Full Client Repair Failed

What it means

League's own repair tool couldn't finish. Riot traces it to the drive, either an aging disk or one League isn't allowed to write to.

What to try first

Restart the PC and run the repair again. If it fails a second time, check you've got 8GB free on the drive.

Is it you or Riot? If lots of players are hitting this at once, it's probably the servers. Check League server status before you start reinstalling things.

What Riot blames

Riot's article gives two example causes, and both are about the drive. It may be old. Or League may not have permission to write to it. Riot orders its fixes from simplest to heaviest and treats each as a separate attempt, so try the repair again after every step.

The quick checks

  1. Restart the computer and run the repair again.
  2. Use a cable rather than Wi-Fi if you can.
  3. Free up space. Riot sets the floor at 8GB free for League to repair and patch properly.
  4. Close every League process. On Windows, Ctrl+Shift+Esc opens Task Manager. On a Mac, search Spotlight for Activity Monitor.
  5. Check the other accounts. Shared PC? A League session left running under someone else's login counts too.

Testing the hardware

If the repair still won't finish, Riot moves on to the drive itself. On Windows, search Start for chkdsk, run it and follow its prompts. On a Mac, open Disk Utility, pick the drive on the left and run First Aid.

Drive's fine? Then it's the memory's turn, which is a bit of a jump from where the list started. Search Start for Windows Memory Diagnostic and choose to restart and check for problems (save your work first, since the PC reboots). Errors in that test point to your RAM. (Riot's article still carries a footnote for Windows XP, which never had this tool built in.)

After all that, Riot's two remaining options are a support ticket with your logs attached or a fresh reinstall of League. A repair that never got going at all (you're stuck on the "problem with your installation" message) has its own fix, including how to start one by hand.
