Guide to Playing Ahri Support

Ahri support is one of those champions where they pick it and you say to yourself oh god...Ahri support...actually you know what, why not? It's got crowd-control and plenty of damage, it's not the worst pick at all. Possibly not optimal, but what should we expect from her? Surprisingly, a lot. Played at high levels she's quite good.

How It Works

Good Early Push Power
Out of all the champions in the game, few champions have level 1 waveclear better than Ahri. Bot lane, she's almost guaranteed to be the strongest pusher. This means that she can easily get level two before the enemy laners even if her marksman isn't pushing hard.

Strong All-In
Ahri's all-in level 2 is very strong, especially if she's able to poke a few times with her Q early game. It's especially potent against melee champions and she's capable of executing surprisingly high burst damage.

Anti-Dash Attacks
Ahri's Charm [E] has almost as much utility as Janna's tornado and can stop common dash attacks like Lee Sin [Q], Zac [E], Alistar [W] just to name a few. This provides her with a difficult to use, but potentially very powerful utility spell.

Safe Late Game
Late game, supports are expected to ward but also become prey to enemy campers very easily. Ahri has less trouble with this as a result of her low cooldown triple dash escape. Worst case scenario, she could even...use her real flash.

Potential Pitfalls

Clears Backwave Early
At max rank Q and Luden's Echo, Ahri's Q fortunately/unfortunately one-shots the backwave. This means that even if you're trying to push to help, you may end up taking a significant amount of CS from your teammates.

Needs Clear Line of Sight
Ahri's charm needs a clear line of sight, much like Blitzcrank. All the disadvantages of hook champions also apply here and if your bot lane can't control the lane it becomes very difficult to land a charm.

Countering Ahri Support

Countering Ahri support mostly involves picking someone that either outranges her like Xerath or Vel'Koz or playing an all-in champion that's not easily stopped by her charm like Blitzcrank.

Conclusions

Ahri Support is quite good and packs a significant amount of crowd-control and damage. She's also very slippery and an excellent late-game champion. However, she doesn't fit on every team and is definitely more damage than utility heavy.

Suggested Tier: Tier 2
