Instructions and Caveats:

  • Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
  • Champions UNDERLINED may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
  • Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
  • This tier list takes data from ALL players; however, since the majority of players fall in the first three tiers, the majority of data points will come from there.
  • Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength, but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
  • The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.

Champion Explanations

  • Cassiopeia [Tier 2 Top] - In the current meta with both powerful poke based champions and assassins with strong out-playing abilities being the norm, Cassiopeia lands in somewhat of a rough spot as a mid-range caster when she's mid lane. However, top lane she can still opt for a tanky RoA + Rylai + Liandries build, while all the while cheesing on the many melee champions that frequent the lane.
  • Darius [Tier 2 Top] - The new changes to Darius and complete overhaul of his core items seems to be taking a toll on him at the moment. I think he's definitely still viable, but his statistics won't reflect it until players begin to realize what he can and can't do.
  • Fiora [God Tier Top] - The newest edition of Fiora started off at a rocky state, but after the hotfixes to her kit, she's quickly risen to the top of the solo queue ladder. Being a very difficult to dive champion, she plays similar to an improved Irelia. Just when you think you have her beat, she quickly turns the tables in an insanely strong fashion with heals and spell negation galore. Fiora currently has an extremely high play rate and win rate at pretty much all divisions, which is quite unusual for a champion this complex.
  • Fizz [Tier 1 Jungle] - Jungle Fizz is doing quite well lately and plays similar to an Ekko with higher damage and less utility. He also synergizes well with the large number of diving champions that are popular on the rift at the moment, especially with the buffs on assassins.
  • Gangplank [Tier 1 Top] - A somewhat obvious change to many solo queuers, Gangplank is definitely one of the strongest champions on the rift at the moment in top lane. With his powerful barrels and Trinity Force + Infinity Edge build, he deals a surprisingly high amount of damage while remaining fairly difficult to take down as a result of his remove scurvy spell.
  • Garen [Tier 1 Top] - Garen's showing some mixed stats at the moment depending on which divisions you're playing at, but he's definitely much stronger than he was before his rework. His passive modifier on his ultimate makes him incredibly strong late game as a champion that now deals percentage based true damage. Talk about a power creep!
  • Kog'Maw (AP) [Tier 2 Mid] - Kog'Maw as a mid laner is still viable, but significantly reduced in strength with all the buffs to assassins that Riot decided would make the game more functionally interesting.
  • Lissandra [Tier 1 Mid/Top] - The latests buffs to Lissandra give her a much larger window to escape after jumping into the center of teamfights. Apparently, this was just the thing she needed to become strong again. We'll likely see a lot more of her soon both mid and top as a short cooldown lane bully.
  • Malphite [God Tier Top] - With Vayne, Jinx, and Sivir still dominating the rift, it's no wonder that Malphite is finding so much success on the rift. While his laning phase is definitely punishable by some more aggressive champions, his ultimate and attack speed reduction are still nearly unavoidable at most divisions.
  • Mordekaiser [Tier 2 ADC] - I'll give Mordekaiser the benefit of the doubt as an ADC as I've definitely seen what double relic shield can do. However, I'm not ready to accept his high winrate as much more than bot laners not taking him seriously enough.
  • Nidalee [Tier 2 Jungle] - A late move from patch 5.15, Nidalee's jungle prowess seems to be significantly more balanced after the few numbers tweaks that they put on her spear and vision radius on her W.
  • Rammus [Tier 1 Jungle] - The increased armor and W damage that Rammus provides is actually fairly decent. I think he's in a good place right now and can definitely carry games if he gets ahead.
  • Shen [Tier 1 Top] - When Shen first became strong again, he was definitely extremely powerful. He could easily gank unsuspecting lanes and pick up easy double kill baits. However, a few weeks after he regained popularity, the general populace is now wise to his tricks and makes sure to either try to not get baited, or top laners make sure to stun him out of his teleport at all costs.
  • Skarner [God Tier Jungle] - There's a lot I can say about Skarner, but in a nutshell his near global speed boost presence is absolutely insane and he's definitely the strongest jungler at the moment.

  • The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for champion selection.
