SEASON 4 - PATCH 4.18 SOLO QUEUE TIER LIST
SEASON 4 UPDATE

This List has been updated, and new versions are available via this link

Preface Chatter
Workload finally died down a bit so I'll be updating much more in the upcoming days...hooray! This last patch featured a brand new Sion along with lots of nerfs on the most popular champions on the rift.

While it make take a while for the populace to get used to the fast evolving meta and champion changes, let's jump right into the list!
If you're looking for a more meta based tier list based on popularity, check out the FOTM list via this link!
Patch 4.18 Summary
Nerfs: Kha'Zix, Lucian, Tristana, Viktor, Wukong, Yasuo;
Buffs: Azir, Ezreal, Gangplank;
Tweaks: Sion, Akali;
Updates:
  • Removed Sion from mid lane
  • Added Master Yi/Jarvan mid lane
  • Oct 16:
    • Yasuo moved down to Tier 3
    • Tristana moved down to Tier 2, Lucian moved down to Tier 1
    • Malzahar moved up in Tier 1
  • Oct 17:
    • Added Kassadin Top
  • Oct 19:
    • Moved Lucian back up to God Tier
    • Moved Sona to #1 God Tier - Does as much damage as a "damage" support and heals + shields beyond reason. Her early game is a bit nerfed, but her late game is insane with athene's and/or morellonomicon, not to mention how simple she is to play...
  • Oct 24:
    • Malzahar and Talon moved down slightly
  • Nov 4:
    • Annie Mid moved up;

Instructions and Caveats:
  • Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
  • Champions UNDERLINED may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
  • Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
  • This tier list takes data from ALL players; however, since the majority of players fall in the first three tiers, the majority of data points will come from there.
  • Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength, but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
  • The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.

Champion Explanations
  • Azir [Tier 3 Mid]  - Azir! My second favorite champion design this year! Unfortunately he still seems to need a very high skill cap to use effectively. That being said, I think he's a strong champion that can yield decent results, but playing him at a normal level is still fairly ineffective for solo queue simply because of the coordination required and where he places himself during fights to be effective.
  • Braum [Tier 1 Support] - Braum is getting more and more effective as Blitzcrank becomes more and more popular (Thresh was always popular), as he does extremely well against them.
  • Fiddlesticks [God Tier Jungle] - Fiddle's making his comeback again, thank Riot for nerfing more assassins, and expect to see a serious spike in his win rate.
  • Jinx/ADCs in General [God Tier ADC] - After the nerfs on Lucian and Tristana, Jinx has become extremely powerful in comparison, as has Corki. A few other AD carries are also on the rise, but the rest are fairly balanced at the moment.
  • Karthus [Tier 2 Mid] - Although his win rate has spiked somewhat, with a very low play percentage it's hard to say he's that much better. The assassin nerfs definitely helped a ton though.
  • Kha'Zix [God Tier Jungle] - Despite nerfs he remains a strong pick.
  • Maokai [Tier 1 Jungle] - Still a very strong jungler overall, his carrying power in solo queue in losing games is just somewhat low comparatively speaking as his engage causes his team to lose the defensive buff.
  • Master Yi [Tier 3 Mid] - Master Yi is actually very strong mid, as most of the popular champions have some form of dodgable skillshot and his damage output is immense level 6. While it takes more skill and knowledge than normal, his ability to snowball off squishy mid laners is decent considering his sustain and juke power. He also has the added benefit of getting blue buff, which spikes his harass tremendously without having to build any cooldown.
  • Nautilus [Tier 1 Jungle] - Nautilus is very strong right now, as he scales hard defensively and more people are building ghostblade over blade of the ruined king.
  • Nunu [Tier 3 Jungle] - I have to admit I may have jumped on the world hype train with Nunu, he's actually not very good in solo queue.
  • Rammus [God Tier Jungle] - Rammus' "small" quality of life buffs have shot him above and beyond anything we ever expected, so far that even the sheep have turned their heads up to look.
  • Sion [Tier 2 Jungle] - Sion's jungle is surprisingly strong, and as most engages happen mid lane his late game ability is ideal. Meanwhile however, his early game isn't that great, and his pre-6 ganks are a bit lame.
  • Sona [God Tier Support] - Sona is incredibly strong right now, and doubly so against Janna, who suddenly shot up in popularity. If you're below platinum and have a choice between Janna and Sona I'd probably pick Sona, but Janna does provide more utility if enemy champions include people like Jarvan or Lee Sin.
  • Soraka [Tier 2 Support] - Calm down with the God tier requests, she's better but still not great.
  • Syndra [Tier 1 Mid] - Syndra is one of those insanely strong champions that's capped by skill. While she has the ability to beat pretty much anyone and everyone in lane, she also tends to get horribly mauled by players that are "better". I think she has a decent effort-to-benefit ratio right now, but she's really one of those all or nothing champions and has little in the way of coming back from being behind, but tends to get ahead against similar skill players 1v1.
  • Vel'koz [Tier 1 Mid] - Vel'koz is very very very strong right now. I'd honestly put him in God tier, but regulars on this tier list know what happened last time I tried that stunt.
  • Vi [Tier 1 Jungle] - Vi is still very good, but missing her dash pretty much ends the gank then and there, which can be difficult to land depending on how ready the enemy champion is for it.
  • Zilean [Tier 2 Mid]- Zilean's insanely strong in competitive team play, but in solo queue he's lacking a bit of carry ability due to his low range and lack of poke in a 5v5 situation.
  • Zyra [Tier 1 Support] - Zyra support does insane amounts of damage with no items. Although she's very skill reliant, depending on how well you can control the bush, she is an incredible asset to almost every team composition.

