SEASON 4 - PATCH 4.12 FOTM TIER LIST
"THE POPULAR KIDS"
Preface Chatter
Hi everyone, and welcome to the second rendition of the FOTM Tier List! The aim of this list is to highlight the most popular champions that are perceived as "strong" in the current meta, and give a broad understanding of which champions you'll likely be facing on the fields of justice.
While this list does not necessarily highlight champions that will give you the highest chances of winning and gaining rank, understanding what each of these champions do from the top on down will definitely assist you on your climb. (This is what the meta sheep will be following.)

Instructions and Caveats:
- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions UNDERLINED may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
- Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game..
Champion Explanations
- As this is a relatively new thing I'm trying out, no champion explanations yet. Feel free to comment in the DISQUS area as to your thoughts and I (or another visitor will likely respond in a quick manner.)
For a full analysis on champion changes this patch, check out this link!
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for hero selection.
Agree? Disagree? Comment below!
1-Well I'm not sure about Orianna but I see LeBlanc more more than I see Orianna
ReplyDelete3- I think Voli, Shen and Naut support should be Tier 2/3 there CC and tank make them so popular specially at Bronze/Silver
ReplyDeleteWhy ezreal mid (AP) is in the lowest tier? I can easy make a quadra or
ReplyDeletepenta kill with his ulti. All his skills except q, do magic damage and
so good scale with ap.
This tier list really shouldn't gain popularity, it's a sore to the community as most of what's in Tier 4 is viable. If you want to see what's popular, just go to pick rates by your division.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it fluctuates a lot from server to server. I haven't seen a LB in weeks, same goes for Darius top and most of the champions you mentioned on '5'. You're not wrong in any of the points you made, is just that we all have different experiences playing, and in my case the list is actually pretty accurate, even though i play on BR.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that it's about ranked solo-queue, not normal games where people can try new things and picks aren't as stable.
I was talking about Solo Q too, but I think NA may be diffrent from other servers as you said
ReplyDeleteI don't think people understand the purpose of this tier list.
ReplyDeleteTL;DR This tier list shows what champions are being picked the most at the current patch, and fit in with the meta.
This is a popularity tier list >_>
ReplyDeletePopularity, hence FOTM, or Flavor of the Month.
ReplyDeleteIt's a popularity list that takes elements from play rate, ban rate, and overall champion perception from others generally based off of professional LCS play rate.
ReplyDeleteThat's because the list is for champions that are currently popular, no who's viable and who isn't. Please read the introduction before commenting, okay? ^_^
ReplyDeleteMaybe calling it a "tier list" isn't quite accurate, but I find that going by simple popularity rate doesn't do it justice. For instance, ban rates also play a big part in swinging popularity one way or another, and champions that fit multiple roles aren't captured in data sets. I will consider renaming it to something more fitting.
ReplyDeleteEither way, this is meant to appease the people who would prefer going with the crowd. As you might have noticed, I get far fewer angry comments on champion placement on this thread.
What I love out of the list is Poppy jungle. Analyzed as tier-4 on the "popularity" list, and tier 3 on the "solo queue" tier list. Yet it is actually a hidden monster. Look at the win-rates on BORK, Tri-force, elder lizard, and feral flare. She is a godly jungler and has the same mechanics at jungle alistar.
ReplyDeleteulti them so you can chase under turret and than just e them out, and watch them get blown up.
But the difference is, is outside of that her Q with those items does immense amounts of damage, and can straight up 2 shot people with " Q then E into a wall. Plus! with the Bork that helps one of her problems being she can be kited!. but w+ bork active helps so much for the case of chasing.
Poppy has a 1.2% play rate, 34.9% of which is jungle. She builds trinity force 70% of the time, which equates to a total of 0.29% of all games played. At a 58% win rate on trinity force, this means that trinity force poppy is responsible for a victory rate of 0.17% of all games, provided that the trinity force building is split evenly amongst all poppys.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, spirit of the elder lizard poppy is responsible for 0.07% of all victories through the same math.
You may be correct on the strength of the champion and/or role, but statistics are hardly any cause for cheering in this case.
I haven't seen those supports in months, there are too many legit supports that counter them EXTREMELY HARD: Thresh, Leona, Blitz, Nami, Morg, and Zyra.
ReplyDelete1. After the removal of the silence, no one plays/ban her.
ReplyDelete2. Completely Agree, Darius is played 1/2 the time in my games.
3. I already explained it to the Guest of which could be yourself.
4. Agree
5. HELL NO, Akali, Lulu, Udyr, Zed, and Irelia top are played a lot by people who can't trust their team EVER. I end up getting Lulu a lot more than Kayle currently LOL. I agree on Darius, Aatrox, Olaf, Garen, and Lissandra.
6. Twitch isn't popular at all currently and neither are those other Marksmans, Lucian, Cait, and Trist end up scaring them away.
I know that. I said I don't like the fact it gives people fuel to bitch at people for playing non-meta champions.
ReplyDeleteAlso, apologize if my comment came off angry, guess it's just making me mad because it's another reason to get bitched at it normals for playing something I like a lot, like Vayne Top, Mid Fiora, Top Heimer.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should say "Don't use this for "fuel" to complain about things in Tier 4.", just in case.
