Combo Review #8: Nocturne + Twitch

Sometimes you're just sitting there farming when all of a sudden Nocturne comes swooping in to 100 to 0 you. Sometimes you're just recalling to base when some rat decides that you look like cheese and proceeds to melt you down into a nice fondue.

Sometimes...both happen at the same time while you're standing in a full warded lane and feeling pretty good about yourself. Sorry bud.

Introduction

Sometimes you're just sitting there farming when all of a sudden Nocturne comes swooping in to 100 to 0 you. Sometimes you're just recalling to base when some rat decides that you look like cheese and proceeds to melt you down into a nice fondue.

Sometimes...both happen at the same time while you're standing in a full warded lane and feeling pretty good about yourself. Sorry bud.

Main Goal

The main goal of this combo is obviously to find champions standing around alone, and proceed to ambush them from behind, in front, or the side, fielder's choice.

Additional Synergies

Twitch tends to be a fairly squishy champion, and is prone to detection via pink wards. However, even if he happens to walk over one, a quick Nocturne ult will drop Twitch back into the shadows where he's most comfortable.

Alternative Tactics

Alternative tactics include other invisibility based champions to combo with Nocturne such as:
  • Evelynn (With Nocturne Top) - She can't get quite as close to enemy champions, but she can approach without tripping wards from a much farther distance.
  • Rengar (Top) - With this combo enemies will get more warning than usual, but the burst damage is much higher as a trade-off.
  • Kha'Zix (Top or Swap Noc to Jungle) - Enemies get less warning, but you also get less time to execute.
You could also swap Nocturne out with another global based champion such as:
  • Shen - His ultimate doesn't break stealth, so the double gank is very possible.
  • Pantheon - A bit less consistent, but Pantheon ultimate is still one of the longest range ultimates in the game for sneaking up on unsuspecting foes.
  • Twisted Fate - Fairly self-explanatory ultimate gank, his sight granting abilities also helps prevent getting counter-ganked.

Potential Difficulties

This combo is very easy to execute and does not provide much in the way of potential difficulties. Getting into position with Twitch without getting spotted by wards/pink wards can be tricky against wary individuals, but otherwise not a problem.

Late game it's also difficult to position the sneak attack against a grouped tanky team, but generally at that point you can adjust to a more standard teamfight strategy.

Conclusions

Nocturne + Twitch is one of those combinations that works surprisingly well, despite having a low amount of CC provided by the two of them. By focusing on sneaky damage rather than straight-forward fighting, this combo nets some very cheesy kills.

Give it a whirl and see how it goes, or replace them with some of your favorite alternatives!