I think we'll start to see Sion's win rate on the rise. I really think he's going to become a very popular pick.

  2. Syndra in bold. Can you add explanation?

    ReplyDelete
  3. why is ezreal in tier 3, its so bad?

    ReplyDelete
  4. DarkofficerOctober 14, 2014

I think Ezreal and Twitch is tier 2. Soraka and Vayne tier 1. Orianna and top Kayle gods.

    ReplyDelete
  5. You mean after all those people whining about the nerf on Kha'zix and he's still god tier? XD

You really think Sona is a god tier support though? You had Braum up due to a rise in Blitzcrank which would knock sona down. I think you're a little lenient with who you give the title of "god" on this list. Still, I guess I'll start playing more Sona.

    ReplyDelete
  6. SSJSuntasticOctober 14, 2014

Sona actually does fairly well against Blitz as well, simply because she now gets the shield on her heal, and has insane poke that can punish him every time he misses his hook in lane. She's also extremely easy to play, and a fast pickup to gain Elo across all ranks at the moment.

Ezreal actually received a buff recently and should be higher, fixed!

which would be the best lane to play kayle in atm?

  11. I think that Yasuo is Tier 3. His win rate is the lowest (even under Urgot). The last nerf (50 base health and mobility) affected him so much. (-But if he feeds is GG). No! No is GG, Yasuo is very vulnerable before any mid. His snowball is powerful, and the Sejuani's AP snowball too. (Or LB, Garen JG, Evelynn or Quinn) He isn't strong, but people afraid...

  23. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

It boggles me how ziggs is now in tier 2, also its funny how champs such as katarina, Akali and Ahri are very high when Malzahar and Swain (who are lower) can tear their ass XD. Nautilus The CC train is back i might play him again. and SSJ plz provide your thoughts on the new Sion in a seperate page plz :D

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nautilus tier 1 baby :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ahhh I thought so haha

    ReplyDelete
  26. Not to mention all the counter picks, basically every mid mage, the awkward teamfights without reliable knock ups etc...

    ReplyDelete
  27. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

Why is ziggs tier 2 as i still think he is more superior to Velkoz. also SSJ can you provide your thoughts on the new sion in a new page plz :D

    ReplyDelete
  28. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

its fixed and tier 3 isnt bad it just requires more skill to do well

    ReplyDelete
  29. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

still has a lot of dmg output, 2 passives -_-, a shield which blocks most abilities and his base movement speed is beyond stupid. still bannning him

    ReplyDelete
  30. YAYYY A new tier list !!! YESSSS =)!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yup I agree with 85% of your choices. Jinx, hot damn she is doing great now, seeing jinx players rekking again.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well maybe not tier 3 but he should be located at the very bottom of Tier 2 to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  33. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

If she gets popular ill get Graves to the table :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Victorious UrgotOctober 14, 2014

Yasuo should be at the same tier to Kassadin. He's a complete bag of crap right now. Also, remove Tristana mid. After the nerfs she's not worthy of being in mid lane anymore. I think she should be at tier 1 imo since they nerfed her attack speed pretty hard. Caitlyn can now simply bully her to oblivion.