Honestly, Poppy has far too many mana issues and not a lot of items directly support her kit. Statistically, Poppy has the highest win rate with Blade of the Ruined King, Hexdrinker, Frozen Heart and Gunblade. So it's safe to safe she's more effective as a top bruiser, which makes sense since her Q is a low cooldown % hp spell, she has decent mobility, and a passive and ult that lets her chase down the ADC.
ReplyDeleteHer win rate past the 50 minute mark is the second highest, though, so all games that last long with Poppy are more effective.
But........ Blue buff can solve that :) but she is depedent on her first clear
ReplyDeletePeople who go along with this list are kind of stupid. They're the type of people that exaggerate certain champions, and underestimate others. I.E. Miss Fortune. She doesn't have an escape, but she's so strong that she can shut down most, if not all adcs early game and snowball out of control. People really need to realize that it's all about player skill.
ReplyDelete"Her win rate past the 50 minute mark is the second highest" Where did you get that information? I wanna know :D
ReplyDeleteGood idea SSJ :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list (imo)
You're an idiot, this is what IS POPULAR, not neccarily what will bemore effective. Unless, of course, you'd like to argue that Miss Fortune is picked/banned more than Lucian, Tristana, and Caitlyn
ReplyDeleteIt was a Reddit post a month or so back, if I try hard enough, I can dig it up for you.
ReplyDeleteplz show me this, I really wanna see which champs are strongest late game statistically.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteMaybe is this post? http://sufficientblogging.blogspot.ca/2014/05/early-game-champion-late-game-champion.html
ReplyDeleteI think I understand this, it just seems redundant...if you'd like to see what's popular right this instant, just go to lolking. You can see popularity %'s of every champion, sort it by the division you're wondering about, see the daily, weekly, or monthly stats, etc. Not to mention all kinds of other things besides popularity. No need for a tier-list for this type of thing, or am I still missing something? I'll take back what I said about this being redundant if someone can explain otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThese are starting to get more accurate than the normal Solo Queue tier list
ReplyDeleteIs not only popularity, is like how strong most of the people see them. For example Xerath isn't really popular, but gets played in lcs and ogn and everybody sees him as a strong champ, even if none plays him in soloq.
ReplyDeleteI actually have a positive winrate of 60% on when sup. I play him a lot like a list at(they get close and they do). His Q makes trades almost always go in your favor and a 1.5 sec taunt at lvl 1is pretty nice.and he also has his E to block poke or for when he tries to get in range or zone the opponents. That said he is still better as a counter pick then a blind pick.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why you have Zed in Tier 1; the changes in the previous few patches have really hurt him. The BotRK changes hit him hard, since the active part which he used to help burst down squishies was nerfed pretty hard, and the power of the item was switched to the AA side. Zed doesn't autoattack much. Plus, his ult, a huge source of his damage and the only way to get a kill unless he's fed, can have its damage halved by Exhaust or even get it completely dodged by Zhonya's or QSS/Cleanse... this puts him in a really bad spot, late game he cannot do ANYTHING as long as the enemy is careful not to feed him kills and build the right items.
ReplyDeleteAh I get it, but then why use this? What's perception matter if there's another tier list based off of factual/material things like how people are doing with each champ, who's actually strong in the meta, match-ups, etc. It feels redundant, do you know what I mean? Popularity doesn't require a tier-list, nor does a perception of strength. We want to know who IS strong, not who others think is strong. Just thinking about it though, love this site but my 2 cents are that if SSJ feels like expanding beyond a single solo queue tier list every few weeks, instead of doing this he could tackle a tier list broken down into tiers (one for bronze, one for silver, etc.)
ReplyDeleteAlthough it'd be time consuming and controversial (everyone will have a problem with it) it'd be interesting and after all I do like seeing SSJ's opinions on everything. I think he has the most accurate solo queue tier lists around.
I appreciate the input Squirrel. My thoughts on this list are that it helps people understand which champions they're most likely to be facing on the fields of justice. Reading up on popular champions is important to understand the match-ups.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, there are definitely some people who are deeply prejudiced against certain champions who they believe are weak simply because everyone else finds them weak. It's simple for me to point them towards this list instead, which shows that I understand the meta and what's popular; I just don't blindly follow it.
I could potentially work on making some tier lists separated by division, but the minute differences between each tier would be (as you mentioned) extremely controversial.
For example, most of the champions (100++) will fall close to the same tier whereas other champions such as Lee Sin will gradually move up. Comments will almost certainly circulate around - "silvers can play this champion way better than bronze players can" and inevitably lead to division warfare.
I don't think I can accurately portray each division with enough certainly to argue any specifics nor prevent some very negative conversations taking place. I do appreciate the input though!
That's true. Although it'd be interesting, and I'm always up to see your judgements, I could see how the comments section would turn to crap if you were to do that. Thanks for the reply!
ReplyDeleteYes, kayle out of flavor *_*
ReplyDeletethis list is based on popularity,in the original list zed is tier 2
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what the ultimate point of the list is, because with terms like "playable" you are directly commenting on the viability of champions. But when someone disagrees, you say you're just posting what's popular. Either way, I think these types of lists are useless; I'm just commenting to SSJ to say it's great to read your analyses and comments. Thoughtful and well put. It's great to have people like you in the community.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think top lane Vayne sucks, but then again, I like to play AD jungle Malzahar.....
