PRESEASON 5 UPDATE
This List has been updated, and new versions are available via this link
One patch after the first chaotic Preseason updates, things aren't looking any quieter and tons of switch ups are coming up this patch. With the number of buffs and nerfs Riot's dishing out, it's no wonder that some old favorites have jumped back into the fray.
Ranged junglers are also gaining popularity this patch, but for the sake of simplicity, I'm not doing a full out update on that yet as I think traditional junglers still hold the edge.

- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions UNDERLINED may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
- Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
- This tier list takes data from ALL players; however, since the majority of players fall in the first three tiers, the majority of data points will come from there.
- Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength, but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
- The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.
Champion Explanations
- Cassiopeia [Tier 1 Mid] - Cass's buffs this patch are absolutely insane. The change on her twin fang give her back some of her early game that was missing earlier, and by smoothing out more of her skills that scale by level, she can stack her passive much faster than before. This gives her a decent early game and monsterous mid to late game.
- Jarvan IV [Jungle God] - The buffs this patch around weren't particularly amazing for Jarvan, but the nerfs on the big 3 (Warwick, Fiddlesticks, and Pantheon) mean that his presence is more meaningful in comparison now.
- Jax [Tier 2 Top] - Jax is much more user friendly now, and the cooldown reduction in his counter strike give him more margin to decide when to trade and when to turtle during laning phase.
- Kalista [Tier 3 ADC] - Kalista at the moment seems to offer less than usual in way of a traditional glass cannon ranged marksman. Instead, she seems to rely heavily on making sure her support gets somewhat fed and ahead, which tends to be a little counterproductive. I think she'll be better once more melee heavy cc supports come back into popularity. However, in a solo queue environment dominated by ranged supports, she doesn't synergize nearly as well.
- Kassadin [Tier 2 Mid] - Kassadin is definitely making a comeback, but he still tends to be somewhat of a difficult first pick. He does well against a lot of popular skillshot based champions, but suffers against strong waveclearing sustain champions.
- Kennen [Tier 1 Top] - Kennen received a pretty decent team-fighting buff this patch, which I think works well as a top lane crowd control type addition to most teams. I do tend to believe he's better top than mid though, since he can bully melee type champions harder.
- Lucian [Tier 2 ADC] - Nerfs to Lucian this time around left him pretty stripped. While I think he's still okay to play, he's definitely not as strong as before and requires more finesse and adjusting to his new power levels.
- Morgana [Tier 3 Top] - As a shove/zone champion, Morgana excels, and creates plenty of jungle pressure top lane to gank. However, with her black shield she remains very safe against most gankers. While in a 1v1 or 1v2 situation she does very well, in teamfights her burst tends to be slower and does poorly against highly mobile assassins.
- Pantheon [Tier 2 Jungle] - Changes to Dragon's attack to make it into spell damage have reduced his early game pressure on objectives, meaning that one more early game ward can be used by bot lane to prevent jungle ganks instead of preventing Pantheon cheese.
- Rek'Sai [Tier 2 Top/Jungle]- So far she seems fairly balanced, but as she appears to be a somewhat higher skillcap champion, I expect her potential strength to rise with time as we figure out neat tricks to do with her.
- Sejuani [Jungle God] - Sejuani's "tweaks" this patch have in fact been a blessing, and she's become insanely strong as of this patch. Expect to see a lot more of her in upcoming weeks if not possibly a nerf.
- Swain [Tier 1 Mid/Top] - With the changes to Athene's more people are switching back over to Athene's over Morello's meaning that Swain's power is heavily on the rise again.
- Taric [Tier 2 Support] - I'm not sure why Taric's win rate is spiking so heavily lately. The only direct change I can see is that Targon's brace is now easier to proc and thus easier to get gold with. It seems that Leona and Blitzcrank also shot up a bit this patch so this could very well be the source...were people really having that much difficulty last hitting creeps?
- Twisted Fate [Tier 3 Jungle] - I think that he does require some skill to work into a team composition, although being relatively easy to execute in jungle. Playing into him means one less peeler/front line team member, which tends to reduce chances of winning in solo queue. More information on Twisted Fate jungle available here.
- Warwick [Tier 1 Jungle] - Nerfs on Warwick have brought him back into line with where he used to be before this patch. However, he's still very strong and does well as a duelist, initiation, and as a team buffer.
- Zac [Tier 2 Jungle] - While Zac did get buffed this patch, I don't see a big change in his status. He's always had high teamfight participation, but more often than not, tends to jump in, make a big splash, and bait his teammates into a losing fight. This isn't to say that he's awful, and if a Zac knows his team's damage ouput his initiation is very good. However, the damage he deals often isn't sufficient in comparison with the enemy jungler's counter-initiation, and often teammates die trying to save his passive blobs with little reward.
- Zed [Tier 2 Mid] - Although Win Rates don't mean everything, Zed is a very high skill, high reward champion that needs intimate knowledge of his damage output in comparison with the enemy's armor and HP. This minute calculation coupled with his complex skill mechanics mean that timing and aim are everything, and thus those who want to dedicate long hours into practicing him may be rewarded against similar level players, but will still get stomped by higher level players.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for hero selection.

Any explanation on why Annie is high in the mid tier?
ReplyDeleteShe's extremely strong right now simply because of her burst potential and bullying power, especially since melee mid assassins are popular.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Kassadin bold?
ReplyDeleteAthene´s vs morello??
ReplyDeleteThere is an explanation for Kassadin now.
ReplyDeleteI'd blame taric's winrate rise on the increased popularity of AD mids like Zed, Yasuo, and Jayce. Taric picked into a full AD comp is almost always a win for me, not to mention how easy he is to play.
ReplyDeleteI <3 Annie and have seen a recent rise on her recently. She's my go-to mid laner for solo-queue and am happy to see her high on the list. I would love to see an explanation for her to give her more recognition, but at the same time I don't want my favorite mid laner to be used against me (even though I feel I know all her weaknesses from playing her so much). I wish they'd release another skin for her.