    ReplyDelete
  35. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

i've seen my mate play AP sejuani and i think its rediculously strong

  39. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

Ezreal is tier 2 (just been fixed), Twitch is bad to be honest, Soraka is not great, Vayne And Orianna require alot of skill and Kayle i think is bad top as i have shat on kayles top.

    ReplyDelete
  40. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

He has a fair bit of weaknesses that hold him back from there

    ReplyDelete

YAY let the Nautiness begin mwahahahhahahahahaha :D

    ReplyDelete
  42. BonafideBarnabusOctober 14, 2014

Yasuo still has a fair bit of strengths, i agree AP trist is bad now, i think Trist is still OP and seriously you can deal with cait easy as any champ even urgot.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Guerrilla XOctober 14, 2014

tristana being op is an illusion. shes only good if the team carrys her or if the game stalls out to 40 minutes

    ReplyDelete
  44. Guerrilla XOctober 14, 2014

cait is so easy to deal with u just dont go for cs that will get u poked. she also falls off into mid game if she doesnt get an item advantage so just try not to feed her kills and u will always outscale her mid game

    ReplyDelete
  45. Guerrilla XOctober 14, 2014

i think adcs will be the most happy about naughty boy since he offers peel cc and tankiness all in one #LetsgetNauty :)

  46. Michael ArcherOctober 14, 2014

Annie mid finally in tier 1, sick
Karma top/mid should be moved up a bit IMO, but Karma support in tier 2 is pretty deservant

  47. Matias Ignacio Araneda ArayaOctober 14, 2014

    Fizz tier 2??

    ReplyDelete
  48. Crazy for NigriOctober 14, 2014

Welp please Riot don't touch my Jinx ._.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Out of curiosity, why did Annie go to Tier 1 from Tier 2?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes! Finally Annie moving up in the world! :D Sad to see ziggs move down, I think he is still amazing in solo queue. Also, check out cho'gath, and shaco, I think they are really strong personally, Also I think galio is god-tier worthy if you look at the amount of mages in all roles at god-tier to tier-1, He's really strong when AD assassins and hypercarries are being nerfed out of favour. Lastly try AP corki, It's a Mobile Ap kog'maw v2.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Karma top is essentially a better lulu IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  52. SONA GOD TIER WHERE IS SHADOWSECT????????

    ReplyDelete
  53. Where is Sion top?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Karma support is so gud rite nhao.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Josh ThurlowOctober 14, 2014

He's in Tier 3. Between Vayne and Mord. I almost thought he'd get a Tier 2 ranking top... But I play him Jungle so I couldn't say how strong top is.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Tier 2 really isn't a bad thing. Being balanced/viable is a good thing. In fact, it also means that Riot is probably less likely to bring the nerf bat out on your favorite champions. In addition there is usually 1 or 2 small things that the champion has to deal with (such as somewhat of a high learning curve for Fizz to learn how to correctly bounce out of and around damage).

    ReplyDelete
  57. Mister ApolloOctober 14, 2014

The fact Vi still isn't God tier baffles me she is way better than fiddle and Warwick. Her kit is amazing period. Gap closer, dps w heal, aoe, and knockup/gapcloser. Her flash q's still remain one of the most powerful forms of a non ult gank. She can be built multiple ways to suit your teams needs and it never really takes away from her. There is a reason you see Vi picked so often by lcs players in solo Q because she can carry. Top 5 junglers right now > J4, Lee sin, Elise, Khazix, Vi. Those are also the most commonly chosen champions in world's for jungle and lcs pros in solo q.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Michael ArcherOctober 15, 2014

