How to Record Replays of your Games in League of Legends

Archive post, September 2011. Skip the setup below. League records your games for you now. Open your match history in the client under your profile, download the replay you want, and watch it in the built-in viewer, which also cuts clips straight out to a video file. Replays only stay available until the next patch, so grab anything you want to keep before then. That's both of the tools recommended here covered by the game itself. The video editor named at the end is gone as well, and its link now bounces to a generic product page rather than the download it promised, so it's plain text here rather than a link.

The past is not permanent...if you can turn back time

Interested in recording your League of Legends games? Well there are two main ways to do it:

1. Record it via LOL Replay, which will open up another instance of the client and run a replay on it. It records each game separately and saves it to your local drive. The only problem is that you can't see HP bars of champions unless you were focused in on them during the actual game.

2. Record it via Fraps, which will make a real video of the game that you can cut and edit as you'd like.


Personally, I first record it with LOL Replay, then as I'm doing a playback, I record it via Fraps.


To Upload videos to YouTube, I recommend Windows Live Movie Maker, which is a free application from Microsoft.