ReplyDeleteWhy Taric's win rate actually went up:
ReplyDeleteONLY reason: MANA CHANGES! Taric had THE lowest base mana regen and mana regen per lvl of all supports in the game, by FAR (it was something like 4 + 0.4 per lvl before). It has been standardized to be the same as all other mages/ tank supports (0.6 + 0.8 per lvl) effective patch 4.20. His win rate immediately spiked after the previous patch.
As someone who used to main Taric, I noticed this immediately. His mana issues were always the biggest gate on his power and now that is alleviated. He is tier 1 worthy imo now.
Nice subtle jab at me with the Zed explanation SSJ :P
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Cass seems insane this patch. What do you recommend building? Most players seem to be going RoA, Sorcs, Rylai's, Deathcap, Void Staff, and Zhonya's. Also, is it a good idea to cap out CDR? The fact her E is on static CD makes it strange that her stacks would give her 25% CDR.....
i tried him once but couldn't make use of his shadow stuff to its full potential.
ReplyDeleteso kha'zix top, is it viable? if so, build and upgrade in order. and summener spells? seems like it would be good. no sustain. idk. i assume mastery and runes stay the same?
ReplyDeleteDo you see Diana top ever becoming a thing?
ReplyDeleteHey, I have been thinking about getting Nautilus for a while now, all the cc and tankiness seemed appealing but I'm not so sure anymore with the change to monster hps in the jungle. What do you think about him? Is he a viable choice or should I get some other tank jungler?
ReplyDeleteCan you add Irelia jungler, Yorick jungler, Diana top and Azir top? Irelia is played one of ten times of her games. Yorick is played a lot of times (10% too). Compared to Garen or Blitz... They have 1% of his games as junglers. Diana and Azir are often and I think they are a good pick against certain champions.
ReplyDeleteCan you answer me why you have Lissandra not in God tier? She beats out almost all top laners, and especially punishes melee laners. Her CC is enough to make your head hurt, and with ionian boots plus morellos you have your q on a 1.8 sec timer, that alone pushes most of the other top laners out. The only match up I have found that matches her is Gnar and maybe Rumble (depending on player skill).
ReplyDeleteAgree, maybe because Cassio, Swain, Irelia or Vladimir?
ReplyDeletelissandra is not god tier because a large portion of her cc is glitchy at best. Her ult can be placed on cool down without doing damage with a well timed movement ability. Her E does not root enemies that have are stunned or knocked up.
ReplyDeleteThey fixed the bug with movement abilities back in patch 4.13 I believe. And as for her e it never rooted enemies at all. It is her one ability that does not have cc attached to it.
ReplyDeleteWell there is a big difference:
ReplyDeleteWith Athene you are tankier, and get more sustain, so you can stay in lane for a while
Morello is more offensive, and it's great against self-healers like Swain, Volibear, and a team with Soraka
Personally, I'd use Athene against AP, and that Pre-zhonya's item + Morello against AD
Hey SSJ, as always, here I am asking what do you think about Ezreal right now.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Manamune + Trinity build? I find it extremely fun and with a huge late game, and the difference between a completely blue build is that it has a decent mid game :^)
Thoughts?
Taric should be tier 1 jungle.
ReplyDeleteIs Yasuo really that bad now even with the new buffs? He certainly seems worthy of tier 2 mid to me...
ReplyDeleteYou're agree, I have to admit that I hate Taric (regarding gameplay), I played him as jungler in season 2... And that. But it makes sense. I tend to be very aware of the winrates and Taric win rate in 54% really impressed me.
ReplyDeleteI think Tear + RoA is too strong. I think CDR in Cassio is a waste. For now the only matchup that has cost me win was Zed, Galio, Diana and Riven mid.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, really depends on the enemy comp. The small buff to Athene's mana regeneration brought it back to the scene as it is now more mana efficient than Morello, but since the Mdef got heavily nerfed imo it depends on your enemies right now: if your enemy team has a lot of sustain (Swain/Vlad/WW...) Morello becomes way more efficient, otherwise just go with Athene's.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I feel the reason Azir isn't played very often top is because of building. To many people try to push the GC build up their with him which screws up the mid-late game when the enemy tank sits on him. Best way to build him in the top is a CDR build with tank items. That way the number of soldiers he can summon at once compensate for the lower damage. I built
ReplyDeleteI built: Boots of Ionia, Rod of Ages, Iceborn, Athene's, Abyssal, Nashor's my first time building him.
Enter every fight with 3 or 4 soldiers, with his q, any squishy in front of that would either die, or be very close to it and would die to his an auto attack from the soldiers. Most Tanky champs would be half health, follow up with an E to knock them into the air and get a shield, followed by auto attacks and their done. not to mention, if they aren't. because of the crazy CDR you just do it all again.
Hi SSJ re the Kalista explanation I'm at a little over 50 ranked games with her and while a hard enageg melee support can be great if people level the W first you get a substantial lvl1 lane bully. Is it possible to see what people are levelling first as vs the win rates, to see what if any this skill order WQE has. Note this is just the initial 3 points. My maxing order is still RQEW. Am only in Bronze here, but I dont think that should affect the validity of the question.
ReplyDeleteFew questions:
ReplyDelete- Kalista for my point of view is a kind of new Vayne, the range is not the best but feeded a bit and master well you can easily make a triple kill.
- Fiora still god tier? even after the buff of the other patch?
- Malphite top is good but why not Nasus? Malphite is not easy champ in the begining for farming (there are champ top lane that farm much better)
- Rengar Jungler tier 3: I want to take this champion since i think is cool and plus the jungle is where he should stay (look the picture, the predator!!!)... why only Tier 3???? :)
I'm glad this tier list isn't influenced by what some pro did one game or what popular opinion dictates (yes, Twisted Fate jungle is rightfully in tier 3). I agree with almost everything most of the time. Best tier list around because it uses logic and important factors like win-rates, current ease of use, and meta/comp viability for solo-queue.
ReplyDeleteRammus God tier jungle to Tier 2? That scaled quickly.
ReplyDeletePoppy Tier 2 jg? Can I have an explanation of what makes her good in jg? I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteTaric OP
ReplyDeleteShe's not. The ONLY thing that's helped Poppy out is Gromp's buff. The other buffs, such as the wolf ward, also help her out when it comes to counter-jungling and such, but she's still absolutely terrible. Another thing that helps her out in the jungle more-so than laning is that she has more walls to proc her stun on. Getting stunned by Poppy can easily get you killed.
