SEASON 3 - PATCH 3.0.4 SOLO QUEUE TIER LIST
Preface Chatter
Couple of nerfs and buffs came through last patch so I'm updating the tier list again. Just a few minor tweaks.
The Tier List
Tier 1: Rumble, Twisted Fate, Taric, Amumu, Jarvan IV, Hecarim, Miss Fortune, Elise, Nidalee, Fiddlesticks, Xin Zhao, Zyra, Jax, Shen, Darius, Garen, Vi, Blitzcrank, Sona, Cho'gath, Singed, Lee Sin, Shaco, Malphite, Karthus, Graves, Draven, Ezreal, Kayle, Lux, Akali, Kha'Zix
Tier 2: Twitch, Nasus, Katarina, Varus, Volibear, Nocturne, Evelynn, Orianna, Diana, Caitlyn, Talon, Maokai, Kassadin, Vayne, Ryze, Swain, Pantheon, Jayce, Lulu, Thresh, Wukong, Irelia, Renekton, Zed, Riven, Olaf, Cassiopeia, Ahri, Morgana, Rammus, Nautilus, Tristana, Vladimir, Kennen, Leona, Janna, Udyr, Anivia, Kog'Maw,
Tier 3: Tryndamere, Yorick, Sejuani, Master Yi, Xerath, Teemo, Dr. Mundo, Sivir, Syndra, Malzahar, Annie, Quinn, Corki, Ashe, Mordekaiser, Brand, Gragas, Soraka, Fizz, Skarner, Nunu, Galio, Viktor, Shyvana, Warwick
Tier 4: Zilean, Alistar, Veigar, Nami, Sion, Rengar, Gangplank, Urgot, Heimerdinger, Ziggs, Trundle, Poppy, Leblanc, Fiora, Karma
- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions in Italics may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
- Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
Champion Explanations
- Lulu - In draft mode I'd say Lulu is definitely tier 1 support material, but in solo queue it's hard to make that big an impact unless you're on voice chat.
- Singed - The nerfs impacted his overall damage on tankiness very hard. I think his strategy is still very easy to execute though, so I'm leaving him as tier 1 for now.
- Swain - I think Swain is extremely powerful right now. He's not as bursty as other champions, but with the nerfs to some other popular champions I think he's much more viable than before.
- Thresh - Same as Lulu, he's got amazing utility, but a lot of his potential is still untapped.
- Tryndamere - The blade nerfs hurt him more than I thought they would.
- Viktor - He's still not that good, but I'll give him some points since he's remained untouched while others have been nerfed, increasing his overall viability.
- Volibear - With the nerfs to all the major junglers, Volibear is really starting to shine as a super tanky jungler with plenty of CC.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for champion selection.

Any comments on the Taric as a support after the nerf?
ReplyDeletecant wait to see where karma jumps after her rework hits live servers. ive been playing her on the PBE and her new utility is ridiculous she will easily be one of the top tier supports. stun + slow + shield nuke = OP
ReplyDeleteHi Shih, I think Taric's still completely viable and extremely powerful in terms of utility. He might be getting moved down a little later as good supports move away from him, but at the moment his win rate is still amazing.
ReplyDeleteIs Zyra listed so high as support or AP mid, and where would you place both of them?
ReplyDeleteIs Zyra listed for her AP or support role or both? Is one better than the other?
ReplyDeleteHi Arcs, I think her support is stronger than her AP mid at the moment, but they both bring some insane utility to the team.
ReplyDeleteI'm relatively new to LoL, however I play as singed and usually dominate. Just out of curiosity, what's your reasoning behind Rumble being #1 ? It's surprising because I've yet to come across somebody to play as him. Thanks
ReplyDeleteAmazing laning, Amazing ultimate, Amazing teamfighting, Amazing ratios (when heat in danger zone). Well executed rumble simply carries and wins games. Watch few games with Zakkers playing Rumble and you'll know why he's #1 ;)
ReplyDeleteAs always a good list. Love the frequent updates. Keep up the good work
ReplyDeleteI dont think you realised rumble's ult got nerf hard, no more flat dmg upon landing...
ReplyDeleteRumble nerf was only on the PBE, or did it actually come through as a ninja nerf?
ReplyDeleteI think that zed needs to be moved up to tier 1 (: He is being played in almost all games in tournaments and his dmg output is quite high right now. Shaco doesnt deserve to be in tier 1, i think that the last nerfs hit him really hard. Same goes for nid, yes her ap rocks, but she isnt as tanky as before which gives her hard time in the game. This is just how i see it, if u think otherwise reply (:
ReplyDeleteSinged got nerf but also a bugfix. His poison only tick twice before the patch. Now it ticks three times. So his poison got a buff that compensates for the Fling nerf. He has actually a better early game now.
