Combo Review #25: Rakan Combos

As a support main, I'm extremely happy with Rakan's release. He's fun, he's mobile, and he's able to make flashy plays. Although he's obviously very good with Xayah, he honestly does not synergize particularly well with any specific marksman, and most teams should probably just pick whatever they're comfortable with.

On the other hand, he does synergize well with a variety of other champions on his team, namely some AOE heavy ones that can deal massive amounts of damage with a good Rakan on board. Check out some of his top duo partners below!

Top Combo Partners

Orianna
Orianna's always in need of a good ball delivery system, and it's very easy to toss her ball on Rakan from behind, have him jump to you, then jump to the enemy to charm/knock them all up. Follow it up with an Orianna ult and a jump back to safety (if any are still alive). His shields also stack well with Orianna's ball shield, resulting in a very difficult to kill engagement tool. It does need some coordinate to perfect, but a well-executed combo is devastating.

Rumble
One of the hardest parts of being a good Rumble is keeping enemy champions inside of his ultimate. At a full 2.5 second duration crowd control from outta nowhere, Rakan can easily keep enemies in range for the almost the full duration of Rumble's ultimate, resulting in massive quantities of damage.

Fiddlesticks
Fiddlesticks players may find it difficult to maximize their ultimate without a diving buddy and some crowd control. Rakan fits the bill perfectly with his non-linear AOE crowd control, which can quickly tag all the enemy champions even if they're running in opposite directions.

Katarina
Katarina's mobility makes it difficult for her allies to keep up sometimes, but Rakan's double jump means that he can follow Kat from target to target, charming his way through enemy teams and leading Katarina to the promised pentakill land.

Kalista
Kalista's somewhat of a question mark, since generally burst damage champions work best with Rakan rather than sustained damage ones. However, the added mobility from Kalista's ultimate means that Rakan has more tools at his disposal than ever before, allowing him to pull off extra savage plays.

Thoughts on Countering

Countering Rakan seems to be mostly about winning the laning phase via ranged sustain/shield champions. His range is very short, and even his Gleaming Quill [Q] tends to open him up to some unfavorable trades with most meta ranged supports.

His mid-game is definitely where he shines, and players that abuse his early game tend to end up ahead.