ReplyDeleteThat ALL being said, she's still terrible. Her clear is INSANELY slow, her mana costs are insanely high, her damage is irrelevant on creeps as opposed to champs, she has bad ganks, her mobility is bad, list goes on.
She's only good if the other jungler is absolutely retarded. Especially now that counter-jungling has REALLY been established.
I don't agree with you saying Zac doesn't do much damage. Just do the old MPen Tank build on him and he's as strong as he was back in S3. Sorcs, Liandry's, Abyssal, FH, SV, Thornmail/Zhonya's. Get Elixir of Iron for the Tenacity, unit size and MS buff for team to follow up and you win ez pz.
ReplyDeleteHe clear speed is average. I don't know where you're getting 'insanely low from'. She gets a better early game in the jungle than she does in lane and Poppy has an insane mid-to-late game once she get's Triforce and Hydra/BotRK.
ReplyDeleteHe's not. Yasuo currently has one of the worst early games of any champion. He's like Poppy where he needs a stupidly long amount of time to scale up, but unlike Poppy, he has a 10x higher skillcap which means more often than not people are going to do absolutely terribly on him.
ReplyDeleteThe winrates and such have shown just how difficult he is to play. It's a similar effect to Jax where they nerfed TINY aspects of his kit revolving around his early game, but it immediately took him out of permanent LCS / Solo Queue play and made him bottom-of-the-barrel picking.
Having the strongest late game of any champion definitely means he should have a terrible early game, but before the nerfs his early game wasn't even that bad.
LeBlanc support is much better than that xD
ReplyDeleteYou should max E first instead of Q... also you need the Q first for more mobility, and E second for better lasthiting.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Thresh should at least be tier 1 at this point. The only justification I see for you putting him in tier 2 is his win rate which doesn't mean much. He amazing engage and disengage offered in his kit while still maintaining huge damage.
ReplyDeleteI don't find Manamune necessary with Ezreal, especially if you pick up Trinity Force. I think that most of the time you'll be better off picking up an infinity edge instead.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of effort to be good at Thresh and the cooperation from your team required to do well, make Thresh T2. His kit, on the other hand, especially in a well coordinated 5v5 is outstanding when made use of properly.
ReplyDeleteIf there is more AP top, it will be. Diana can counter well Lissandra, Kennen, ... and can snowball hard like Akali.
ReplyDeleteEven against good bruisers or well-sustain mages (Swain, ChoGath), Diana can hold her own and has better ganking/roaming - now that Teleport gank is getting more popular.
Please add Katarina Toplane!
ReplyDeletesome questions and toughts:
ReplyDelete-kalista possibly tier 4?her winrate is awful and she lacks steroids, she's like throw your support and do some damage here and there,at this point sivir is much better
-is wukong mid gonna rise?he fits well in the roaming/assassination meta, can bully starting from level 1 and does well vs malzahar and other mages anti-assassin since he can bait spell with w and his ult isn't stopped by hard cc
-quinn imho is tier 2,i know her late game is bad but early she got so much pressure and outplaying potential she will often win lane even more than a caitlyin or a graves
-tresh shoud definitely still be tier 2,99% of tresh's players in low elo play him like blitzcrank camping bush and maxing grab...so sad
idk why Sion top is tier 3. It's not all that bad.
ReplyDeletetier 3= needs higher skill/knowledge than usual
ReplyDeleteRammus's Q nerf hit him too hard.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people max Q first as Thresh and that is fine. Starting Q is not a good option most of the time. E 1st, Q 2nd, W 3rd then max R > Q > W > E generally what is done these days.
ReplyDeleteToo much Akali, and mostly Katarina lately. Swain can deal with both of them easily; but Katarina can get out of line while Akali can be completely shut down (Kata's ult hurts Swain a lot, and she can shunpo your W); also, most casters don't mind getting morello if they're going against a swain; that hurts him quite a bit, moreso on ranged poke champions. I wouldn't pick him before seeing the enemy mid laner.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Swain top seems to be a complete success. He thrives against melee champions, and the "being trapped in an island" thing makes this guy's sustain very strong, and he wins all-ins against very strong 1v1 champions, incluiding Darius and Mega Gnar.
While it's true top laners ussually don't have much impact in the outcome of a game, this guy can decimate a teamfight on his own; and a fed swain can 1v3 healing most damage while his team follows and cleans up. I'm expecting to see more Swain top.
Jax is back, and he's a guy you really want top to deal with the annoying outburst of Fioras. If you can play Jax decently, you're every Fiora's nightmare. Not only you beat her trades at all stages of the game, you dramatically outscale her leaving little chance for a comeback.
Also, I'm a bit surpsised not to hear about the new champion in top; Rek'Sai. All her tools make her a superb top laner, and she can make a tunnel in bot or mid ally turrets to prevent dives and countergank; effectively giving her a very strong global pressense the enemy jungler will hate. Rek'Sai has sustain, poke, waveclear, CC, and her tunnels make very hard ganking her. Her build is up to debate still; some people like to go straight AD, some attack speed; but all agree you go tank after 1 or maybe 2 offensive items.
If you're still having problems with Katarina mid, pick up Yasuo; it can be a complete counter. E at level 1 will decimate her potions without an effort with quick trades. At level 3, you can autoattack her without minding enemy minions thanks to your wall, forcing backs and dennying minions very hard; but in Katarina's life it's nothing new to be having a hard time on the laning phase; what makes Yasuo counter her would be this trick:
When Katarina all-ins you, W to her, blocking 1-2 of her ult daggers, but your wall will end up in the opposite side of her and you; then E through her. You will end up behind your wall, if you time it up correctly you won't get hit more than once by her ult; making her level 6 null. If you get some lifesteal to negate her measly harass, you can stay full health as you chunk her and deny her all game. You can also follow her roams and protect people from her ult with your wall.
Still, a Vi in the enemy team means you still die to Katarina and she'll snowball.
Sad to see Swain at a 54% win rate. He's always been my favorite, and I don't want to see him nerfed :(
ReplyDeleteIrelia JG?
