Weird Picks #111: Press the Attack Neeko

Early last week I ran into this interesting build in a normal game that oddly enough seems very effective. It takes advantage of Neeko's bonus damage and ends up dealing a hefty chunk while simultaneously being extremely elusive.

I thought it was just a silly thing at first, but turns out this guy's been doing pretty good with it...check out how to play below!

Preseason Builds

Early last week I ran into this interesting build in a normal game that oddly enough seems very effective. It takes advantage of Neeko's bonus damage and ends up dealing a hefty chunk while simultaneously being extremely elusive.

I thought it was just a silly thing at first, but turns out this guy's been doing pretty good with it...check out how to play below!

How to Play
Abilities: W, E, Q then prioritize R > W > E > Q
Summoner Spells: Flash + Teleport
Starting Items: Doran Blade + Health Potion
Core Items: Blade of the Ruined King, Guinsoo's Rageblade, Ninja Tabi, Rapid Firecannon, Frozen Mallet, Guardian Angel

Rune Setup

How It Works

Shapersplitter Passive Stacks
Shapesplitter's passive third attack deals between 50 to 170 bonus magic damage and gives her a burst of movement speed. As anyone who's had the displeasure of laning against Viktor knows, a burst of speed on a ranged champion top lane spells disaster for any melee. Meanwhile, the base bonus damage is enough to cheese champions with ease.

Massive Built-In Crowd Control
For a ranged top laner, Neeko packs an absurd amount of crowd control in the form of her Pop Blossom [R] and Tangle-Barbs [E]. Both are not difficult to land at all, especially when you combine them with her max speed Shapesplitter [W] that you get with this build.

Powerful Trades
Neeko's trades are extremely potent, and by rushing Blade of the Ruined King, she deals a ton of mixed damage that's very hard to defend against. Her invisibility also lets her get a few hits off for free, quickly stacking her Rageblade and burst damage.

High Attack Range
Sitting at 550, Neeko outranges popular champions like Kai'Sa, Xayah, and Lucian. This means that she can't be kited at range, and will generally be able to hit back nearly anybody hitting her.

Potential Pitfalls

No Sustain Until Vamp Scepter
Neeko has no built-in sustain other than a small amount via Doran Blade. Because of this, she can fall behind quickly if she ends up taking too many hits early on. While her range can keep her healthy, it does take some higher lane mechanics to play effectively.

Squishy Late Game
Although you can build Frozen Mallet and Guardian Angel to be more tanky, Neeko will generally feel fairly squishy from the early to mid-game. Although you can out-trade most champions with your auto-attacks, be careful if enemies manage to actually close the gap. Save your crowd-control for when they jump and you can kite them forwards and backwards.

Conclusions

Press the attack Neeko top plays very similar to a Teemo but with more of an assassin feel, 50 extra range, and more burst damage. She's fairly strong right now and I'm suprised more players aren't trying her out in this style.

Suggested Tier: Tier 2
