Draw Your Sword
Patch 26.19Draw Your Sword turns a marksman into a melee fighter and pays them in stats for every unit of range they give up. On the right champion it wins games. On Kayle it quietly deletes the best part of her kit.
What Draw Your Sword Does
It's a Prismatic augment, and it's only offered to ranged champions. Take it and your attack range drops to 200 for the rest of the game (plus any bonus range you pick up from other augments). In exchange you get 24% more attack damage and health, 20% more attack speed and movement speed, and 20% life steal.
Those bonuses grow with how much range your champion had to begin with. Anyone at 500 range or less gets the base numbers. From 500 up to 650 they climb, and a champion with 650 range gets double. It also won't be offered if you've already built Runaan's Hurricane, and since Patch 26.18 it's excluded from the random pools, so King Me, Pandora's Box and the Transmute augments can't hand it to you by accident.
Who Actually Gets What
| Champion | Default range | Draw Your Sword bonuses |
|---|---|---|
| Graves | 425 | Base values |
| Samira, Lucian | 500 | Base values |
| Corki, Draven, Ezreal, Jhin, Zeri | 550 | About a third higher |
| Senna | 600 | About two thirds higher |
| Caitlyn | 650 | Double |
Here's what I didn't expect. Graves and Samira are two of the champions who take Draw Your Sword most often, and neither gets a single point of the range bonus. It doesn't matter. Both already fight at arm's length, so going to 200 range costs them almost nothing, and the flat package of damage, health and life steal is plenty on a champion who was going to be in melee anyway.
Caitlyn is the opposite case. She gives up the most and gets the most back, which turns the marksman with the longest default range into a fast, tanky duelist with double stats. Corki, Draven and Ezreal round out the usual takers. The builds that do best with it go for fighter items, Death's Dance and Bloodthirster most of all, since the augment's life steal and extra health make standing in melee survivable.
The Kayle Problem
Kayle starts every game as a melee champion and spends it waiting for Divine Ascent [Passive] to make her ranged at level 6. Everything about how she's played builds toward that moment. Draw Your Sword ends it. Riot fixed a bug back in Patch 25.22 where Kayle kept her range after taking the augment, so she now stays melee for the whole game, exactly as the augment says.
She doesn't get paid much for it either. Her default range is melee range, well under 500, so she only ever gets the base bonuses. You end up with a Kayle who scales toward ranged attacks she'll never receive, holding stats a Graves would get from the same pick. If it shows up on your screen as Kayle, take one of the other two.
