How to Beat Quinn

Matchup Guide · Evergreen · 3 Counter Picks

Quinn jungles like a marksman who learned to fly: she hits you from range, bounces off you and is on the other side of the map before your laner has pinged.

Playing against her is frustrating because she never has to stand still. Vault [E] knocks you back and throws her 525 units away, and her ultimate turns her into the fastest thing on the map for ganks (Valor leaves you half blind on the way in). But she's a ranged champion with a marksman's health bar, and that kind of champion falls apart when something pins her in place or keeps up with her. Before you ban her, see where she sits on our solo queue tier list this patch.

Quinn Overview

Strengths: What Makes Her Dangerous

  • Her ganks come fast. Behind Enemy Lines [R] adds 70% to 130% movement speed with ghosting, so she crosses the map before anyone's warded for her.
  • Vault [E] engages and escapes at once. She dashes to you, knocks you back, slows you by 50% and leaps 525 units away again.
  • Valor half-blinds you. Blinding Assault [Q] cuts a champion's sight radius to 350 units for 1.75 seconds.
  • Her marks hit hard. Harrier [Passive] tags a target for bonus damage on her next attack, and consuming it gives her attack speed and movement speed through Heightened Senses [W].

Weaknesses: Where You Get In

  • She's squishy. Get on top of her and she's a marksman caught out of position (there's no shield or heal anywhere in her kit to fall back on).
  • Vault [E] is her only real escape. It's a targeted dash on a cooldown of 12 seconds at rank one, and when she's used it to go in she can't use it to leave.
  • Her ultimate is fragile. Behind Enemy Lines [R] needs a two-second channel, and any damage from a champion or a monster strips the speed boost for three seconds.
  • Crowd control grounds Valor. Getting immobilized or silenced ends the flight outright.

Countering Quinn

You only need one of these:

  • Reach past the dash. Vault [E] lands her 525 units away, and a dash that covers more than that means she hasn't actually escaped.
  • Silence or stun her before she flies. Behind Enemy Lines [R] breaks the moment she's immobilized or silenced, and so does her plan to leave.
  • Out-tank her early. All of her damage is physical, so armor from a champion's own kit goes a long way.

Already playing into her without one? You still have options.

Playing Into Quinn Without a Counter

Ward deep. Her ganks come in at a speed your laner can't react to, and a ward on her side of the river gives them the extra second or two they'll need to back off.

Hit her while she channels her ultimate. Two seconds is a long time, and even one poke there costs her the speed boost for three seconds (a minion's damage doesn't count, a champion's does).

When she uses Vault [E], don't chase straight backward. She's already 525 units away, and she'll be waiting for you to walk into her attacks (her own range is 525 too, so you'd be walking into it from the edge).

Best Quinn Counters

Three different ways to make her stay and fight.

Wukong champion icon

Wukong Follows the Vault

Vault [E] throws Quinn 525 units back, and Nimbus Strike [E] reaches 650. Wukong just goes after her, landing with bonus attack speed, and she's already used the only escape she's got.

His defense lines up with her damage too. Stone Skin [Passive] stacks armor every time he damages a champion (up to five times), and armor answers everything Quinn does. Once she's caught, Cyclone [R] knocks her up twice.

Cho'Gath champion icon

Cho'Gath Grounds Her

Feral Scream [W] silences for up to two seconds, and a silenced Quinn can't Vault [E] away or keep her ultimate going (Behind Enemy Lines [R] disbands on a silence). Rupture [Q] follows it up. It's a knock-up from 950 units that leaves her slowed by 60% when she lands, which is a long time for a champion who lives on moving.

Shyvana champion icon

Shyvana Runs Her Down

Inferno Aegis [W] shields Shyvana and gives her 25% movement speed, which rises to 43.75% while she's facing a visible enemy champion. Against a ranged champion trying to kite, that's the difference between catching up and not.

Dragon's Descent [R] closes the rest. She flies in with displacement immunity, so Vault [E]'s knockback can't push her off course, and Quinn's feared for 0.75 seconds where she lands.

Itemizing Against Quinn

Plated Steelcaps Randuin's Omen Frozen Heart Dead Man's Plate

Her damage comes through attacks, so Plated Steelcaps (10% off each one) and Frozen Heart (20% off her attack speed while she's near) both work all game. Randuin's Omen takes 30% off critical strikes and has an active that slows everyone around you by 70%, which is a way to keep her from leaving. Dead Man's Plate builds speed as you move and trims 15% off slows, Vault [E]'s included.