ReplyDeleteWhat about LB top AD ?... In korea is getting very popular
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I have another idea,
ReplyDeleteI, Squirrel Nutkins, the Voice of the Community, present to you my verdict.
ReplyDeleteI play thresh and max Q and then E. I like having a lower Q cooldown so I can be more of a threat with hooks. Also more Q = easier for setting up plays. I would also like to see thresh in tier 2, but with one of his counters (Janna) being god tier its a bit hard. A good thresh can counter leona, I've flayed jarvans, vi Q's and leona E's. Its very hard but with timing and practice you can do it.
ReplyDeleteSomeone actually did that in one of my games, she won lane but we lost the game lol
ReplyDeleteWith Hydra.
ReplyDeleteHe need a little nerf. imo
ReplyDeleteluckily riot doesn't pay much attention to win rate. If they did Lee Sin wouldn't have ever been nerfed.
ReplyDeleteSSJ Blue ezreal is much different from the Non blue build. His blue build(with manamune) is highly centered around his poke where as the build which does not contain manamune is more autoattack based.
ReplyDeleteshyvana Is pretty low Imo,She even got buffed,Isin't sur athleast viable?
ReplyDeleteNo karthus jungle?
ReplyDeleteI think that it involves extremely high knowledge of the champion that you're using, and is a matter of that said mastery.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, "kids, don't try this at home"
It's something that if you could pull off you'd have a high amount of confidence that you can pull it off, not something that you'd try and pick up and learn.
I've been seeing a bit more Jax jungle recently, going either juggernaut or Devourer with the Skirmishers and Trinity then going full tank. With his Pantheon like sustain I've found him to be quite effective at ganking and scaling into the late game. (But is still item reliant tbf)
ReplyDeleteIrelia jg?Opinions? I've personally own everygame I play with her, but I also got a
ReplyDeletelot of experience with the champ before taking it into the jungle,
someones else tried it out?
Yasuo is fun, and very strong. His very early game (1-3) is great; and once he gets his shiv and gets going, there's very little counterplay; as he's both a great duelist and a superb teamfighter. He's a hypercarry; and can single-handedly win a game by himself.
ReplyDeleteThat said, you probably won't want him in your champion list in ranked. To do well with Yasuo, you need to lose over and over again until you get it right; and the effort you put into playing such a mechanically complex and play-making dependant champion such as him could be honestly better put in mastering champions who offer similar or better results with much less effort. His skill floor is probably the highest in the game.
Not only that, but every other pick counters him in some way, while he doesn't counter all that many picks himself, so he needs a set strategy and learn to play each single lane from the beginning so he can survive past his level 3 until he farms shiv; his roams or ganks aren't all that strong and he gets very little from leveling his abilities, his powerspike are completely gold-dependant. He also gets countered by certain jungles, regardless of matchup; Vi or Rammus, for instance, won't let him farm.
Couple that with weak base stats, and the fact there's a huge nerf coming for him (in the form of a nerf to IE), and you get a champion that's a not only hard to master, and has a hard time getting to his strong point, but one who's about to get even weaker.
He's the very definition of "needs higher skill/knowledge than ussual". The knowledge and practice with mechanics you need to fully utilize his kit so you can farm until you get your items is not easy to obtain; and most say it isn't worth it.
If you're having fun trying him out and losing as you improve, go ahead; if you just want something that works fine after a couple games, there's many other options.
Irelia<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Liss LOL
ReplyDeleteWow, I try LB top AD.... She is insanely strong......
ReplyDeleteI think he meant her w
ReplyDeleteBut honestly she's fine where she is.
The problem with Liss top is that she's great at pushing and zoning but once she gets to tower this leaves her in an awkward place.
Unlike in the mid lane where can push then roam to top or mid and grab a kill then move back mid to push again etc etc once she hits towers in the top lane she'll find it difficult to do much else other than wait outside tower range and poke her opponent, and when left alone at a tower she is just a caster minion with her aas.
Despite her claw she's actually very prone to being ganked when she's pushed (which is very easy to do) even if she lands her q-w its very easy to predict where she is going and a smart jungler will wait at the end of her claw range and cc her there. This in turn makes her very reliant on her teammates to do all of the tower killing for her and effectively stops her from being a very reliable split pusher. Whilst this can be somewhat remedied by a Lich bane which works well with her q this leads onto another point I will make
This along with the fact she thrives against melee champs but is kinda average against ranged ones like Lulu, Kennen (which can very easily favour Kennen if he's good with his AA-q-w stun combo) and Jayce. That along with the fact that you aren't really a front liner so bringing back in the lich bane idea she either has to give up space for tank items (if we go with that idea that its Morello/Zhonya/Sorc Shoes core) then that leaves her 3 spaces in which she'll ideally want 2 tanky items and a Void Staff. If she goes full ap then you leave the team without a front liner unless the jungler steps up to that with a Sejuani/Nautilus etc.
Liss however is a great top laner and has been for a long time. Don't let any of the points I just said distract you from that. I know that some of these might be minute points but to be God Tier you kinda need to look at this sort of level
Yeah I know BB is poke centered and Normal is AA centered, but I feel like this Manamune Trinity is a mixed playstyle and I really dig it
ReplyDeleteDiana top hell yes , she is very versatile in that role and can poke out a lot of top laners if she runs flask+3 pots. Especially if she goes Rod of Ages-Zhonya.
ReplyDeleteYorick Jungle... I struggle to see him more than Tier 3 or even Tier 4. His sustain is pretty godlike and can clear very safely with the krug buff and late game doesn't take any aggro from camps. But his ganks are very subpar, add that to his very 1 dimension late game and he struggles at all stages unless he gets ahead in some way. He's like Nunu in a strange way in that he has quite good objective control but unlike Nunu is pretty lacklustre at being anything but a tank
I feel its highly viable if you feel you're team is tanky enough to last without a tank/bruiser top lane. Maxing w but then evolving q-e-w is the best strat I've found as he allows him to trade effectively in the early and mid game. If you rush hydra then you become a very potent split pusher so long as you weren't beaten hard in lane and his good mobility allows him to stay safe in the top lane. I would reccomend a Flask+3 pots start and rush a tiamat then boots then hydra. After that go full assassin and you should be fine
ReplyDeleteWhat is it that's so special about LB top. because she just seems like she's just another trinity force reliant champ who if she gets crapped on in lane goes on to do nothing. Is she the new Nida top or is it something else?