I'd say it's a slightly worse version of lulu because lulu has better AA harass, but aside from that they're both almost the same

    ReplyDelete
  59. Michael ArcherOctober 15, 2014

"Most commonly chosen champions in world's and lcs pros in solo q"
Too bad it's a bronze-gold solo queue tier list. Also, Elise is horrid in solo queue right now.
If you want most commonly chosen champs go look at the FOTM tier list

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have three things I want to say;

    1. You might want to add Kassadin top to the list soon, probably as a tier 3 only because he is such a good counter to Ryze, the strongest top laner imo. Plus, with more players playing more AP top laners, I think Kassadin deserves to be mentioned as a top laner now.

    2. I really question Fiora as god status top laner. To me, she is a champion that counters or gets countered in champion select (counters Yasuo and Jayce but gets countered hard by Malphite and Jax). Therefore, I see her getting picked when the matchup is in her favor rather than seeing her getting first picked. Plus, if you gank her early as she has no escape, she can be quite useless if she doesn't snowball. But I guess you can't deny a 55% win rate.

    3. How is Sona god tier and Nami tier 2. Nami does everything that Sona does but better imo. She has heals and poke like Sona but Nami can also disengage/engage pre-lvl 6 with her bubble. Sona practically is good for heals pre-6 until she gets her ultimate. Even then, I find Nami's ultimate more useful than Sona's ultimate. Plus, the win rates between both champions are very minimal. Also, doesn't Sona has the lowest base health out of every champion? Land one good CC on her and you will at least get a flash from her.

    ReplyDelete
  61. She probably won't get nerfed until Riots nerf Corki, Lucian, and Trist more. Then,

    ReplyDelete
  62. Can anyone recommend me a top laner that excels in teamfights? I currently play Renekton and Garen, but I'd love to have a top laner that is in Tier God/1. I know neither Garen or Renekton excels in tfs, but Garen was my first top laner, and Renekton is my favorite. I absolutley love Shen, but since I'm currently unranked, I really doubt I have "higher knowledge/skill". Any help would be extremely appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  63. SSJSuntasticOctober 15, 2014

I think that playing Malphite might be up your alley, he's got a decent laning phase with his free shield, has good harass, and his ultimate is absolutely awesome for teamfights. He's also fairly quick to pick up, give him a whirl!

    ReplyDelete
  64. SSJSuntasticOctober 15, 2014

She was actually God Tier for about 5 patches in a row, decided to move her down this patch, but eh, I'll probably move her back up. She does have strong come-from-behind potential just because of the things you mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Moakai is also a pretty good toplaner that lives for teamfights. His appearance in the LCS is due to his great team-fighting presence with his ult. A flash + root makes for a good team initiation if your team is ready.

    ReplyDelete
  66. SSJSuntasticOctober 15, 2014

She's been doing very well lately with all the assassin nerfs.

    ReplyDelete
  67. but thats just like your opinion man

    ReplyDelete
  68. OH YES! LUCIAN IS STILL GOD TIER! PLZ DONT MOVE MA BOI DOWN!

    ReplyDelete
  69. And I think that Yasuo should be Tier 3 since he has been nerfed so much his early game is trash now

    ReplyDelete
  70. RUMBLE BABY! He may be kind of difficult but his potential in teamfights is the strongest out of any top laner. His carrying power is imense and you are still pretty tanky so if your fed they are done. Cons are that his early game is terrible so if you can get your jungler to camp you and u get the first kill, the game is over.

    ReplyDelete
  71. KingoftheSocksOctober 15, 2014

Nunu is a mid laner now is he. His explanation certainly thinks so.

    Also Ziggs tier 2 :(

    ReplyDelete
  72. Bruh! Damage isnt everything and when damage junglers keep getting nerfed, tank junglers take their place in God Tier. I agree with you on Warwick but the junglers you mentioned Lee Sin, Elise, Vi all require an immense level of skill in order to be played properly. IMO Sejuani is a much better version of Vi atm because they have a simlar gap closer but Sejuani also provides a 70% 2.5 sec slow(like that isnt op), and her ult decimates teamfights with a large AoE stun. Vi does have better catch potential but in the current meta of teamfight heavy, peel for the ADC team compositions, Sejuani is the much better option here.

