High Roller ARAM Mayhem: Why the Augment Feels Useless Now

ARAM Mayhem Augments

High Roller After 26.19

Patch 26.19

High Roller used to be the Prismatic you picked and then forgot about until Stat Anvils started piling up at your feet. Two cuts in two patches later, plenty of games end without it dropping a single one.

What High Roller Does

When an enemy dies near you, High Roller gives it a small chance to drop a Stat Anvil on the spot where it fell. You don't need the kill or even the assist. Being close is enough (a support hanging back behind the fight qualifies). Walk over the anvil and it's yours.

Champion deaths roll the full chance and other units roll at half of it, so the anvils you actually see come out of teamfights.

An anvil you pick up doesn't open right away, either. It waits until the shop is available again, which in ARAM means after your next death. That delay is a big part of why the augment feels dead in a close game: you can be carrying two anvils through a fight and get nothing from them until the fight is already over.

What's inside a Stat Anvil

Each anvil opens a choice of stat shards, and every shard in that choice shares one random tier: Silver, Gold or Prismatic. A Gold shard is a flat stat like 35 attack damage or 375 health. The Prismatic shards are the ones you can't buy anywhere else, such as armor penetration or bonus critical strike damage.

In the shop an anvil costs 750 gold and needs level 9, which is why getting them for free felt like such a steal.

What Changed in 26.18 and 26.19

Patch 26.19's notes say High Roller's drop rate was "further reduced". Riot didn't give a number, and "further" is carrying more weight than it looks, because the 26.18 notes never mentioned High Roller at all.

Both cuts show up in the mode's game files. The drop value sat at 1.5 from 26.14 through 26.17, dropped to 1.0 in 26.18 and to 0.5 in 26.19. That's a third of the old rate, gone in about two weeks. I'd assumed the 26.19 line was the whole nerf, so finding a second, quieter cut a patch earlier was the part that surprised me.

None of this is a bug. Patch 26.17 fixed the one real problem High Roller had, where it failed to trigger on certain champions. What players are running into on 26.19 is the augment working exactly as written, at a third of the rate they remember.

Should You Still Take It?

Only as your first augment. High Roller trades an effect you'd feel today for a trickle of stats later, and at a third of its old rate it needs the whole game to add up to anything. Offered at level 11 or 15 it's close to a blank slot.

It also wants a champion who is standing near every death and survives to collect the anvil afterward, which is a marksman's job description in ARAM. A diving assassin who trades their life for a kill is the worst holder, since the anvil lands where they died.

Every screen in Mayhem offers three augments of the same tier, so High Roller is always competing with two other Prismatics. If either of them changes how your champion plays the moment you pick it, take that one. High Roller is the pick when nothing else on the screen fits.