ReplyDeleteThis week with Cassiopeia ranks:
ReplyDelete5 wins - 1 defeat
11-3-11 kda.
im pretty sure that top laners do in fact impact the outcome of the game. nasus for example, when fed can also easily kill opponents. Other than that, agreed.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the idea. It's like wasting her potential.
ReplyDeleteWhy is rumble balanced now?
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the new jungle favors different types of junglers.
ReplyDeleteWow... no garen jungle move up... Also I think Ashe is god tier right now based on the current junglers, and mid nidalee is making a comeback, with top viktor being tier-1 worthy
ReplyDeleteSejuani for sure
ReplyDeleteYeah why is Blitz jung still here
ReplyDeleteWhy is rumble in tier 2 now?
ReplyDeleteSejuani completly.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone explain to me why Zed jungle is tier 2 instead tier 3? I think Fiora, Kha'Zix, Malzahar and Rengar do his role of AD assassin better than Zed.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why Garen is still in the list with 0,3% of his games as jungler... XD
ReplyDeleteWhy some people are starting to ban riven?
ReplyDeleteNo one likes to play against Riven.
ReplyDeleteIMO, AD Malzahar doesn't really count as an assassin as much. His damage is more sustained when opting for that build path. I generally prefer AP, but AD can work in some situations (this is true for top, jungle, and mid AD Malz).
ReplyDeleteTo actually address your question, Zed outpaces Fiora in getting to the backline, has greater single-target damage potential than Kha'Zix (and is more consistent as a result), is more flexible overall than Rengar, and clears better than Malzahar.
Jungle Zed has a pretty hard first few clears at the moment, but once you've got Ranger's Warrior and level 6, you're insanely powerful and have some serious playmaking potential.
Not sure. Very strong competitively at the moment, but I don't think he's OP enough to be strong in the hands of most players.
ReplyDeleteStill, probably deserving of low Tier 1. Of course, he's near the top of Tier 2 anyways, so it's not too big of a deal IMO.
Riot approved.
ReplyDeleteIt's alright. Not sleeper OP, really, but totally viable. IMO, Tier 2. Ranger's Warrior -> Trinity Force -> tank. Max W then Q then E.
She doesn't really excel at anything in particular in the jungle. I would say it's more a matter of how skilled you are as an Irelia player in general, than her being particularly good or bad in the jungle, that really determines her strength.
Karthus has a little difficulty with the new jungle, I imagine.
ReplyDeleteIt's totally viable, though it requires a bit of an understanding of the champion in general. Probably Tier 3.
Skirmisher's Devourer -> BotRK -> Berserker's Greaves -> tank would probably be pretty darn good on Jax.
ReplyDeleteHe's decent. SSJ has him listed as Tier 2, which I definitely agree with.
After seeing this, had to go do some reading online.
ReplyDeleteI mean, she has the mobility to really screw with most top-laners, and Trinity Force is a pretty awesome item on her.
AD LeBlanc has always been sort of viable. She's not really impressive in damage output, but she's tough to pin down, and that's a very strong attribute for a champion focused on sustained damage.
LeBlanc's tough to play, though. For most players, I think Ezreal top would be a better choice, because he has a more direct means of harassment, while still maintaining a bit of mobility.
I think AD LeBlanc top qualifies as Tier 3. I mean, it is good, it just requires a tremendous amount of skill with the champion, and a good understanding of League in general.
So where is my gift? I posted this early today and suddenly SSJ posted an article with AD LB :D
ReplyDeletetold you guys that she was pretty awesome
linebacker top? theres a linebacker position in legend lagoons? is this game free? or should i go back to world of minedcraft
ReplyDeletehow come u put yasuo so far low on the list? I know hes suffered some nerfs lately and isnt at the god tier level anyway, but I think hes really good, at least better than tier 3. Granted that he is a hit or miss champion.
ReplyDeleteMaxing Q makes no sense on thresh. U will never get off a second q in a standard trade or all in bot. Maxing E gives you more flays, more slows, better empowered autos. By the time ur moving into teamfights where multiple qs will be possible you will be maxing ur second spell.and good god man dont max ur w over e that just hurts our eyes. We all maxed q on thresh at first but you have to be open to getting better.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it. How does maxing q "help" u set up plays. Im sorry but you guys sound like the "blitzcrank" threshs he is talking about. USE YOUR E. The damage, displacement, and cc it provides is what sets you up as a decent thresh. If you want to "set up plays easier" try flaying the carry first then they are too alow to dodge the q follow up.
ReplyDeleteWhere would Rumble be if he happened to be played mid? I would think he would be in tier 3 but he can do pretty well against melee assassins (Akali, Talon, Diana, etc.).
ReplyDeletemaybe its the skill needed for the champ. His q is a skill shot that you need to hit for your ult.
ReplyDeleteYasuos "skillfloor is the highest in the game" ....idk man that's a bold statement. Maybe now that hes been nerfed. When he first came out it was spam for penta.
ReplyDeleteTop lane Sejuani deserves this list and here are some points http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2phol6/thoughts_about_sejuani_1_week_after_the_changes/
ReplyDeleteHow about you actually research before responding in such a way?
ReplyDeleteThese are recent builds by Pros.
Obviously some variation but E Q W E then max Q seems to be the general idea.

You forgot to add Hecarim top
ReplyDeleteI think the last hitting for supports was an issue because often your carries clear the waves too fast for you to continue to get procs on Targons/FOTM once you get to the mid/late game. The difference is definitely noticeable, as you're actually a real help in waveclear longer into games.
ReplyDeleteSure. When you get to diamond and face one say that. i ban her every fucking game. someone who knows her mechanics will fuck you guys up. gl ganking depending on what jungler you are.
ReplyDeleteTell you right now man buy sejuani. I was playing her before the patch and I can say not only her gankig ability but the fact you can potentially save your team by snipping with your is just beautiful. Plus early mid game your damage is amazing and when you hit late game depending on your build you can tank a massive ton of damage and walk away alive.
