Instructions and Caveats:

  • Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
  • Champions UNDERLINED may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
  • Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
  • This tier list takes data from ALL players; however, since the majority of players fall in the first three tiers, the majority of data points will come from there.
  • Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength, but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
  • The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.

Champion Explanations

  • Azir [Tier 3 Mid] - After nerf after nerf, Azir is in a state where his utility is still extremely powerful, but he is no longer viable for the majority of players to pick up. If you are willing to dedicate yourself to embracing the emperor in his entirety and practicing the Shurima Shuffle until your hands bleed, then he can still be strong in the right hands. However, hands like these are far and few between.
  • Fiddlesticks [Tier 1 Jungle] - Despite the high win rate Fiddlesticks has displayed lately, it is also a result of the players using him also having a particularly high number of games played with him. As a result, I think he is good right now, but not overwhelmingly so until you can master all the spots where he can jump from using his ultimate.
  • Hecarim [God Tier Jungle] - As expected, the latest patch data still shows Hecarim as a major powerhouse, with startling high win rates, ban rates, and play rates all at the same time. It is rare that this occurs, and I am surprised Riot did not address him this patch.
  • Lux [Tier 1 Mid] - The shift in power from Lux's Light Binding (Q) to her passive is actually very beneficial for her mid-game, and allows her to clear waves much more efficiently. Additionally, her burst combo is slightly stronger, resulting in a buff rather than a pure tweak.
  • Ryze [Tier 3 Mid] - The new Ryze appears to be very gimmicky and reliant on your team to follow up. His burst damage is still decent, but the additional mechanics on his kit appear to be a bit contrary to his usual face roll, and players are not adapting very well.
  • Sejuani [God Tier Jungle] - Similar to Amumu, Sejuani is in a great spot right now as a result of her high sustained damage and excellent AOE CC. Hextech Protobelt also works very well with her, and allows her to engage without her ultimate from twice as far away.
  • Sona [God Tier Support] - Sure, let us just give Sona 67% cooldown reduction, what could *possibly* go wrong? She is completely broken right now, especially after Patch 6.13's boosts on heals and shields. I am really not sure how this one made it through to live, but if you don't ban or pick her, you will probably lose.
  • Sona [Tier 2 Mid] - Personally I think she is closer to a Tier 1 mid laner, but placing her above Zed would no doubt earn me some angry looks. An insanely powerful damage support, Sona also scales very well as a ranged assassin/healer combo. By giving her so much cooldown, there are very few champions that can possibly escape her once she gets enough mana to sustain a chase.
  • Taliyah [Tier 2 Mid] - After the changes to Taliyah's kit, she is looking much more balanced compared to last patch. By reducing her AOE damage, players are free to focus on avoiding her high damage skillshot rather than prioritizing moving out of the AOE.
  • Viktor [God Tier Mid] - The latest nerfs to his power spike timing appear to be relatively ineffective for taking Viktor down too many notches, and his core strengths remain the same.
  • Vladimir [Tier 1 Mid] - Vladimir is one of those champions that players die to during his empowered Q and declare him absolutely broken. On a straight out fight, he is certainly very good. However, once opponents acknowledge his close range strength, he can still be kited and focused down, especially if your team has built a Morellonomicon. He currently sports a bottom 5 win rate as a mid laner, but as I do agree he can be very strong in the right hands and is not particularly difficult; thus, I'm moving him up to Tier 1.
