Top Team Comps #65: Late Game Comp

This team composition revolves around one thing and one thing only, getting to late game and one-shotting enemy champions. Early game is a farm-fest and their jungler is left vulnerable, but if they manage to get to 40 minutes in..watch out!

Theme

This team composition revolves around one thing and one thing only, getting to late game and one-shotting enemy champions. Early game is a farm-fest and their jungler is left vulnerable, but if they manage to get to 40 minutes in..watch out!

Champions

Vayne [Marksman] - The queen of late-game, her insane game ending damage dodging skills combined with her naturally high scaling via attack speed mean that she's one of the few AD carries with the ability to literally 1v5 enemy teams.

Veigar [Mid] - No surprise here. With unlimited scaling, it's very realistic to see winning Veigars with over 1000 AP in a single game. How about over 9000?

Thresh [Support] - With his extremely versatile skillset, Thresh is not only the playmaker of this team, but also has infinite scaling via his passive as well. Again, in a game where he can freely collect souls, Thresh can scale up to be a late game brick wall.

Mordekaiser [Jungler] - Some of you might be questioning this pick. Mordekaiser? Jungle? That sounds silly. Well put it this way: On a team where they're focusing on simply farming to late game, they don't need any early game pressure. However, if they do manage to lose lane, it will likely be bot lane losing. With a Mordekaiser on the team combined with a Veigar late game...you'll ensure that you have at least one very fed AD carry.

Nasus [Top Laner] - Few, if any explanation needed here. Again, with infinite scaling, you may be able to someday achieve the legendary one-shot on a turret.

Key Concepts

  • This team should focus almost fully on farming until level 6, at which point they can try to make some kill plays.
  • The longer the game goes, the higher your chances of winning.
  • Give Mordekaiser a good leash. He's almost definitely going to get counter jungled.

Countering

Beating a team like this generally revolves around having strong early game combined with good CC to lock down the hypercarries.

Here's an example team that may succeed:
  • Morgana [Mid] - Veigar has a bit of trouble farming at turret, and also has the nasty habit of mauling your allies if he hits his stun. Using Morgana, she can avoid getting gimped early on, and also naturally builds Zhonyas that can dodge all his spells.
  • Nidalee [Jungle] - Queen of early game counter-jungling, she also works well with her high range poke to avoid getting too close to late game Nasus. Without sustain on the enemy team, they're highly susceptible to poke.
  • Trundle [Top] - Believe it or not, Trundle makes an excellent counter to Nasus top lane. He doesn't have any accidental wave pushing spells, has equally broken levels of sustain, and has the ability to severely drain Nasus' defensive stats.
  • Leona [Support] - A highly aggressive support, she does well to counter Thresh hooks and to bully Vayne early to mid-game.
  • Ashe [ADC] - As a champion with the second longest range in the game, she can easily bully Vayne early. This combined with her CC level 6 means that she can easily 2v2 when their ultimates come up. Her self-peel also works very well against any God Dogs running at her.
