2015 Champion Tier List - Ranked 3s Twisted Treeline - Patch 5.2 Update

SEASON 5 - December - PATCH 5.2 RANKED 3'S TIER LIST
THE TWISTED TREELINE

Introduction
A long awaited for update on the Twisted Treeline for you TT aficionados...

While I'm by no means a guru on the Twisted Treeline I do enjoy playing the game mode quite a bit and hope that they'll move the solo queue 3v3 over from the PBE servers to the live servers some day.

That being said, take this tier list with a grain of salt and feel free to engage in open debate in the comment section with your own thoughts and comments. As the game mode isn't all that popular right now, hopefully this list will help spur some of you to try it out!

Current List Updates
Since the latest patch, Ahri currently reigns supreme as she does on Summoners Rift. However, as this will likely be a short lived reign fraught with nerfs, I'll update this list intermittently. No promises on patch-by-patch updates unless a large number of you really want one though...the meta game evolves fairly slowly on Twisted Treeline, so slight tweaks seem to work better.

Feel free to voice your opinion on that in the comments section.

Current Metagame
Right now there are two main methods of playing Twisted Treeline:
  1. Duo top with a support like Leona or Annie
  2. Two solo lanes with a jungler
For the most part it seems like the NA region prefers the jungler meta, whereas the EU region prefers the support meta. I can't say for sure which one is better, but personally I think the support meta gives a much safer early game, which allows you to potentially snowball off of.

Based off of this, I'm splitting this tier list into "roles" similar to the solo queue 5s list. However, as there are only 3 positions open, I won't be including every champion into this list. If you feel that I've missed out on a strong champion, please let me know and I'll include it in the next update.

    AD/AP Positioning
Due to the way the map is arranged, bot lane is generally considered the "safer" lane, so the solo laner almost always goes here. However, as this game mode is somewhat uncommon, you may see teams send two champions to bot lane. As a result, it's generally best to send an AP bot with long range waveclear, as these champions can deal with both 1v1 and 1v2 lanes.

This means that for the most part, the AD based champion will go top. However, swapping these around isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a good idea to make sure that you have a mix of damage types so that the enemy team can't easily itemize against you.

    Champion Explanations
    • Ahri [AP God] - Ahri's new changes coupled with the removal of Blackfire Torch have made her extremely powerful on Twisted Treeline. Her sustained burst damage is extremely high right now, and her increased mobility helps her dive in and out of fights easily.
    • Azir [AP God] - Azir's works exceedingly well on the Twisted Treeline due to the small skirmish areas, allowing him to use both his soldiers and his ultimate to its fullest potential. His damage output is also very high in 1v1 and 1v2 situations, allowing him to dish out a ton of damage.
    • Cassiopeia [Tier 1 AP] - Cassiopeia's buff is giving her new life on Twisted Treeline as well. Although her late game doesn't quite reach the potential it does on Summoner's Rift, her potential early game cheese is back and still very potent as a snowball technique. The removal of Blackfire Torch also makes her more powerful as a sustain caster without strong burst champions on the rift.
    • Graves [Tier 1 ADC] - I still don't believe that the AD carry meta works quite as well as the AP bot meta, but Graves works exceedingly well right now simply because he is one of the strongest ADCs in the game at the moment. His strong cone shaped AOE is also potent on Twisted Treeline as a result of the way the walls are arranged.
    • Kalista [Tier 1 ADC] - Kalista is very good on Twisted Treeline, and may in fact be better than Graves with high coordination. She procs Leona's spells very well with her attack speed stacking build, and also has the ability to deny death via her ultimate.
    • Leona [Support God] - Currently, Leona is almost certainly the best support on Twisted Treeline right now simply because of her insane defensive scaling combined with maximum usage of her passive/CC is simply far and ahead better than even the runner up, Braum.
    • Lissandra [AP God] - No surprises here, Lissandra's extremely powerful in small skirmishes, and her gap closer/escape can be used to high effect over the TT walls.
    • Rek'Sai [Jungle God/Top] - Rek'sai is still a beast in the jungle/top, even after her nerfs.
    • Syndra [Tier 2 AP] - Post nerfs she's still playable, but very much weaker, especially after the removal of blackfire torch.
    • Zed [Top God] - With the removal of Blackfire Torch, Zed has largely been the replacement burst caster for people running against AD or squishy AP compositions, which for the large part is the meta. Contrary to Summoner's Rift, Zed has more room for error here since there are less enemies to CC lock and burst him down.

Good 3v3 list!! I have been talking with some friends about starting a ranked team for this. This is the icing on the cake though!

    2. Have you ever play tt :v
Yasuo is god tier because of villemaw, small map and vision, no changed build and we all know the item in TT is the nerf of SR :v
Only one that be able to reach 700 AP would be veigar
Ahri, good Hank without a ton of minions :v
Ziggs, small room, can't miss, not worrying about minions wave, jump though almost every fucking wall :v
Any champs that hard to gap close or deal AoE damage are good, hard to land skill shot are good to go, and yasuo, he need some sort of new tier to described 'coz if enemies have yasuo then rmk :v
Unless you know that yasuo then you will have a small chance :v

Whoops, I actually meant to move Yasuo up after his last buff, but didn't.