    ReplyDelete
  73. SSJ I'd like to know your opinion on Quinn as an ADC, with the range buff she is getting next patch and the fact that she has a blind present in her kit as well as some poke I think she will get out of tier 3 adc very soon. What holds Quinn back from being a good adc? Please tell me SSJ, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  74. ty for pointing out Ziggs for me now im gonna rage:

Y DID U MOVE MY LITTLE INSANE PSYCHOTIC SQUIRREL DOWN TO TIER 2! He has insane scaling into late game and even though his Q is really expensive, once u get a blue buff, BOMBS AWAY! You are also missing that he is the safest of all the mages in LoL. With all of these points in mind: late game, large range, and huge safety, you could say that he was the Tristana of Mid. I understand that he isnt God Tier due to nerfs but he is still definately better than Anivia.

    ReplyDelete
  75. bcus_of_luxOctober 15, 2014

    So lets talk Gangplank.
-he needs to move up in rank for top:
Though is early game isn't, its not half bad either, and his ability passively make extra gold allows him to snow ball items quickly. He also has the ability to make gold off assists and kills at a global standpoint post lvl6. His passive damage increase from his E + his effectiveness with even a single Crit item (like Avarice Blade) makes his damage early/mid game rival Fiora's. The team buff that he gives with his E mid game makes most skirmishes a breeze with a competent team in the mid- late game, and his ult (especially after the recent buff) also attributes to team fight victories. His late game damage after building an infinity edge is borderline insane, making duels with any champions, set aside full tanks quick and easy. If he is far enough ahead his damage can be enough to one his any adc with just his Q. On top of all that he is by far one of the easiest champions to stay in lane with thanks to his W. Finally, his skill cap is extremely low in comparison to other top laners. Buy no means am I suggesting he should be move to god or even tier 1, but his placement in tier 2 seems low in comparison the other champions there.

    -Possibly add to midlane:
I have never played him in nor seen him played in mid lane, but his ability to stack on damage quickly, and sustain himself with his W, I feel he would make a strong stance in the midlane. Also his passive movement speed from his E would make him a pain in the ass to his with skill shot+his ability to nullify slows with his W.

    -Jungle....ehh:
I think I understand why he is in tier 4... Though maybe that will change with the buff to his R.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I was skeptical of this at first but after looking at his 44% win rate(worse than Olaf btw), I can definately agree with Tier 3.

    ReplyDelete
  77. KingoftheSocksOctober 15, 2014

Also fiddle diddle is so damn good and so damn easy to play that he deserves his spot. Strong early ganks, the best jungle sustain, late game clears times on all camps is about 1 second. Also one the best ultimates in the game

i do admit that seju is much hard to use...

  79. Quinn is bad she needs a rework or to fix her abilities cuz sometimes passive doesnt work right her e too ult is on long cooldown and u becomer melee her aa is weird too passive doesnt always proc when i should so tier 2 at most

    ReplyDelete
  80. In response to 4, it comes down mainly to ease of play, as its a solo-queue tier list. Even post-rework, Sona is very facerolly (only skillshot is the ult), so playing her is simply a matter of good positioning. Plus, playing Sona well rarely requires anything more than a basic level of cooperation with her ADC.

Nami is more difficult to utilize to full potential. Her heal is less effective than Sona's at low health, unless you can bounce it to heal more people. Her Q, which is essential to begin a trade/kill in lane, is a hard-to-hit skillshot if your opponents are competent. If you do land it, there is a good chance that without voice communication, your ADC is unprepared to follow up before the CC ends.

Definitely agree on this. I highly recommend Maokai if you want a strong team oriented top laner, plus he is a lane bully just like renekton. Which is a style you're used to I'm guessing.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Josh ThurlowOctober 15, 2014

Don't always look towards LCS picks to backup Solo Queue picks. Yes, Vi is strong. I guess it's just if you miss your Q, the gank is over (pre-6). Fiddle has decent pre-6 ganks. Fear, silence, and a sustained damage ability. Post-6 is so dangerous. I agree she is better than WW though. But as said towards the LCS picks: Lee Sin and Elise... they require so much skill to play. Elise is strong, like, really strong. With such a versatile build path too, she just requires so much from the player. Same as Lee Sin. Lee is chosen in LCS because he's a great play maker.

