How to Beat Singed
Don't chase Singed. You already knew that, and you're going to do it anyway.
Almost nothing he does is aimed at killing you directly. He walks past, leaves a cloud behind him, and waits for you to decide that this time you'll catch him. The kit is built so that the chase itself is the damage: he's faster than you while you're near him, the ground under him slows you down, and the one thing he'll actually commit to is picking you up and putting you somewhere worse. Beating him is much less about mechanics than about being willing to look passive for twenty minutes.
- Range, so the poison never reaches you
- Wave clear that makes his trip around the map pointless
- The discipline to walk away from a kill you nearly had

Singed Overview
Strengths: What Makes Him Dangerous
- The chase is the trap. Following him costs you health every second and gains you nothing, and he gets faster the longer you're next to him.
- Fling [E] is the only thing he needs to land. It doesn't do the killing. Your own tower does, or a jungler, or the four hundred damage of poison you walked through getting there.
- He's often not in the lane at all. A Singed who's farming between your towers has turned a fight you might have won into a map problem your whole team has to answer.
- Nothing about him respects a lead. Being ahead of him doesn't make him play carefully, because his plan never involved winning a trade in the first place.
Weaknesses: Where You Get In
- He can't do anything to you at range. There's no poke, no gap closer worth the name, and no answer to an opponent who simply keeps standing eight hundred units away.
- His damage needs time you don't have to give him. Step out of the cloud and the whole threat stops. It's the rare damage source that's fully optional.
- Ignoring him works. He's built to punish greed, and a player who takes the wave, takes the plate and leaves has beaten the kit without interacting with it.
- The trip around the map is a gamble. A Singed farming behind your tower is a Singed with no vision, no escape route and no team nearby (the cheapest kill on the board, if anybody's paying attention).
- He needs the fight to be long. Burst him inside a couple of seconds and none of the slow, patient machinery ever gets going.
Countering Singed
Based on the strengths and weaknesses above, beating Singed comes down to champions who can accomplish at least one of the following:
- Outrange him. Every point of damage he has is applied within touching distance, so a laner who never lets him get there has already won.
- Match the wave instead of the champion. If your lane doesn't crash without you, his trip behind your tower earns him a slow farm and costs him everything else.
- Kill him in one window. Burst gives the poison no time to matter and gives him no time to walk away from it.
- Decide the chase rule before the game starts. Two seconds of following him is fine. Four is a death. Pick the number now, because you won't be reasonable about it later.
If you're already locked into the matchup without any of those tools, these strategies still work:
Playing a Bad Singed Matchup
Stand on the side of the wave away from your tower. Almost every death to him is a Fling [E] that only needed to move you a short distance to be fatal, and that distance is a choice you make before he casts anything.
Tell your jungler early if he starts farming behind you. That's information for your jungler, and it's the difference between a free kill and a lane that quietly lost four waves.
Count the real cost of the trade. Half your health and no kill is a loss (even though it feels like a near miss), and this matchup is decided almost entirely by how many near misses you're willing to collect.
Best Singed Counters
Never be in range, never lose the wave, or refuse to die at the moment the trap closes.

Teemo Never In Range
Singed needs you close, either chasing him or standing next to him long enough for a Fling [E]. Teemo does his work from range and has no reason to do either, and the poison on his attacks chips Singed down while the wave comes to him.
His mushrooms cover the rest. A Singed who wants to run past the wave or through the jungle has to walk over ground Teemo has been planting all game, and every trap he steps on slows and reveals him.

Vladimir The Poison Doesn't Stick
Chip damage over time is the one thing Vladimir genuinely doesn't mind, and he can leave the ground he's standing on the instant it turns hostile.
The two of them also want the same shape of game, and Vladimir is much better at it. Both are happy to farm and be terrifying at thirty minutes, except one of them gets there faster.

Kayle Survives The Setup
Her ultimate is the direct answer to the only sequence he's actually trying to produce (a Fling [E] followed by something else finishing the job). Take the invulnerability at the right moment and the whole plan turns into a wasted cooldown and a Singed standing next to your tower.
Itemizing Against Singed
His damage is magic and it arrives gradually, so the buys are about staying mobile and taking the slow tick out of the equation:

Mercury's Treads is the first buy because the ground he lays down is what turns a chase into a death, and shortening the time you spend stuck in it matters more here than the magic resist does. Force of Nature is close to purpose built for this matchup, since it answers repeated small hits rather than one big one and hands back movement speed in a fight that's decided by movement speed. Wit's End suits a top laner who has to keep attacking through the cloud and wants the resistance without giving up the damage. And the Control Ward is on the list for an unusual reason: his best move is a trip behind your tower that only works while nobody knows he's there, and a ward in the right piece of jungle turns his cleverest play into the easiest kill of the game.
