Objective bounties judge the team rather than the player, need a full minute of being behind before they arrive, and vanish the instant you take the lead.

Objective Bounties

The Comeback Gold

Objective bounties are the only comeback system in League that doesn't care who on your team is behind. One fed enemy doesn't trigger them. A losing scoreboard does.

Nothing happens before fourteen minutes

Objective bounties exist only on Summoner's Rift and can't activate before 14:00 no matter how badly the game has gone.

So the disastrous first ten minutes you're trying to recover from gives you nothing back until well after it's finished happening (four minutes after, at the earliest).

Four things decide eligibility, and gold dominates

Team gold, team experience, epic monsters taken and turrets destroyed. Gold carries by far the most weight, and the exact thresholds are deliberately hidden.

Then there's a delay: bounties activate 60 seconds after your team drops below the line. A brief dip doesn't count, because the system is looking for a sustained deficit. One lost teamfight never turns them on by itself. A lost teamfight followed by a minute of not recovering does.

Taking the lead switches them off instantly

Go ahead at any point while bounties are running and every one of them deactivates immediately, with no grace period in that direction. A big fight that flips the game can cost you the objective gold you were about to collect from it.

Narrowing the gap without taking the lead works differently. The bounties linger for up to 30 seconds (scaled to how close the deficit still is), and you can claim exactly one more during that window. Claim it and they end; let the timer expire and they end anyway. Either way, take the objective you can actually finish rather than the one you'd rather have.

A floor plus a share of the gap

Every marked objective has a baseline value, and on top of that it pays roughly 10% of the gold difference between the two teams.

That makes them worth the most exactly when they're hardest to take, and worth very little in the games where you were only a bit behind. No single objective bounty pays more than 1,000 gold (200 per player) however far behind you are, so past a roughly 5,000 gold deficit the share of the gap stops growing and only the baseline separates one objective from another.

Those baselines are not what most players would guess:

ObjectiveBaseline bonus
Dragons and Elder Dragon500 gold
Rift Herald500 gold
Inner turrets400 gold
Nexus turrets400 gold
Baron Nashor300 gold
Outer turrets250 gold

Baron pays the smallest baseline of the lot, below a dragon and below an inner turret. It's still the objective that wins games, but if you're picking purely on comeback gold it's the wrong one to force.

The payout splits evenly across all five of you, and nobody has to be there for it. You don't need the last hit, you don't need to be in range, you can be dead, and a turret finished off by minions while your team is on the other side of the map still pays everybody. The system rewards a team that can still contest objectives and does nothing for one that can't leave base.

One side effect worth planning around. While objective bounties are live, your own team's shutdown gold is switched off completely, so the enemy collects nothing extra for killing your fed player during that window.

Frequently asked questions

When do objective bounties activate?

No earlier than 14:00, and only after your team has been behind for a full minute.

What makes a team eligible?

Team gold, experience, epic monsters and turrets, with gold weighted heaviest.

Why did the bounties disappear?

Your team took the lead, which ends them instantly, or you closed the gap and spent the single claim in the grace window.

How much are they worth?

A baseline value plus about 10% of the gold difference between the teams.

Is there a cap on an objective bounty?

Yes, 1,000 gold for any single objective, split evenly among all five players whether or not they were there.

Do objective bounties exist in ARAM?

No, they're Summoner's Rift only.

The short version

They're a team system on a delay, so play the minute after a bad fight rather than the fight itself, and when the window is closing take the objective you can secure rather than the biggest one on the map.