ReplyDeleteHey, awesome tier lists thanks for doing em !
ReplyDeleteI was wondering why you didn't add Lissandra top to this list ? She seems to be pretty strong at the moment with good bully potential, initiation and late game presence with at least her ult countering assassins like akali and katarina.
SSJ has Liss in T1 for top lane.
ReplyDeleteDamn I'm blind >< thanks
ReplyDeleteNo problem! Ctrl+F or the search function can make parsing through all the names easier.
ReplyDeletethats why i build talisman for thresh my main sup because in solo que its hard to comunicate with your adc additionaly its gives you good trading, sustain and mobility the only difference to fotm is late game but at lower stages of the game if you want to doominate with your hooks you better get talis.
ReplyDeleteYasuo is trash right now.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you get ranger's over stalker's? It basically gives you BotRK active....
ReplyDeleteJARVAN! Higher winrate, lower skill cap, much more versatile. Sej may be nerfed soon.
ReplyDeleteI always buy Ranger's Devourer, Trinity (Boots: Mobis if ahead, Tabi if losing) , If I am extremely ahead Zephyr ( I know it sounds awkward, but it's worth trying for), then tank
ReplyDeleteSaid no one ever.
ReplyDeleteJarvan is so fun to play.
ReplyDeleteHe's also easy to pick up.
Recommend 10/10
just because he didnt pick your favorite champion doesn't mean it is wrong.
ReplyDeletewtf are you on about? none of these champs are my favourite.
ReplyDeleteokay bro calm down
ReplyDeleteI'm calm i just don't even and its raised to a level of "can't"
ReplyDeleteWhen you quote someone with quotation marks, you gotta use word by word whatever they wrote, by the way. "His skill floor is probably the highest in the game"; I believe it's what it says. A single word can make a difference.
ReplyDeleteI believe that statement to be true, regardless.Yasuo is probably the champion who welcomes beginners the least. Skill floor means the minimum amount of skill/practice necessary to do well on him. Let's put an example:
Lee Sin, other champion infamous for not being newbie-friendly - which by the way, doesn't mean you're just new to League of Leyends, but have just picked him up - still offers some benefits to newcomers; as missing his Qs and not ussing his combos all that well doesn't necessarily mean you won't outduel the hell out of anyone invading the jungle; and the ward-hop > slow combo is not that hard to pull off and will lead to successful ganks regardless. He can also build full tank and forgive player mistakes by simply having a lot of mobility and being hard to kill. You can do well on him without having to pull crazy plays; and all while being a strong top laner who will decimate most champions early in an all-in.
What does it mean Yasuo has a very high skill floor, probably one of the highest the game offers? It means whenever you find a bronze-gold Yasuo, and most will agree with me on this one, he will either feed relentlessly or perform great, and hardly you will find a point in between; meaning that either the player either doesn't have the practice/skill to use him yet (or had a bad game, we all have those) - which doesn't necessarily mean he's a bad at League of Leyends -, or has finally reached the skill floor and can do consistently do well on him; but since the skill floor is so high; his time put into learning the champion already shows.
The thing with Yasuo is that he's countered by every other laner. Let's list a few HARD counters, people who'll shut him down good: Renekton, Darius, Riven, Akali, Annie, Azir, Fiora, Garen, Irelia, Jax, Malphite, Yi, Pantheon, Rammus, Vi and Swain. Those are guys you're just having a huge disadvantage against, and will have to plain outplay to not feed.
Now let's list plain counters, people who have the advantage and do very well against Yasuo and you probably would pick in Ranked to face him: Aatrox, Alistar, Cho'Gath, Diana, Zed, Galio, Heimerdinger, Vayne, Malzahar, Nasus, Rengar, Rek'Sai, Rumble, Sion, Shyvanna, Syndra, Ryze, Talon, Trundle, Tryndamere, Udyr, Vayne, Vladimir, Wukong, Yorick and arguably Zed.
The problem? When playing a champion you need to learn how to play against your counters. For Yasuo, it means having to learn how to play againt well over half the champion lists of what you'll find mid or top. That's hard to learn, takes time, and that's a barrier making his skill floor sky high. You can't allow an E to place you in a bad spot, you can't miss a Q, you can't farm poorly, you can't use your W poorly, you can't go in at the wrong time in your ult, you have very a small leeway for error when facing counters, but as Yasuo that's all you do; thus your mechanics must be very polished to perform well in lane.
If you don't, you'll feed the enemy laner, and that will probably cost you the game. To learn Yasuo, you need to constantly outplay your opponent or be better at Yasuo that they're at the champion they're using.
On a side note, sure; if you face an easy match-up and get a few kills; you will easily get to a point in which you can 1v3 lifesteal tanking just by right clickling. But don't do that on streaming, or he'll get nerfed. Also, CC and you die, gotta windwall well.
i agree with your insights on the fiora matter. No cc=easily countered. Once a fiora falls behind, there's no coming back.
ReplyDeleteoh you just don't even,
ReplyDeleteokay bro
exactly
ReplyDeleteThere are answers to all of these don't you worry
ReplyDelete1. Solo Q as we all know is a little less organised than ranked 5s (read as ridiculously less), as such the ability to be able to carry oneself becomes a bit more important than being utility based tank like say nautilus. As such Fighters/Bruisers are more important than tanks due to their ability to go either way as either lethal assassins or be beefy front liners and still being able to output some good damage.
Take Warwick for example, now Tank Warwick has been a things for ages, run Sotag into pretty much full tank bar botrk and you could output good damage whilst being extremely bulky, but once feral flare hit the scene Warwick could build more damage but still stay as tanky and as such became more useful to his team and so the bruiser/feral flare warwick became more powerful/popular (as noted by his increasing win rate). At the end of the day most people in the range that this tier list is aimed for have little idea how to follow up on a tanks initiation unless its blindingly obvious and so picking a tank with little damage but good utility can often lead to it being a 4v5 as none of your team know what to do when you engage with Nautilus.
