Support Fiddlesticks used to be everywhere in solo queue. These days almost nobody remembers he can do this.

There was a stretch not long ago where a crow flying into your lane meant the game was already over. Fiddlesticks support was a fear-and-drain menace that punished any duo who wandered too close to a bush, and then the pick just quietly disappeared from the ranked ladder. The champion never actually got worse at the job. Everyone just stopped picking him there.

So why did a genuinely strong support fall out of the collective memory, and is it still worth reviving?

Bot Lane Synergies

Draven

Draven wants a target locked down before he commits Whirling Death onto them, and a landed fear chain from Fiddlesticks is exactly the window he needs to walk in, spin up his axes, and walk back out clean.

Samira

Samira needs a CC chain to combo her own kit into an ultimate, and Fiddlesticks can hand her one from range with Terrify or drop a flanking Crowstorm to start the fight for her instead of forcing her to engage first.

Kalista

Kalista's own Rend already punishes displaced or immobilized targets, so a fear from Fiddlesticks stacking on top of that turns an ordinary all in into a target that simply cannot fight back.

When to Pick This

Support Fiddlesticks is at his best when your bot lane has an all in carry sitting behind it, since Draven, Samira, and Kalista all want the exact same thing he provides: a guaranteed fear chain that turns a 50/50 trade into a clean kill. If your ADC already wants to dive onto a target rather than poke one down slowly, Fiddlesticks gives them the opening.

He also wants an enemy bot lane that likes to walk up and trade, since Terrify and Reap both punish a support or carry standing in a bush or at close range far more than one who plays it safe from max distance. A passive, poke heavy enemy duo gives him far fewer openings to work with.

How It Works

Guaranteed Fear Chain

Terrify and the third cast of Reap both apply fear, so Fiddlesticks can layer control onto a single target well beyond what a normal engage support brings, locking a carry out of fighting back entirely rather than just slowing them down.

Flanking Ultimate From Any Angle

Crowstorm channels from stealth and can be set up from a bush, the river, or straight through the jungle, letting Fiddlesticks start a fight from a direction the enemy bot lane never sees coming.

Real Sustain In Lane

Bountiful Harvest drains health from everything caught in it, giving Fiddlesticks a genuine sustain tool most engage supports simply do not have, which lets him hold a lane through poke that would normally force a recall.

Potential Pitfalls

Long Cooldowns Punish Every Miss

Crowstorm and Reap both come back slowly, so whiffing either one leaves Fiddlesticks doing very little for a long stretch of the fight. There is no quick reset the way an enchanter support gets from spamming a shield or a heal, so every cast has to actually land.

He Lost the Mindshare, Not the Power

Most players who pick up Fiddlesticks these days learned him as a jungler after his rework, and that is where nearly all of the practice and habit now lives. Support Fiddlesticks asks for a completely different rhythm, laning patience instead of camp clearing, and that unfamiliar skill set is a bigger reason the pick vanished from ranked than anything about his actual numbers.

Support Fiddlesticks Conclusions

Support Fiddlesticks is proof that a pick can fall out of fashion for reasons that have nothing to do with strength. He still fears, drains, and flanks exactly as well as he ever did, but the playerbase that used to run him down bot has almost entirely moved on to jungle, and nobody replaced them. For a duo with an all in carry who wants a real lockdown tool instead of another shield bot, he is still sitting there waiting to be rediscovered.