ReplyDeletePretty sure it's only on the PBE at the moment, and either way he still has the highest win percentage at the moment :)
ReplyDeleteHi Dante, you bring up a lot of good points, and I wouldn't be 100% opposed to moving Zed up or Nidalee and Shaco down a little. However it would be an extremely minor movement for the following reasons:
ReplyDeleteZed might have a lot of potential in the right hands, but for the majority of players he doesn't make a big enough impact to be Tier 1 for solo queue in my opinion.
Shaco's still extremely powerful, I'll admit I personally haven't played him for a while, but whenever I do it's terrifying. He's also got one of the highest win rates in solo queue.
Nidalee is so niche it's hard to say she's not Tier 1 just because of the raw amount of solo queue potential she has. Just by landing a spear or two she can change the entire flow of the game. She's still extremely hard to catch, although like you said, if she's caught she dies a lot faster now.
Thanks Alexander!
ReplyDeleteKarl that's a good point, I figure the tenacity nerf would hurt his late game a lot, but I guess if you never get caught then it never becomes an issue...
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to wait and see =]
ReplyDeleteIs Elise tier 1 in both Jungling and Top Laning? Cause I'm thinking of buying her since she is very strong at the moment and my main roles are Jungling and Top.
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot, what can you say about the Jarvan nerfs?
ReplyDeleteI must ask why Jax is kinda high. What is special with Jax have over, say, some tier 2 other all-in duelists like Pantheon, or top laners like Renekton.
ReplyDeleteI see twitch is getting inched up slowly :) But may I ask why sejuani is tier 3? Her late game tanking is insane and pretty easy too, her ultimate always catches the other team off guard as well.
ReplyDeleteSince they removed the armor buff his utility into teamfights dropped quite alot. The standard was basically 40-88 armor for your team in every teamfight. This said J4 still has a good kit but imho he's definately not the best jungler anymore :j
ReplyDeleteElise shines in the top lane, but there are much better junglers out there.
ReplyDeleteProbably because you need to be flameproof when picking her :)
ReplyDeleteIt was only on the PBE as they also removed it there. Which does mean they are probably looking for another way to nerf him.
ReplyDeleteHis late game is way better than theirs. and around lvl 16 if your another melee....you cant duel jax.He can jump to wards, stun multiple people and he has an ult that gives him mr and armor.
ReplyDeleteIs Jax tier 1 for top or jungle?
ReplyDeleteWheres leona?
ReplyDeleteEnd of Tier 2
ReplyDeleteI would have to say Syndra should be moved up to Tier 2 at least. I am not really sure as to why she has a low win ratio. She's easy to play and her damage output is just ridiculous. She brings tons of utility to team fights especially when you build a rylai's and her ultimate combo will take out an ADC no matter how fed they are if you have put a decent amount of gold into your AP. I've picked her up and won most games while almost always going positive and getting fed.
ReplyDeletezyra mid o zyra support tier 1 ?
ReplyDeleteI really feel like Sejuani needs another look. I've done a lot of testing with her, and she's just starting to feel like a stronger amumu at this point. I am currently 15W-2L with her in ranked, 1 due to an afk. Her kit is absolutely amazing. She's low because she's not played, but at this point I would rather play her than amumu. Amazing ulti, good damage, tanky, awesome CC and soooo much slow power. I've actually had people surrender because of me which I find funny because at the beginning most people laugh that I even picked her.
ReplyDeleteMid
ReplyDelete(N.B: Support still fine but after nerf of damages on plant shots makes her less efficient as a support)
We need to see more :) i feel new Trundle gonna steal her credits :(
ReplyDeleteZyra mid > Tier 1
ReplyDeleteZyra support > Somewhere in Tier2 maximum
why is nidalee above lux ? im not argueing, just want insight thx
ReplyDeleteNo, it is implemented
ReplyDeletewhy evelynn tier 2 ? :) i think she is tier 3 or 4
ReplyDeleteWELL, I am obviously in tier 1 because I dont really need a att. speed item due to my passive, so I become really strong late game. Also, my passive from ult takes down turrets sooooo fast.
ReplyDeleteLast but not least, I have a leap that could leap to allies and enemies, and stun that could change that 1v1 in top lane. WORD
Hi Karl, Elise is better in top lane, not sure where I'd put her as a jungler. The Jarvan nerfs hurt him a lot.
ReplyDeleteJax is a late-game hypercarry that does well early-mid. His utility is also very high.
