FOTM Report: Marksman Neeko

Neeko the Marksman?

Ever since our last Press the Attack Neeko post back in December 2018, she's started gaining some steam after popular streamers started picking her up as a marksman. The build's been refined, and most players are avoiding skilling Q altogether. Meanwhile, the rest of the build remains largely the same. In this guide we'll be focusing more on how she performs as a bot laner and condensing a few of her strengths into one bullet.

Check out the updates below and be sure to check out the December post to see how this build has evolved since then!

The build's been refined, and most players are avoiding skilling Q altogether. Meanwhile, the rest of the build remains largely the same. In this guide we'll be focusing more on how she performs as a bot laner and condensing a few of her strengths into one bullet.

How to Play
Abilities: W, E, W then prioritize R > W > E > Q
Summoner Spells: Flash + Heal
Starting Items: Doran Blade + Health Potion
Core Items: Blade of the Ruined King, Guinsoo's Rageblade, Berserker's Graves, Frozen Mallet, Runaan's Hurricane, Mercurial Scimitar

Rune Setup

How It Works

Shapersplitter [W]
This skill deals additional passive damage every third attack and provides a burst of movement speed. This spell by itself makes Neeko viable as an attack speed marksman. When you add in the active, she essentially plays like a Kai'Sa or Vayne with brief burst of invisibility and massive attack speed.

High Crowd-Control Stacking
When you play Neeko into bot lane, she generally has another champion that provides a form of crowd-control. This allows Neeko to stack her own on top of her supports, resulting in powerful level two and level six all-in fights, something that's highly contested bot lane.

Excellent Push Power
Neeko's high range and good spell damage allows her to push lanes much faster than most marksmen counterparts. Her 550 range also allows her to be an effective long-ranged pusher, and unlike most, is able to escape via her invisibility and crowd-control. This means that she can continuously harass at turret without worrying too much about junglers.

Potential Pitfalls

Lower Levels
As a spellcaster, Neeko naturally gains a lot of power simply from scaling through levels. However, when she's bot lane she shares her XP, resulting in a slightly weaker version of Neeko than you'd expect if you found her top lane.

Difficult Stackign
Although she deals an excellent amount of AD damage, a large chunk of her damage does come from her magic damage. As a result, she may do poorly against fed tanks since it's difficult for her itemize penetration items to deal with tanks that have already stacked their resists. Nevertheless, if she's the one snowballing it's also difficult for enemies to itemize resists against her, a double-edged sword.

Conclusions

Marksman Neeko is certainly strong, but it's tough to say she's definitely better as a marksman than a top laner. If you find your team already has a marksman, feel free to try her top using the same build with Teleport instead of Heal. You might find that you like one more than the other!

Suggested Tier: Tier 1
