Mostly a Linux problem: the League client can't pull down its updates.
What to try first
Run the Riot Client Repair Tool. If that fails, delete RiotClientServices.old and ucrtbase.dll and try again.
Is it you or Riot? If lots of players are hitting this at once, it's probably the servers. Check League server status before you start reinstalling things.
What Riot says
This is the only row in Riot's League error table that names an operating system. It says the error mostly affects Linux users and keeps the League client from receiving updates. The wording sounds like Riot's servers, so glance at League server status in case there really is maintenance going on.
Riot's fix has two parts. The repair tool comes first, and Riot rates it the most likely to work. If it doesn't, delete two files, RiotClientServices.old and ucrtbase.dll, and try the update again. The table doesn't say which folder they're in, and it doesn't name a Linux setup either.
The bigger catch on Linux
The table was last updated in May 2025. Riot's newer Vanguard articles, which cover League too, ask for your game and Vanguard to run on a regular Windows installation, and say Vanguard isn't supported in virtual machines or other virtualized environments (see VAN 138 and VAN 9100). If the update goes through and a VAN code follows, read those two pages before spending more time on the client.
