Hi everyone, as my inbox is showing, many of you still enjoy the Twisted Treeline Tier List and would like an update. We've heard your call and have answered in kind; behold the Twisted Treeline Tier List for you to find!

This update includes some notable rises in popular Summoner's Rift champions like Viktor and Hecarim. Additionally, after all the Poppy and tank item changes, she dropped quite a bit in the standings from a sheer power perspective. However, her terrain-based utility is there, so she remains quite high.

THE TWISTED TREELINE

Introduction

Hi everyone, as my inbox is showing, many of you still enjoy the Twisted Treeline Tier List and would like an update. We've heard your call and have answered in kind; behold the Twisted Treeline Tier List for you to find!

This update includes some notable rises in popular Summoner's Rift champions like Viktor and Hecarim. Additionally, after all the Poppy and tank item changes, she dropped quite a bit in the standings from a sheer power perspective. However, her terrain-based utility is there, so she remains quite high.

Check out the full scope below!

Current Metagame
Right now there are THREE main methods of playing Twisted Treeline:
  1. Duo top with a support like Braum and a marksman like Lucian
  2. Two solo lanes with a jungler (Generally glass cannons stay bot)
  3. Duo top with a melee bruiser w/Smite + Braum or Maokai and a standard AP or ranged AD bot
It seems for the most part higher tier teams prefer the support meta running exhaust + ignite, whereas lower divisions seem to do better with the level advantage from having a jungler.

Most strong top lane solo champions will also do well with a support with strong CC for invasion potential.

Based off of this, I'm splitting this tier list into "roles" similar to the solo queue 5s list. However, as there are only 3 positions open, I won't be including every champion into this list. If you feel that I've missed out on a strong champion, please let me know and I'll include it in the next update.

Tier 4 [Not Played Often]: Everybody else. Not to say that you can't win with other champions, but for the most part the ones above will give you plenty to work with. Feel free to try out other strategies and post your experiences in the comment section below!

AD/AP Positioning

Due to the way the map is arranged, bot lane is generally considered the "safer" lane, so the solo laner almost always goes here. However, as this game mode is somewhat uncommon, you may see teams send two champions to bot lane. As a result, it's generally best to send an AP bot with long range waveclear, as these champions can deal with both 1v1 and 1v2 lanes.

This means that for the most part, the AD based champion will go top. However, swapping these around isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a good idea to make sure that you have a mix of damage types so that the enemy team can't easily itemize against you.

When you duo in one lane with a support, top is almost always better as it's easier to invade their jungle through the top lane, and it's much easier to bully the melee laner as well since they generally lack ranged waveclear.

Champion Explanations

  • Anivia [Bot Lane God] - In her current state, Anivia offers in insane amount of waveclear throughout all stages of the game combined with an extremely high amount of burst damage. This allows her to compete any mid-laner 1v1, and also allows her to hit her level two advantage faster than most. Additionally, her ice wall's effectiveness is greatly amplified on this map as a result of the tight corridors, making her a must pick/ban.
  • Bard [Tier 1 Support] - After nerfs on tank items, Bard is starting to make a comeback on Twisted Treeline. His tunnels allow for his teammates and himself to gank from unforeseen angles, and his stun potency is greatly amplified by the tight corridors and multitude of walls that he can pin enemies to.
  • Caitlyn [Tier 1 Marksman] - Some people consider Caitlyn to be the strongest marksman on this map right now, but only in a well arranged team. When you combine her with someone like Braum, her traps allow her to completely negate the possibility of a gank and simultaneously bully their way through turrets quickly for a gold and sight advantage.
  • Darius [Top God] - When enemies are not playing a support + marksman composition, Darius reigns supreme as king of the melee. His ability to trade and sustain through teamfights makes him absolutely devastating, even if he gets cheesed early.
  • Hecarim [Jungle God] - Similar to Summoner's Rift, Hecarim's inadvertent buff via the Trinity Force changes made him incredibly strong on the Twisted Treeline as well. His ultimate  and AOE heal is also easier to land on the entire team as a result of the smaller map and tendency towards melee champions.
  • Lucian [Marksman God] - Despite his nerfs, Lucian remains a very strong pick on Twisted Treeline as a result of his strong synergy with supports like Braum and Leona. Additionally, his Youmuu's + Black Cleaver build gives him extremely good kiting potential against Bruisers, resulting in great trades.
  • Olaf [Tier 1 Top] - Olaf is very good 1v1 top lane, but picking him does need a good team composition to supplement him. He is also used as a counterpick against marksmen compositions, but has limited success as a first pick.
  • Poppy [Tier 1 Top] - Although Poppy and her core items were nerfed several times since the last update, she remains a decent pick on this map as a result of the good wall slam angles this map provides.
  • Viktor [Bot Lane God] - Similar to Summoner's Rift, Viktor is performing incredibly well on the Twisted Treeline lately. The nerfs should not affect him here as much as they will on Summoner's Rift since like Darius, he's always been a popular pick here.
  • Zilean [Tier 1 Bot] - Zilean in his current state is incredibly annoying on this map. Making the game into a 4v3, Zilean's utility spells give him status as one of the top three utility champions on this map alongside Morgana and Lulu.
Disclaimer:
  • The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for hero selection.
  • While I'm by no means a guru on the Twisted Treeline I do enjoy playing the game mode quite a bit and hope that they'll introduce the solo queue 3v3 some day.
  • That being said, take this tier list with a grain of salt and feel free to engage in open debate in the comment section with your own thoughts and comments. As the game mode isn't all that popular right now, hopefully this list will help spur some of you to try it out!