Generally they go bot with a support.

I'm in EUW and when i play 3v3 (twisted treeline) i allways see jungler+top+bot or, if i play with broze friends and the matchmaking put me with silver/bronzes i see 1 top + duo bot (not sup)
Never seen duo top + 1 bot.
But well, i ocasionaly play 3v3.

The diamond team I play with usually goes ad + support top, they had a reason for it but I forget what it is. I always run a jungler when I play.

I've seen duo bot as well, but it's a little less common. People might gravitate towards bot for ad + support because that's the way summoner's rift is? I'm not sure.

Well, 5v5 map isnt symetric and ad+suport goes bot to get easy dragon controll if jungler comes, does a good gank that forces a back (or kill).

I imagine that in 3v3 the reason will be the same, the spider is in the top lane.

Um, How is nidalee strong in the jungle? I mean, I love the champ, so don't get me wrong. Just curious as both her AD and AP early jungling is pretty sub-par.

She recently got a sizable buff on her damage on neutral monsters, so she jungles well now.

Spider is more of a baron than a dragon, being bot lane gives you easier access to ganking the enemy jungler, which is fairly crucial to succeed in a 2v1 lane.

Heey, you forgot Kennen! He's very good against all ins. I always take him against Yasuo, for example.

Ahh you are awesome! I'm a big fan of 3v3 and I'm glad it's getting some attention :)

Also, with regards to the debate on why we send the duo lane top, I believe the reason is two-fold. Sending the duo top leaves the solo laner in the safe lane, but it also enables an easier invade of the enemy jungle. A top lane that's pushed up to the turret gives easy access to the enemy jungle, allowing the duo lane to harass the enemy jungler. This is crucial for the success of a duo lane, as they have to deny as much xp as possible to keep up in lvls.

How about Nautilus? I've been giving him some love as a solo bot-laner, and building him pure tank. His shield + base stats are nice and help a lot in the lane phase, while his massive CC is a big turn on the fights.

    17. Miguel MuscatFebruary 16, 2015

Yea, I know she jungles well. Procing the passive on jungle camps is a major buff for her. but I still find it hard to see how she can hold her own when compared to other junglers such as Jarvan and Rek'sai.

      ReplyDelete
    18. How is bot lane "safer"? If the enemy is pushed past the midway point, the ganking champion can gank bot lane without entering the enemy jungle. Wheras to gank top without entering the enemy jungle, the ganking champion must wait until the lane is completely pushed. Also, the top laner has the option of using the vilemaw tunnel as a forward retreat in roughly the same way bot lane can use the middle section of the map.

    19. I like Diana jungle in 3s. She has a solid and strong kit for it imo. I main Diana in 3s

Don't you think that Zyra is a very nice pick? In 5v5 her plants aren't that strong since they can only attack one enemy/5 enemies. But in TT there only are 3 enemies so it's an amazing pick. Also she can go on a solo lane and push safely since she has insane wards with her seeds (W). Additionally at level 6 if she gets ganked she always is able to kill at least one of the guys, and both if them if she can land her passive or if she has her Zhonya up. Her CC is always appreciated, her range is huge, she's got easy to land skillshots and AOE CC abilities.

    21. Xerath should be either God tier AP or Tier 1, never lost to a velkoz with him. and won so many games with him! as a teammate and playing him myself

I've found an uncommon, yet surprisingly great combo in 3v3. Akali bot, Yorick top. The small size, skirmish nature, and bruiser heavy comps are great for Akali to rush in and deal #TonsofDamage, potentially killing quickly. The issue is how weak she is to ganking early, leaving her in most games anti-snowballed. Yorick is push, Yorick is pressure, Yorick is farm game. At least in the NA jungler meta, he works amazingly well with Akali, in that he forces a lot of enemy jungler pressure top, leaving Akali more free to farm and 1v1. In addition, in bigger 3v3 fights, Yorick ulti on Akali makes people cry. Add in a jungler with decent enough CC and engage (hello JIV), and the team comp destroys people.

    23. I would consider tagging Olaf on the back of God Tier or at least the very front of Tier One Top Lane.
He has insane burst and good sustain. If you can land axes, you can snare yourself an easy lvl 2 kill. Then later in the laning phase his Passive/W allow him to bait exchanges and then explode on targets, either forcing a back or outright killing them.
He also has many build paths: If you get ahead you can build some damage items and you will have the potential to 1v2 or even 1v3 with some things going your way. If you/your team are behind he can be built more tanky and still deal relevant damage.
On this map, hard CC can make or break skirmishes/teamfights, and Olaf can be immune to them for long enough to burn down 1 or 2 targets.
The best summoner combo for him in TT IMO is Ghost and Flash.
      He crushes Vilemaw too.

    27. You should Ad Urgot as AD Ranged in Tier 2. With the patched Black Cleaver he can be one hell of a stalker. He's like AD Cassiopeia. And his Ult can stunlock the main DMG source of the enemy team while bringing him to safety, too. Very strong and not easy to kill.

Would be great if you could update this tier list. +Cho'Gath have always been extremely strong in 3v3. His CC and true damage is just too good to be placed this low.