  87. I think Zed is in God Tier or Tier 1 because he is one of the Best assassins right now. He has a burst, wave clear and much mobility with historischen w and ult(and a huge disengage with r). By the way, all the pros Player him very much.

Twitch is strong too...But you said he needs more Skill so i agree(he has no escape so he needs abetter positionin)but if u have Skill historischen potential to assassinatetargets is huge.

Ive been playing azir since his release and i must say that those buffs really gave him a helping hand.
I have 100% win rate with him in ranked since the patch and i played with him likely more than 10 games.
He is indeed a high skillcap champion but in the right hands he can be really effective.

    ReplyDelete
  89. BoltOfSpadesOctober 15, 2014

Fizz's main issue is that his gap closer, main damage ability, wave clear, and escape are all mapped to the same key, which I can't say is good in lower elos where wards are less commonplace. Meanwhile, tank junglers that can soak his damage up with ease and cc-lock him are getting even more popular, which also hurts him, because if Fizz gets any cc landed on him, he tends to die. Quickly.

  94. i think ezreal is gonna get to tier 1 soon. he would still not have an amazing win rate but the buffs are sure strong amazing + nerfs to the huge adcs like tristana and lucian makes him even more viable now. ezreal + graves + sivir gonna get more pick rate soon i'm calling it.

I play a lot of darius and wukong top. Rumble is a good pick. Also I believe that Orianna is a solid pick in all the lanes. She has nice wave clear and CC.

    ReplyDelete
  96. you forgot the most important thing. her kit is for an assassin not a ranged ad carry. simple.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Heimerdenger top is very bad i mean how is he in tier 1.. ahead of nasus rengar and jax.. he should ceertainly be in 2 or 3 maybe. There are much better top lane ap champs why heim

    ReplyDelete
  98. Because they are balanced/viable. They aren't necessarily OP, but they aren't bad. This means that you can pick them and it's not a big deal, so I don't really understand the problem. Basically as long as your favorite champion isn't in tier 4 it's not a big deal. Plus most of the time this tier list is to help give people a new idea for a champion to pick up, not necessarily a champion they already have picked up and have somewhat mastered. Champions at closer to full mastery would change the tier list. Especially since some of the higher knowledge/skill to play, or harder to master champions can have higher game impact when played correctly, but average players haven't put in the time to get those results.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Well most tops actually don't know how to lane against a Heimerdenger which means you just put your turrets up and win lane. So champions that are lane bullies tend to do well in solo Q. It's kind of cheesy but it's similar to how some of the other off-meta picks like Malzahar can be really strong just because other people aren't used to them. Plus Nasus and Jax would lose lane/farm to a Heimerdenger because of the lane bullying he's able to do, which being zoned off minions makes it so the late game champs are delayed a lot. Thus if you lose lane and are a late game champion you don't have the same impact.

    ReplyDelete

I still think she shouldn't be god tier anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  101. TIME TO RUMBLEEEEE!
    He is the TFs yordle

    ReplyDelete
  102. 1. I agree Kass top is in a pretty solid place right now. You're able to farm up a lot easier top lane than mid at the moment, and late game Kass is still late game Kass, so if you can free farm and get to your RoA you start to get scary. Plus starting in top lane is basically like a mid that becomes split push Kass only you start that way. So yes highly recommended, though as you say maybe tier 3 (although in the right hands can be a huge late game monster), plus for the "OMG it was played by a pro, a lot of Koreans are pulling out top Kass as a counter for Ryze and other AP tops like you said".

    4. I more or less agree (but I suppose part of that is I'm a fairly big fan of Nami), but I will say in terms of this tier list that Sona does have a lower learning curve. So learning to Sona is pretty easy as you just have to be in range to use your Aura's to do things. With Nami bubble and heal are both skill shots. While you can learn to do them, there is a little bit of a learning curve. So only in the "this tier list is for people picking up a new champion" I would say Sona is easier, but champion mastery wise I would definitely go for Nami over Sona.

