Introduction

As Season 8 ramps up to start on January 16th, this seems like a good time to put together some strong team compositions that you can use for your upcoming ranked games. This particular team composition is a very team-oriented composition that features large sets of AOE crowd-control spells. It has excellent initiation potential via Kled ultimate, and also counter-initiates well by using Taric's ultimate at opportune times.

Champions

Varus [Marksman] - Varus provides a good blend of poke and all-in damage. In this composition however, he'll be doing primarily sustained damage through his autos and snowballing through the teamfight. Make sure to keep him alive while the team's crowd-control is activating and you'll see some great results. You could also replace him with Ashe for longer range but smaller scale initiation.

---

Taliyah [Mid] - Taliyah is a very mobile champion with powerful waveclear. What she brings to the team is an early to mid-game map control capability through her powerful roams. Later on, she can also position herself to cut off the enemy team via her ultimate, making them a sitting duck for Kled and the rest of the team to follow-up.

--

Taric[Support] - Using Taric's ultimate on the team is the main reason why this team can be so aggressive via Kled and crowd-control stacking. By placing Taric in close proximity to his marksman, the rest of the team can engage at will knowing that it will be difficult for a flanking assassin to end their primary source of damage.

---

Sejuani [Jungler] - Sejuani's damage is awfully high for a full tank, but of course it's her difficult-to-kill nature and awesome initiation that allows her to be a cornerstone of this composition. If necessary, she could also be swapped out for someone like Maokai or potentially Amumu.

---

Kled [Top Laner] - Kled is another cornerstone component of this team composition, and his team relies heavily on him to get Varus into position for full effect. He also ends up a being a dive buddy to Sejuani; this allows Taric to free up as peel.

Key Concepts

  • Ban out champions like Anivia, which will prevent clean initiations. You can work around it, but it just tends to be more difficult.
  • Protect Varus, this team deals decent damage without him, but as the slow and squishy member of the team, he'll need some help surviving as the main target.

Countering

Countering this team involves heavily pushing disengage and potentially an assassin with an escape mechanism.

Here is an example team that may succeed:
  • Anivia [Mid] - Heavy waveclear combined with her powerful ice wall will stop the enemy team or split them apart, preventing the wombo from taking full effect.
  • Jarvan IV [Jungle] - Isolate their backline and potentially delete Varus before he can ramp up.
  • Maokai [Top] - Does well against Kled as a result of his passive and also provides good engage/counter-engage potential.
  • Janna [Support] - What better peel than Janna? Keep your own marksman alive and you'll be able to survive thrrough a lot.
  • Vayne [Marksman] - With an enemy team as tanky as this, you'll want some sort of high suvivability tank killer.
Overall, this team is a lot more difficult to synergize well, but has good potential to win games as well.
