Combo Review #17: Jhin + Sion

At Jhin's current damage output levels with the armor penetration + duskblade build, everyone is looking for the optimal support to pair him up with. Over in Korea and quickly catching on to the rest of the world is a pairing that seems odd at first glance, but its strengths are definitely notable.

Sion support is by no means your every day support. However, by combining the crowd control from this duo and free armor penetration offered by Sion, Jhin gets free reign to unleash terror on his enemies. Check out the full details below!

Introduction

At Jhin's current damage output levels with the armor penetration + duskblade build, everyone is looking for the optimal support to pair him up with. Over in Korea and quickly catching on to the rest of the world is a pairing that seems odd at first glance, but its strengths are definitely notable.

Sion support is by no means your every day support. However, by combining the crowd control from this duo and free armor penetration offered by Sion, Jhin gets free reign to unleash terror on his enemies. Check out the full details below!

Main Strengths

Stacking Crowd Control
Renown for his excellent crowd control abilities, Sion's slow allows Jhin to easily land his snare on enemies, resulting in an easy full channel on Sion's Decimating Smash (Q) knock-up.

Free 20% Armor Reduction
Different from armor penetration, armor reduction allows allies to benefit as well (more on that here). When you combine Sion's Roar of the Slayer (E) at 20% armor reduction with Jhin's Youmuu's Ghostblade, Duskblade of Draktharr, and Maw of Malmortius, even enemies with armor find themselves feeling naked. Full Jhin build here.

Strong Ultimate Synergy
By placing two champions with long range ultimates together, they work together extremely well. By leading off with Jhin's ultimate, Sion can easily slam into slowed enemies. Afterwards, the follow-up CC from Sion allows Jhin to guarantee the last hit on his ultimate, resulting in massive damage.

Weaknesses

  • No Sustain - As a result of the limited to non-existent sustain on this combination, it does need to be quite aggressive in order to prevent getting poked down during laning phase. This may result in getting camped by the enemy jungler.
  • No Heal/Shield Bonus - In the current meta, having a shield or heal allows support champions to gain an advantage through the buffs offered by Ardent Censer and Mikael's Crucible. However, since Sion has no such spell, you lose this benefit.

Conclusions

This combination is actually very strong in terms of laning phase, and can easily snowball into a game-winning strategy. I would keep be very wary if I saw this combination in-game.