    ReplyDelete
  103. tier 2,tier 1 is too high for a carry who need to snowball early but his damage isn't enough for do it

  106. I don't really understand why people call this tier list for Bronze-Gold. When you hit platinum do Jinx, Corki, Ahri, Katarina, and Amumu and pretty much everyone else become unviable. I just don't really understand or see where this idea comes from.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yeah this is more for lower elo and MOST importantly SOLO queue (or duo queue). Higher rank's people just are good so they know how to play against amumu and katarina, etc.

I'd agree except that I feel malphite is really useless in teamfights outside of his ult compared to other tops. I'd go with wukong, maokai, or even renekton. A good renekton is very strong and can do a lot in teeamfights. He may be more of a tank but he isn't a split pusher and excels in midgame fights.

    ReplyDelete

  119. I think that new Viktor is underrated...He got an extremely versatile and powerful kit that can counter most of the midlaners. Further, his potential on tf is absolutely insane with 2 high dmg aoe spells and a global CC. For sure, he is not one of the easiest champ to master, but he is extremely fun and rewarding. Any thoughts about that?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Yes, Sejuani AP is to strong. Tier 1 probaly in low elo (Silver and gold) However in diamond she is a tier 5. She is my secret weapon for ranked.

Returning to Yasuo, sorry for what I said before... He isn't Tier 3 in any way. He is Tier 4. (Between Soraka-Janna).

*Any mid can win against Yasuo.
*He is very very very very squishy, like Heimerdinger or worse...
*He doesn't have high damage, burst or poke. If he gets close, he is free kill.
*He depends absolutely of jungler. And if the jungler isn't Rammus, Amumu, Jarvan, Sejuani -or someone similar- they will do nothing.
*At present the early junglers with early ganks are the best junglers. For them Yasuo is a free kill, well if your midlaner is a Brand, Syndra, Zyra, Ahri, Orianna, Vel'koz, etc. HE IS DEAD. Whenever he is not under the tower, he is dead.

I've been playing Sion support and it's very fun. His raw stats and w allow him to stand in lane and soak damage when going on the attack around level 4, while his q and e allow for decent cc, and once 6, he can really tear it up when the jungler comes to gank, or even soak up some damage while the adc runs and then he can ult out of there for a clean escape. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  122. could be viable, main problem is that sion is still mana hungry and using shield will lead you oom and q is easily dodgeabe

Going Sion support makes you completely waste one of the biggest factors in him being relevant late game. Killing minions = increased max health. Support = no cs.
You can start off tanky but you won't stay that way.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I agree that lux is extremely safe pick, but I saw a lot of bad Syndra out in these days....I think Syndra is really difficult to play effective. Anyway I agree that vik is another difficult champ to master, but now he is also extremely versatile in the way you could build him thx to the high ap and utility his passive gives him e.g. it s pretty easy to reach late game with 700 ap and a tanky build...

    ReplyDelete
  127. It's a Bronze-Gold tier list in the sense that it is accounting for average player knowledge, average player mechanics, and average teammates. As you start reaching Gold 1+ you have a minimum skill threshold and game knowledge required to be at that ranking. This skill and knowledge change the balance of how tiers rank out. For example, if you have the mechanics to play a champion like Vayne or Ezreal then it changes how those champions would be ranked.
While you in Bronze or Silver you can have a huge advantage playing some less common picks that most people have never played against. The first time you play against a Cass you quickly learn don't stand in the poison. Yet as you get to Gold + you have much fewer new champion matchups to learn and also just understand the game better so you can still survive.
So while Corki, etc are still good at higher levels, it changes how other champions are viewed. A classic example, is the Lee Sin Jungle where you see tons of pros making huge mechanical skill driven plays, but most bronze level junglers can't do that or if they can their team doesn't know what to do. Therefore, in Bronze, Lee Sin might not be the best jungler to play for the average jungler. Hence this guide takes that into account.

tl;dr: Bronze-Gold takes into account game knowledge and mechanical skills. Higher ranks still play good champions they just play them better OR they also play other champions that require higher skill caps to be good at.

