is ideal to prevent Darius from repeatedly dunking your team. Careful though, if he gets too fed he might just one shot her.
  • Varus [Marksman] - Between his crowd-control and his built-in heal reduction, Varus is the ideal counter.
Overall this counter team is largely a kite heavy team, which makes it more difficult to execute properly. However, if done correctly it's an excellent counter to the original team comp.
