In the newest rendition of the FOTM tier list, common favorites like Azir and Kassadin have dropped significantly in the popularity contest whereas newcomers like Fizz are rapidly gaining popularity.

SEASON 5 - April - PATCH 5.7 FOTM TIER LIST
"THE POPULAR KIDS"

Preface Chatter

Hi everyone! I didn't realize how long it's been since I've updated the FOTM list, it seems like every time I turn the corner a new patch is ready to be released!

For those of you still waiting on the Twisted Treeline list, I have a challenger player that volunteered to do it, but it's been a long time; I'll likely update it soon by myself. Can't find good help these days...

Anyway, as a quick recap, Sejuani's still leading the pack as the most feared jungler on the rift, Shyvana's making a comeback with some new summoner spells, and Support Nautilus is now a "thing". Check out the full scoop below!

The purpose of the "Flavor of the Month" ("FOTM") list is to show which champions are popular in today's metagame, so you can learn how to beat them!
If you're looking for the regular solo queue tier list, be sure to check it out via this link!
For a list of champions with the highest *potential* in the game without regard to difficulty or team synergies, check out the list of strongest potential champions in each position!

Instructions and Caveats:
  • This tier list details which champions are most popular in today's current metagame, for better or for worse. Selecting a high popularity champion and doing mediocre is always favorable to selecting a low tier champion and doing mediocre for team morale.

Champion Explanations

  • Cho'Gath [Tier 1 Mid] - A newcomer to the mid lane FOTM, he's the only champion left with a serious silence and a very serious one it is. With its huge AOE range combined with Cho'gath's naturally immense burst damage, CC, and sustain, he's become a serious threat as a mid-laner in the new tank meta.
  • Evelynn [Tier 2 Jungle] - Recent buffs to Evelynn combined with a high playrate in URF mode have brought new life to this champion's popularity, and expect to start seeing more and more of her soon.
  • Fizz [Tier 3 Mid] - "Nerfed" to be more ad-centric, Fizz is back in action mid lane. While he's only "playable" at the moment, expect him to slowly climb up as he falls off Riot's radar.
  • Gragas [Tier 1 Jungle] - The Sejuani "replacement" since she's consistently banned, Gragas is a popular back-up choice for many Sejuani mains as a strong jungler with good CC, initiation, and tankiness. Poor Amumu is still unloved.
  • Nautilus [Tier 1 Support] - Recent buffs to Nautilus have brought him back into action with the introduction of Cinderhulk. However, playing Nautilus in the jungle has reminded players what fun it is to hook people in general, so we're seeing a lot more of him in a support role as well now.
  • Nidalee [God Tier Jungle] - Despite not fitting in with the current tank meta and being nerfed, Nidalee jungle remains popular in the hands of many junglers who enjoy her fast paced tricky play. Likewise, many people hate her fast paced tricky play and ban her out of spite.
  • Pantheon [Tier 1 Jungle] - One of the few "burst" type junglers that does well in this current meta, his initiation and CC abilities remain sought after.
  • Sejuani [God Tier Jungle] - Despite being nerfed several times, she remains the most hotly contested pick on the rift.
  • Urgot [Tier 2 Mid] - After seeing some pro play recently, Urgot's steadily climbing the popularity ranks, even with that face only a mother could love.
  • Vi [Tier 1 Jungle] - Next to Pantheon, Vi is another of the handful of surviving burst damage type junglers that still do well in this meta. She can also opt for a more tank-like role and build Cinderhulk as well, but that isn't nearly as fun.

Dont you thin that Lissandra still a better pick than Vladimir?

  2. Dragonblade TalonApril 14, 2015

To the team definitely, but if you already have an initiator then it's Vladimir with his damage increasing ultimate.

and why Garen tier 3 top?

  4. Remember that this is what the people think not actually what is best.
Can't remember last time I saw a garen in solo queu

I think that Kog'maw AP should be high in this list.

  6. Howdo you build LuLu top?

  7. I really hate these ads with audio.

Being honest, I think Mid lane Swain should be higher than top lane FOTM wise. I main Swain, and prefer to play him top, but even at not awful Elos, I often get greeted with the likes of "Why are you going Swain top!?" or people locking in a top lane choice thinking I am going mid.

I think that is more because swain isn't that common of a pick (not to say he isn't powerful, he is). People just see mage and think mid.

  10. Urgot is played as ADC also (at least in terms of position, not itemization)

Notice how bard is nowhere to be seen.

I find this amusing although I don't think bard is as weak as everybody else seems to think.

I do disagree with bard not being included at all though, I mean we have poppy, galio, and leblanc support and I've never even seen those whereas I've seen quite a few bards lately.

    Agreed, added him in

He's in there, moved him up a bit though.

Do you remember which one it was specifically?

  15. Athene's, Ionian boots, Lich Bane, Zhonya's, Deathcap, Void (or switch one to a def item)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Not sure if you are playing the items in terms of when you build them, but I disagree with that. I usually build her with Morello > Ionian > Deathcap > Void > Zhonyas > Lich Bane(in that order).

I think you meant to say "ap-centric" in reference to fizz's changes.

    Soin support. Check it please

    ReplyDelete
  19. I wasn't, of course order of the items often changes in game, and Morello-Athene's is just preference.

  20. Sorry for the late reply. I got sick. But either way, I don't think it's gonna help since those ads were on a different language, Bahasa Malaysia to be exact - I live in Malaysia.

But there were two ads with audio and it plays automatically. I think, one was related to food and the other I completely forgot what it was. You're the best SSJ.

  21. Bard is hard to use effectively without good team communication, which makes him bad in solo queue..... Magical Journeys are the best though. I always go on them no matter what :D

  23. Why is reneton tier 2? I think is a good pick in low elo.
I'm gold lV, I'm not a pro player, but I think that renek should be tier 1.
    I can be wrong.

I'm currently on the good old nasus trail, and so far going strong, just stack that Q and build tank, life steal quints and away you go.

  25. Hello SSJ. Thank you for all the great articles and LoL wisdom.
I have found Bronze success playing Viktor support under certain conditions. Mainly because it is so much fun. If jungle and top are tanks or one tank and bruiser it works. I have found the best synergy with amumu, sej, sion and no more than 1 other ap champ.
I found the best use with 21-0-9 as bot becomes a high pressure lane. I only get frost fang then augment death. Depending on opponents comp I rush Morellos or ryalis. I take flash and exhaust.
It may sound underwhelming but with nerfs to morg I think vik sup is the new bronze morg. B)
Try it out. It works really well with jinx and ashe. But it still works with other adcs too. It is high risk/high reward. The key is to poke until first augment which then becomes extremely strong poke.
I think it is at the least tier 3 and potentially t2 with the perfect conditions. Please try it out! Enjoy

  26. Just a general question - why is Elise top not played?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Brandon PursifullApril 19, 2015

This list isn't about usefulness, but rather popularity.

I am just pointing out that it is much more common to see a bard support than some other support picks that are STILL higher up on the list such as fiddlesticks, nunu, and gragas.

No particular reason, she used to be played top when she first came out, but range nerfs dropped her out of the spot.

To all of you saying "champion x should be in tier y", FOTM means favorite of the month, which is based on most summoners and not only on YOU. So before you post "champion x should be in tier y", say "favorite of the month three times."

  33. Bro. You forgot one crucial thing, necessary to all supports - sightstone.

    Seriously, don't go without.
