How to Beat Camille

Matchup Guide · Evergreen · 3 Counter Picks

Camille doesn't chase you down. She picks a wall you weren't watching, arrives from it, and then removes your exit entirely.

Camille support took a top lane duelist and pointed her at the two squishiest players on the map, and the part that stings is how little say you get in it. Her opening move comes off terrain, and by the time you've reacted you're already sealed inside a circle with two people. She's earned her place among the scariest supports on our solo queue tier list, but her whole pattern rests on two dashes and one long cooldown, and all three are things you can take away.

What a Counter Needs
  • A way to stop, ground, or punish a dash, because every engage she owns is one
  • Enough damage reduction, healing, or stasis to run out The Hextech Ultimatum [R]'s timer
  • Vision on the walls beside your lane, since Hookshot [E] needs terrain to launch from

Camille Overview

Strengths: What Makes Her Dangerous

  • Hookshot [E] pulls her to a wall and launches her off it with a knockup on landing, so her engage range is set by the terrain around your lane rather than by her own reach.
  • The Hextech Ultimatum [R] anchors you inside a small arena for the duration and amplifies her attacks against you. Flashing doesn't get you out of it.
  • Adaptive Defenses [Passive] shields her against whichever damage type she just took, so her first trade is always cheaper than the one you took.
  • Precision Protocol [Q] adds true damage on the delayed recast plus free move speed, which turns two basic attacks into a serious chunk of your health bar.
  • Tactical Sweep [W] heals her off the outer half of the cone, so she can trade, step back, and come back to the wave at full health.

Weaknesses: Where You Get In

  • Both of her engages are dashes. Anything that stops, grounds, or punishes a dash deletes her entire opening move.
  • Hookshot [E] needs a wall. In the open middle of a lane she's a melee champion with no gap closer at all, walking at two ranged players.
  • The Ultimatum is only a timer. Survive the duration and she's spent a cooldown that starts at 140 seconds for nothing.
  • Support Camille is squishy. She buys almost no health on that build, so a returned burst kills her as fast as she kills you.
  • Her early cooldowns are long. Hookshot [E] is 16 seconds at rank 1 and Tactical Sweep [W] is 12. That's a very large window to walk up and take the wave.

Countering Camille

Based on the strengths and weaknesses above, beating Camille comes down to champions who can accomplish at least one of the following:

  • Stop the dash. Dash denial, grounding, or a knockback timed to the moment she leaves the wall ends the play before any of her damage happens.
  • Ward the wall. Hookshot [E] launches from terrain beside or behind your lane, so that's where the control ward has to sit.
  • Run out the arena. Damage reduction, a cleanse, stasis, or a revive all turn her ultimate into a 140 second cooldown she spent on nothing.
  • Punish the walk-up. With Hookshot [E] down she has to approach on foot past an entire bot lane, and she has no way to leave once she gets there.

If you're already locked into the matchup without any of those tools, these strategies still work:

Playing a Bad Camille Matchup

Hold your lane position away from your own side walls. Camille's threat range is measured from terrain, so standing in open ground shrinks it a lot, and it costs you almost no farm.

Count Hookshot [E]. It's the longest cooldown she uses regularly, and the window after she misses it is when you take the wave or the plate (or the fight, if your side's ready for one).

Buy a control ward and put it on the wall she keeps using. The lane bush can wait. What you're paying for is a look at the launch point, since Hookshot [E] can't grab a bush.

Tell your carry to save their escape for the Ultimatum rather than burning it on the Hookshot [E]. The knockup is survivable. The arena is the part that kills people, and once she's landed it nothing gets them out (Flash included), so the escape has to happen before she leaps.

Best Camille Counters

Leona beats support Camille more often than anyone in our games, with Alistar and Poppy close behind. The three below each answer her somewhere different (before the dash, during the ultimate or after the kill), so pick the one that covers what your team's missing.

Poppy champion icon

Poppy Cancels Her Dashes

Steadfast Presence [W] projects a field that stops enemy dashes outright, then grounds and slows whatever it caught. Camille's Hookshot [E] and her ultimate are both dashes, so Poppy has a single button that answers her entire opening move.

The passive half matters too. Poppy gains armor and magic resist that doubles when she's low, so even the Camille who does connect finds a support who's tankier than the fight assumed. Heroic Charge [E] then pushes her into a wall for a long stun, and Camille has no way to cancel it once she's committed.

Alistar champion icon

Alistar Shrugs Off the Burst

Unbreakable Will [R] cleanses every disabling effect on Alistar and cuts his incoming damage hard for the duration. The Hextech Ultimatum [R] creates a timed duel Camille expects to win. Alistar just runs the clock out standing there.

Outside the ultimate he's the wrong target for her entirely. Pulverize [Q] tosses her the moment she lands, Headbutt [W] sends her back out of range before Precision Protocol [Q]'s second hit, and Trample [E] lets him ignore unit collision so the minion wave never protects her.

Zilean champion icon

Zilean Undoes the Kill

Chronoshift [R] is the cleanest possible answer to a champion whose whole plan is a private duel with a deadline. Camille commits her ultimate, wins it, and the kill simply doesn't happen. She's now standing in your bot lane with no ultimate and no escape. Granted, Chronoshift [R] has a long cooldown too, but it comes back sooner than hers does (120 seconds against 140 at rank 1).

The lane phase works too. Time Warp [E] on Camille removes the move speed she needs to reach anyone, and a double Time Bomb [Q] detonation stuns her mid approach. Neither is flashy, but both are cast from well outside the range she's able to threaten.

Itemizing Against Camille

Camille's damage is almost all physical, and her kill pattern is a short window rather than sustained pressure. Build for that window rather than for a long fight:

Plated Steelcaps Randuin's Omen Zhonya's Hourglass Guardian Angel

Plated Steelcaps and Randuin's Omen both blunt the basic attacks that carry Precision Protocol [Q], and Randuin's slows her chase on top of it. Zhonya's Hourglass is the single best purchase any mid or bot laner can make into her, because stasis inside the arena runs her ultimate's timer down while she does nothing. Guardian Angel does the same job a beat later.
