Optimal Best Champions Bans At Each Division - Patch 6.13 July List

Hey everyone! Just wanted to do a quick update to the optimal champion ban list since I know it's fallen a bit by the wayside lately. Since our last update quite a few changes occurred, which you'll find below.

I am also going to start reducing the number of bans a bit since we only have six, and also leave out historical movements to make this a quick process.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to do a quick update to the optimal champion ban list since I know it's fallen a bit by the wayside lately. Since our last update quite a few changes occurred, which you'll find below. 

I am also going to start reducing the number of bans a bit since we only have six, and also leave out historical movements to make this a quick process.

The purpose of this list is to discover optimal bans, with the knowledge that enemy teams will likely ban the ones at the top of the list.

Banning Thought Process

1. Which champions could the enemy team pick that would really screw my team over?
2. Which champions could the enemy team pick that would really screw ME over?
3. Which of the champions above is the enemy team likely going to pick if it's not banned?
4. Which of the champions above is the enemy team probably going to ban?

After considering these items, it's time to hit the ban phase.

God Tier [Likely/Should Bans]: Vladimir, Irelia, Hecarim, Nidalee
Good Bans [Popular Strong Champions]: Kha'Zix, Yasuo, Leblanc, Malzahar, Janna, Karma

Meh Bans [Probable But Unnecessary Bans]: Zed, Azir, Fizz, Ryze, Swain

Platinum

God Tier [Likely/Should Bans]: Irelia, Hecarim, Malzahar, Darius

Good Bans [Popular Strong Champions]: Jhin, Blitzcrank, Janna

Meh Bans [Probable But Unnecessary Bans]: Vladimir, Zed, Fizz, Azir, Yasuo, Leblanc, Swain

Gold

God Tier [Likely/Should Bans]: Irelia, Darius, Malzahar, Hecarim, Swain
Good Bans [Popular Strong Champions]: Jhin, Blitzcrank

Good Bans [Popular Strong Champions]: Blitzcrank, Volibear, Amumu

Meh Bans [Probable But Unnecessary Bans]: Zed, Vladimir, Leblanc, Ekko

Method

To do this list, I first start with whichever statistical compilation site I have available (my personal preference is leagueofgraphs.com). Afterwards, I check the most banned champions and separate them into either "God Tier" or "Meh Bans" based on win rate and popularity, sometimes subjective reasoning (in which case I'd do a write up).

Last I do an analysis of both the win rate and the popularity by division and add in good bans for that division based on such.

Some people may note that most sites don't distinguish between "Platinum Only" and "Platinum and Higher". However, this generally doesn't make much of a difference as a result of the way the overall player distribution is between the ranks. Bronze and Silver make up the highest percentage of error, but generally run similar to each other.

Explanations

• Vladimir [God Tier - Diamond] - Vladimir is really only a good ban at Diamond and above. Below this, most players do not use his cooldowns well enough to warrant a ban, and he tends to hold a very subpar win rate even when he makes it through champion select. This is likely because players will select him because he's "overpowered" and not because they had any real experience playing him. 
• Ryze [Meh Ban - Diamond] - There are always a few scripters or smurfs in Diamond that make people think "holy **** Ryze is broken". However, the majority of players cannot play Ryze at that kind of inhuman level, so leaving him open is not a real problem.
• Jhin [Good Ban - Platinum and below] - On the Top 5 most popular marksman, Jhin is the one champion that consistently beats up both Ezreal and Lucian. As a result, if you ban him your team will have a much better chance of success (especially if your marksman picks Ezreal or Lucian like they always do).
• Blitzcrank [Good Ban - Platinum and below] - Blitzcrank is THE go-to support at Platinum and below, and most players default to either him or Thresh when available. If you ban Blitzcrank, they will likely grab Thresh, who is much easier to deal with.
• Volibear [Good Ban - Silver and below] - Volibear does extremely well against players who underestimate his passive, and is very popular among players who enjoy watching certain streamers. As a result, banning him at silver and below is a decent idea to take players out of their comfort zone if you are planning on picking one of the God Tier bans.