2. Fiora's power comes from the fact that laning wise its hard to truly counter her in the Bronze-Gold (and plat in some cases) if the fiora knows what she's doing, Darius who is considered to be her worst matchup can be easily dealt with if she starts rejuvi beads and plays passive for the laning phase and then when she hits hydra she just outsustains and out damages him. Even if she loses laning phase so long as she gets to tiamat she's a really good splitpusher and will just keep a lane pushed all game long, unlike someone like Wukong who does have some really hard counters unless your Wukong Only in lane and then back to point one if your team don't know how to follow up on your ult then your dead, Fiora just has to wait for an engage whereas Wukong is the one who engages/counter engages. As such she can just end up going tryndamere on you and just splitpush all game then join in the fight and annoy everyone with her ult/very good damage
3. Rek Sai will be higher but due to the fact she was only just released we still don't know a lot about her so don't take her current position as final, wait about 2-3 weeks then we'll know a but more about her
Silence OP, Cho Gath reigns supreme
ReplyDeleteyeah.. but there is also no coming back if fiora is ahead of you.. and it's easy to win lane with her against most matchups.. thats why shes so high.. also this is a solo que tierlist.. you can't really argue that a coordinated team with cc can stop her.. yeah like that is going to happen in solo que
ReplyDelete1) Because this is a tier list that is focused in SOLO QUEUE Bronze-Gold.
ReplyDelete2 )Because this is a tier list that is focused in SOLO QUEUE Bronze-Gold.
3) Because this is a tier list that is focused in SOLO QUEUE Bronze-Gold.
I think she should be god tier.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's true. She was viable in previous patches. Now she has a lot of DPS instead of burst. (What didn't in Sejuani tank).
ReplyDeleteAbout Sejuani top, she is very viable. With RoA... But I think should be tier 2.
It's very funny. Riven is my favorite champ to have against in top. Especially when I'm Elise, Fiora or Lissandra.
ReplyDeleteSSJ, if you aren't already, I'd recommend using this site: http://champion.gg
ReplyDeleteIt shows champion winrates not just over all but for each role, say for example, you could pull up the winrates for kennen mid. It is for plat+ but I'd imagine there isn't too much variability.
I don't have anything against Teemo. In fact, I like Teemo. But, why he is still in tier 1? I think others champions do the same work and some do better and are well below. (Viktor, Quinn, Karma or Morgana). And for example Morgana or Viktor have teamfight potential. Quinn has splitpush... But Teemo... He has nothing of this in late game and his potential as 'bully' isn't stronger than these champions.
ReplyDeleteStalker's could also be very good reason.
ReplyDeleteThe main incentive towards Ranger's is how difficult of a time he has clearing early on. I'm fairly used to playing Zed without that slow anyways (I haven't been buying BotRK on Zed since its nerfs a few months ago, instead opting for a Ravenous Hydra, generally), so it's more of a playstyle thing on my end. If you want to farm more, go Ranger's, and if you want to gank more (including potentially pre-6 ganks) go with either Stalker's or Skirmisher's.
I play a bit of Zed jungle here and there, so I'll give my general build:
Ranger's -> Warrior -> Ravenous Hydra -> Ionian Boots of Lucidity (someitmes Mercury Treads) -> Brutalizer -> Last Whisper -> Youmuu's Ghostblade (if I really need more armor penetration, I'll opt for a Black Cleaver here instead) -> Guardian Angel (sometimes Banshee's Veil or Mercurial Scimitar, depending on how much I trust myself to remember to use the active on MS, or if I could stand to benefit more from Banshee's HP than MS's AD). When playing Zed top/mid, I'll usually get both a Black Cleaver and a Youmuu's, instead of the jungle item.
I don't really find BotRK active or Stalker's to be all that mandatory on Zed. It can be useful, but you should strive to execute your combo (in general: R, autoattack, W, Ravenous Hydra [timed properly, you can cancel your autoattack animation with your W, while simultaneously using your Ravenous Hydra], R, E, Q) quickly enough so that the active is relatively unnecessary. Before the changes to BotRK, the active gave a pretty solid damage boost, but now I don't really find it necessary.
i agree with everything you have just said. Just a reminder though that this tier list is for bronze-gold therefor noobs are present and thats why fiora is in a high spot. I agree though she is quite bad as a champ
ReplyDelete1)why did i have to use a 0damage tank when i can pick amumu and carry the game being tanky at the same time
ReplyDelete2)fiora is op vs noobs
3)rek sai chasing power in worse than garen, her damage is ridicolous but after you finish a trinity and/or a frozen mallet everyone can escape from you
i saw fed teemo oneshotting tanks,he's not completely useless late game, just think a teemo who knows where to perfectly place his shrooms and go with your team doing baron..pentakill
ReplyDeleteat least rito menaged to balance cassiopeia, now pls balance the poor urgot, the only champion in the game with 1% win rate
ReplyDeleteI said that..
ReplyDeleteThat site is great, but it uses data from platinum to challenger and this tier list is for bronze to gold
ReplyDeleteRead my whole post please
ReplyDeleteHow is Malzahar a high tier mid? Syndra is better in pretty much every way. Malzahar can 1v1 anyone, but that's not what the game comes down to. In teamfights, Malazhar is usually dove and killed within the first few seconds.
ReplyDeleteMalz is tankier, arguably more damage, has only one skillshot, easier to play, lots of AoE, and tons of DPS. They aren't similar to each other so you can't really syndra is just a better Malz.
ReplyDeleteMap control!!!
ReplyDeleteTeemo has the best/safest splitpush Can duel/ahniliate tanks. and has the best teamfight potential in the game! the fact that he can lower a opponents health before a fight if you fight in places where they must walk through shrooms already lowering them is insane, he also has amazing objective/vision control with shrooms.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, his early isn't too bad if you get sheen before tear. Charging tear as ezreal doesn't take too long anyway, and you won't get punished for your lack of damage as if you would've gotten tear.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion Jarvan is easier to carry with and is better for solo Q, but if your team is somewhat coordinated, Sejuani is much more fun and she feels more rewarding.
ReplyDeletePlease add AD malzahar top. If he gets fed he can win games so quickly with his immense pushing power. Also if he has two voidlings and his ult up he basically has a guaranteed kill. I'd say he is tier 3 at least.
ReplyDeleteMalzahar's laning is insanely strong, absolutely no one can fight him 1v1, he has insane single target damage and very good teamfight damage, and he pushes extremely hard. He's much easier to play than Syndra as well.
