As we come to a close this season, we're still seeing a strong trend towards kill heavy champions in all-lanes. Assassins reign supreme in the mid lane, and champions with heavy early game kill potential are also top tier bot. Meanwhile, old favorites are still chugging along in the jungle, and Lee Sin still proves to be every jungler's favorite champion design closing in on almost a decade.

The purpose of the "Flavor of the Month" ("FOTM") list is to show which champions are popular in today's metagame in terms of pro picks and high Elo choices.

This tier list details which champions are most popular in today's current metagame, for better or for worse. Selecting a high popularity champion and doing mediocre is always favorable to selecting a low tier champion and doing mediocre for team morale.
God Tier: These champions are common bans and are likely perceived as being "overall extremely strong/broken". They have very obvious and/or flashy skills that make them appear stronger than other champions. You'll likely see these champions picked early on if they're not banned.
Tier 1: These champions are the ones you'll see in the majority of your games and are good to familiarize yourself with as you'l be battling against them a lot.
Tier 2: These champions are relatively strong and have historically been picked more often than other champions. They may have been nerfed at one point at another, but are still perceived as strong in their current states.
Tier 3: These champions aren't quite as popular as the rest of the champions in the first 3 tiers, but picking them one at a time isn't going to cause much of a concern on your team. However, if you have a team of 5 of them your teammates are likely to feel a bit uneasy about your chances of winning in solo queue.
Tier 4: Selecting these champions will likely cause a rift between you and your teammates, who will proceed to flame you if you fail your lane. Exercise caution when selecting these champions, as team morale often plays a big part in victory or defeat.
Champion Explanations
Akali [God Tier Mid] - The more practice that players get with Akali, the more it becomes apparent that her kit continues to be abused in increasingly annoying ways that makes playing against a practiced Akali main completely unfun. The good news is that her skill floor is still pretty high, which means the majority of Akali players you go against won't be at the level where she's an auto-win.
Janna [Tier 1 Support] - The bot lane support meta keeps evolving into a high kill-pressure lane. While Janna currently isn't that popular, expect her to start rising up as a result of her insane disengage potential, which directly counters engage supports.
Leblanc [God Tier Mid] - Players are quickly wising up her her damage potential, and are much more patient when it comes to poking down enemy champions. Leblanc players used to live for the one-shot and ended up exposing themselves to a lot more potential crowd control and damage. Now, most are satisfied with chunking enemy marksmen for 80% of their health and waiting around for a while to see if they stick around. This results in a much safer play-style, and Leblanc is thriving.
Lucian [God Tier Marksman] - Lucian still has the strongest level 2 powerspike in the game. However, after nerfs to other marksmen he's pretty much the best mid to late game marksman for taking down both enemy tanks and squishies alike.
Pyke [God Tier Support] - In line with the kill-lanes bot, Pyke has quickly found his niche as one of the top two most popular supports in the game. His engage potential is immense, and he's far more slippery than most other assassins. The best part is, you never get yelled at for KSing with your ultimate...unless you're laning with a Draven.
Rakan [Tier 1 Support] - Rakan's almost undodgable crowd-control via his W + R is only made stronger by the incredible range that he can pull it off at. Early game he can suffer if he doesn't get enough pressure on the enemy lane, but otherwise he's an amazing support whose late-game engage potential is second to none.
Urgot [God Tier Top] - Urgot's unsealed spellbook build has done wonders over the last two months, and despite not having a strong damage rune, he's able to snowball lanes and run through enemy teams by himself. Meanwhile, the realization that QSS can remove his ultimate probably did more harm than good since the magic resist won't help with the bulk of Urgot's damage.
Viktor [Tier 1 Mid] - Viktor mid is seeing a strong resurgence as a result of his success in the top lane. He's not terribly mobile with his E max mid-lane, but his lasers are still very fun to use and minion dematerializer really helps to take out full minion waves early on.
