New "/remake" Feature Launched to Combat AFK Players!

A feature that's been in the works for quite some time, Riot finally released the highly anticipated "/remake" feature, which allows teams to restart games with an AFK or DC on their team.

It does not require the vote of the enemy team, but it DOES require that no first blood has been given.

I suppose that means if you have someone DC'd from the start, don't try and kill the enemy opponent in the first three minutes. On the other hand, it does sound open to abuse if the enemy notices you have an AFK, waits until you hit them, then runs into your turret...wonder if that's a reportable offense if it's to win? Anyway, don't do that. Instead, check out the details below, slated for Patch 6.11 release (the one after the one with the new rock surfing champion).

Play games that matter with /remake

Even if the occasional stomp feels great, every game of League should feel hard-fought and competitive on both sides. With that in mind, /remake lets you mash the eject button at the beginning of a 4v5 game, ending the match consequence-free, and allowing everyone to move on to a more equitable rumble. Here’s how it works:

  • If any player is dc’d or flagged afk for at least ninety seconds at the three minute markand there’s been no first blood, all players on the short-handed team are prompted to /remake with a chat message
  • All players on that team have one minute to prompt a vote by typing /remake in chat
  • The vote needs at least two of four players (or at least 30% of the players on the voting team to agree), at which point the game ends
  • All players connected to the game basically pretend the game never happened, gaining or losing no LP/IP/XP, and seeing no change to their overall W/L records
  • The dc’d player (or players) takes full LP losses or drop a promo game, and are also flagged byLeaver Buster
  • Note for ranked: To protect competitive integrity, Diamond V and above players will also take a loss when the dc’d player is in their premade; We’ll keep an eye on this restriction to see if it needs to extend to lower ranks

/Remake rolls out for testing in NA during patch 6.11 and a global launch shouldn’t be far behind. Check out the FAQ below and hit us with any questions in the comments!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What queues will /remake be available in?
A: All normal and ranked Summoner’s Rift and Twisted Treeline queues, sans-bot matches.

Q: When exactly can I start a /remake vote?
A: Only when prompted. This will occur once a game, at the three minute mark of an eligible game.

Q: So, my team just started a /remake vote. I stopped playing to vote, and I died. What happens?
A: Once the vote starts, it will resolve regardless of kills. So, you’re good.

Q: Okay, what exactly happens after a /remake vote is successful?
A: The game ends. All players go to the end-game lobby. The dc’d player is Leaver Busted and incurs a loss. All other players face no consequences, basically pretending the game didn’t happen, and can requeue whenever.

Q: Are 4v5’s really that common?
A: They’re not, but when 4v5s do happen, they feel awful. So even if they’re pretty when compared with the past, we felt like the pain was worth solving for.

Q: What if a player dc’s after the three minute mark?
A: After the three minute mark, the game’s considered a game of record and /remake will not be an option. This shields the integrity of individual games, ranked queues, and W/L records.

Q: I totally read the whole article, and I know it says “first blood”, but do executions prevent a /remake vote?
A: Executions will not stop a /remake, only a PvP kill will.

Q: Do the extra rules around Diamond players and premades affect normal games or just ranked?
A: Just ranked. If you’re Diamond and in a premade with the dc’d player in a Normal game, you can /remake with no consequences.

Q: I’m a Plat player in a premade with a Diamond player who dc’s. If I vote to /remake, will I lose LP?
A: No, only Diamond players in a premade with the dc’d player incur losses from remade games.

Q: I’m a Diamond player in a premade with a Plat player who dc’s. If I vote to /remake, will I lose LP?
A: Yes. Diamond players in a premade with the dc’d player will incur a loss from the remade game. Diamond players not in a premade with the dc’d players will not take a loss.

Q: If I’m dc’d player, or affected by the Diamond rules of a remade game, do I lose a little LP or a lot?
A:Imagine the game played out and your team lost, that’s how much LP you stand to lose.

Q: Why test /remake in NA?
A: With a brand new system, we’d prefer to keep live testing in the same language and time zone as the team building it. Test duration and location is a team-by-team decision, not a broad policy. Happily though, we’re aiming to ship /remake ‘round the world much sooner than later.