ReplyDeleteThere are significant enough differences in winrates to warrant actually using Bronze - Gold statistics instead of only Plat and up.
ReplyDeleteHow about you go AP and mid lane?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't the popularity of AP tops be in Mundo's favor since he could rush Visage?
ReplyDeleteCompletly agree, AD Malzahar has more damage than AP Malzahar. He is very op, but need a lot of skill and knowledge.
ReplyDeletewhy is kha'zix 3rd tier? ive been playing him a decent amount and i seem to do really well on him? any comments
ReplyDeleteBest/safest splitpush???? When Quinn hears this will to mourn. Control objetive, Kalista top do the same and she is not even on the list. Or Quinn... About he can lower a opponet's health before a teamfight.... But almost ap champ can... In fact, Urgot can too.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against Teemo... But he is other stomper more... Like Quinn, like Vayne, like Leblanc AD, etc. He offers many things that other champions of its kind too. Mid or bottom of tier 2. IMO.
Ashe AP can doing easy pentakill when enemy team is doing Baron too.
ReplyDeleteBut oneshotting tanks, it's true the power of liandry. But liandry is op, not Teemo. Although it is true, is very frustrating to play against him being a tank.
Wow, thanks... I always getting the winrate from winrate of smite/exaust/teleport or items. Thanks you very much.
ReplyDeleteShould I get Kennen or Jayce?
ReplyDeleteJayce.
ReplyDeleteHe's fun to play and is strong.
Kennen however isn't very strong and in my opinion is kinda boring.
Kennen is better at teamfighting, while Jayce is better at skirmishing/pushing/dueling.
ReplyDeletePretty different playstyles. Pick one based on what you're already lacking in champions.
Okay, thanks.
ReplyDeletemalzahar has a 3 second aoe silence nuke. imagine not being able to retaliate as a mage for 3 seconds
ReplyDeleteJayce
ReplyDeleteJayce is being gutted next patch.
ReplyDeleteJayce is being gutted next patch.
ReplyDelete46% winrate.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.lolking.net/champions/khazix#statistics
Who are the best late-game mages?
ReplyDeleteAnnie is an absolute monster IMO. Cassio is also pretty good right now.
ReplyDeleteNot in lane, mana cost OP, gonna die before level 3.
ReplyDeleteLeblanc... (?)
ReplyDeleteIMO Cassio, Swain, Anivia, Katarina, Zyra, Fidd, Viktor, Kog'Maw, Galio and Syndra or Orianna.
I feel like Yasuo should be moved up to tier 2 or at least the top of tier 3 because his buffs helped his early game and his late game is as strong as ever.
ReplyDeleteHow are you building her, given whatever circumstances? I've played her 3 times, and done well each time but lost each game. I kind of just build her tank, maybe a Liandry's if I'm getting kills early.
ReplyDeleteBut would like to know how you're building because of your success.
tier 1 only because of objective control with mushrooms
ReplyDeletemusthrooms which do a ton of health with just 1, that give vision temporarily, that can be placed anywhere without the enemy knowing.
also his blind
Veigar also. Late game Veigar with 1000+ AP can one shot any other champion, even tanks.
ReplyDeleteshift al mani
ReplyDeleteCorrection: Add Xerath. It does take skill to land his stun(Okay, it's pretty hard) but once you do, you will be rewarded handsomely.
ReplyDeleteDarius: Tier 1. He requires almost no knowledge of LoL in order to play. Spam Q, pull, basic attack, DUNK. Easier than Yi, who you need to decide wether to chase that really low sons there OR run away from that Vi coming near you. As Darius, if there are two people, you just dunk both of them. Simple.
ReplyDeleteI do well as Kha' Zix top, but not jungle.
ReplyDeleteLeblanc falls off late
ReplyDeleteWhat has happened to ziggs? Havent noticed any hard nerfs. why is he listed so low?
ReplyDeleteIt's comparatively high; that's my point. I'm not sure what yours is. As for Swain OP? I'll say one word: Morellonomicon. It MURDERS his late game potential.
ReplyDeleteeveryone with aoe damage(katarina, orianna, annie) or constant damage(cassiopeia, swain)
ReplyDeletele blanc's late game is bad since after she kill someone she's useless
mages in general are at their strongest mid game where cooldowns aren't too punishing
lategame veigar kill someone with ult and then he's useless
ReplyDeleteWhy is Wukong even in tier 1 jungle still?
ReplyDeleteannie is pretty good lategame thanks to her aoe damage, also cassiopeia is pretty strong with her +1000 ap and constant damage
ReplyDeletedarius is tier 2 and any ranged counter him
ReplyDeletetoo many nerf
ReplyDeletebetter nerf kha zix
mundo is one of those champs who is better only after a 30/40 minute mark, most of the games tend to finish around 20/30 minutes where he's still not immortal
ReplyDelete3 seconds aoe silence, aoe %hp damage and ranged version of ww's ult while syndra is 99% single target, not thanks
ReplyDeleteimho he should be tier 2 in jungle,he loses a ton of heath now and his ganks doesn't worth the tradeoff
ReplyDeletealso wukong mid should be higher,if kata and akali are god tier why he isn't higher?
everyone outtrade him if he gets any closer, even for one second
ReplyDeleteassassins burst him even before he can E away
his escape spells/CCs aren't solid
his damage isn't impressive since he can only poke you till death
Everything else is getting buffed around him.
ReplyDeletequinn isn't so much safe as a splitpusher,ms won't save you from assassins/cc
ReplyDeletehis objective control is godlike, someone going to check baron gets hp halved without retaliation and i really don't know how can you conpare his objective control to kalista's
where can i get the best builds for champions?
ReplyDeletemobafire?solomid?lolking?
i usually don't follow builds but sometimes i need them so i would be glad if you can say me a good build's site
probuilds.net ir pretty nice
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for talons silence to get an comeback...
ReplyDeletewhat happend to thresh? why is he tier 2?
ReplyDeleteI often use lolking because I find their item build set very useful and they differentiate between different roles which is good when looking for specific builds but a lot of the 'must read' guides are often found on solomid
ReplyDelete