When he's annoying he's really annoying, and I've seen some people on NA with absurd stats on him, but I think that for most players he's fairly balanced since he doesn't have the range to stay safe if he falls behind through either bad trades or jungle ganks.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Sorry, I meant support. That was a late edit.

    ReplyDelete
  160. SSJSuntasticOctober 15, 2014

Oh a support I don't find him to be as helpful as I'd expect, most of the popular supports have enough sustain through either their own skills, shields, or targon to shrug off his full early game mana pool, and he needs to get pretty close in order to use his damage. His late game utility is good, but more often than not whoever he uses it on uses their escapes and ends up dying after his ult runs out.

    ReplyDelete
  161. He's my secondary when it comes to support nowadays is all. Usually do him with Tristana, as the synergy is really helpful the closer it gets to late game.
That being said, his early game requires a lot of potions, dodges from Morgana/Janna skillshots, and no mistakes.

In terms of pure teamfight damage, Twitch has probably the highest damage output out of all ADCs.

But, in exchange, he probably also has the worst laning phase of all ADCs as well.

Learning Twitch is one of my current projects, and I can say that he's definitely a niche pick. If you can communicate well with your support (read: duo queue + curse voice/skype/etc...) and your team caters to protecting Twitch and/or massive AOE CC, you can do very well. He is much weaker to assassins than many other hyper-carries, like Tristana and Vayne.

Another interesting thing about Twitch is if you opt for an early Blade of the Ruined King, he becomes a very functional mid-game assassin who's capable of getting himself fed if your support (all supports playing with a Twitch who wants to roam ought to be getting Sightstones) is warding enough.

I think he's Tier 2 at the moment. Not quite the consistent late-game hyper-carry that Tristana is, and not lane-dominant in the slightest.

    ReplyDelete
  164. wukong onlyOctober 15, 2014

twitch late game mediocre? this a joke? I mean imo he is clearly tier 3 but still.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Nicolas CageOctober 15, 2014

It's not really about them becoming unviable, generally. Jinx and Corki, among the others you mentioned, are still very solid choices at higher levels of play, though still weaker than champions like Tristana.

I'll use Amumu as an example of champions that succeed relatively less at higher ELOs. Amumu's dueling capacity is fairly limited among junglers, and at higher levels of play where you will see a lot of stronger duelists, you run some risks in picking Amumu. Champions with more simplistic patterns of play, including Amumu, also tend to be less useful at higher levels of play because of their ability to be countered through playstyle alone.

Amumu isn't the best example because of the extreme utility offered by his ult, and his overall ability to carry a game is very high, but he still does follow the pattern described above, and suffers because of it.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Nicolas CageOctober 15, 2014

  184. Why did fizz move down?

    ReplyDelete
  185. Nicolas CageOctober 15, 2014

After his nerfs, he isn't really much of a lane-bully any more.

I think he's not really too threatening at the moment until he has 3 items or so, generally, like most hyper-carries.

Where Kog'Maw stands out is having probably the best overall poke of any ADC, and having extremely consistent, strong damage output on single targets with quite a bit of range when his W is active. While this does mean he's very strong at dealing damage in general, he's by far the most vulnerable ADC in the game, with no real escape/defensive CC options, and isn't too far ahead of champions like Tristana in damage ouput, who bring a slew of other advantages.

I think he's a better fit for the middle of Tier 2, since he's a bit inconsistent in terms of his ability to reliably do well.

  194. Yeah guys. I just think he is not good and I hate him! When he is on my team I hate gnarr!!! There's many more potent top laners, for carrying.

Even overall, he is not that good in the current metuh (meta) and his boomerang throw should be buffed btw, it would make a huge improvement on him, and slightly raise his base Attack DMG, his base AD is 6th lowest out of all champions and his AD/lvl is Mediocre or slightly below mediocre. He belongs in tier 2 definitely in my opinion. Middle of tier 2 maybe.

But I think everyone should bully vayne in lane.

  197. his boomerang has a low cooldown. And Mega gnar has sufficient atk damage. People just dont know how to control his transformation that well. If you master that, gnar is a good champion.