ReplyDeleteSejuani might be due for a moveup since all the other junglers are getting nerfed. On the other hand, after a teammate misses her ultimate just once facepalms all around.
ReplyDeleteJax is tier 1 for top. His jungle's not that great since he needs farm to be the late game monster that he is.
ReplyDeleteSyndra's very easy to get a lot of kills with, but she always seems to fall off and fail late game. Meanwhile with other champions like say Diana, with 15 kills she's much more of a serious threat than a Syndra with 15.
ReplyDeleteI put her tier 1 with her mid in mind, but I'd say she's Tier 1 support as well. Her utility is insane.
ReplyDeleteWith all the nerfs to the other junglers she very well might need a second look.
ReplyDeleteNidalee's much harder to kill and has burst that's manaless and not skillshot reliant. At the end of the battle she can clean up hard.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I think that someone comes along and reminds me why a good Evelynn is the scariest thing in the world.
ReplyDeleteI'd easily place Lulu on Tier 1 even in solo queue. She's a great champion with incredible high harass early game. Not to mention the massive CC she has. Silence, speed up, extra AD/AP, AOE knockup that gives HP, shield and a poke that gives true sight for a while. I'm nearly always getting my ADC fed with this little support.
ReplyDeleteFizz in tier 3? I thought he'd be in tier 1 or 2 at least.
ReplyDeleteHey I recently play WW a lot and I believe that with Botrk Warwick is much higher then tier3. I have 23W 4 L in solo Q with him.
ReplyDeleteCan anybody explain me the #2 Twisted Faith? Don't wanna be rude or question it, just wondering what/how makes him good. Awesome tier list non the less.
ReplyDeleteexplain to me this she is tier 1 mid yet i beat her as ad trnd in the mid
ReplyDeletei aslo beat him with ad trynd mid to i dont understand
ReplyDeletehey ss where would you place a sejuani support because i play her with my friend that mains twitch and we bully lanes pretty hard
ReplyDeletei agree if you have a good adc friends try playing her support and can you help me with my sej jungle
ReplyDeleteI feel Leona should be moved up to tier 1. What makes her in tier 2 instead? I think she's a great support.
ReplyDeleteI think the major problem with Leblanc is that she can get bullied around very easily by strong waveclear, and her projectile speed gives plenty of heroes enough time to blow her up since she's squishy. For those that can land her chain, Leblanc can be extremely effective, but for the majority of players she takes to long to master for an average amount of power.
ReplyDeleteNot many people play Nami, which allows her to still land her bubble on people who aren't used to dodging, which gives her a slight advantage being unique. On the other hand, if you're expecting it, then Nami's bubble is by far the most unreliable CC compared to other supports.
ReplyDeleteOf course if you can land it, then yes she's amazingly broken. On the other hand, missing it also means for the good supports it's time to fry some fish.
She's got a lot of utility for sure, the problem is generally once again synchronizing poke with your AD carry in solo queue. If you don't manage to synchronize, it's too easy for you to take a 2v1 trade and lose lane without sustain.
ReplyDeleteFizz is good, but relies on kills to snowball. His waveclear also depends on him using his escape mechanism, which drops his usefulness.
ReplyDeleteWarwick is fairly strong, but that's also because he's not in style right now, so people don't realize they need to build quicksilver sash on their ad carry.
ReplyDeleteTwisted Fate has some ridiculously short cooldowns, strong map presence, and with Twin Shadows can chase down half the enemy team by himself.
ReplyDeleteI went 14-3 with jungle nidalee against a jungle hecarim, Tier lists are for players of equal skill.
ReplyDeleteLeona commits too hard. On the other hand, with the Taric nerfs in place she's much stronger than before.
ReplyDeleteSejuani support relies a lot on the element of surprise since nobody's used to playing against it. She's very tanky and has good CC. I'd say it works against people who try and trade with her.
ReplyDeleteexplain to me why you are not yet challenger traveling around the world to play competition and living on league of legend product?
ReplyDelete"Player Skill!"
same issue here...
THANKS SSJ !
ReplyDeleteCan show you countless replay if you want of different players in Silver and Gold playing it and winning hard early/mid going 18/5 or 10/3 for example and getting nuked late game by cc and combo burst from enemy team...players getting convinced with a good score they are untouchable...
ReplyDeleteNow i get why i lost my last ranked game...
ReplyDeletegreat work on the tier list! Just wondering why ryze is in tier 2 though, former champ tpa toyz said he believes ryze to be the most op mid champ right now, his laning phase isn't great but he can still snowball with a gank.
ReplyDeleteOh and where can you get the statistics of champion win ratios? Thanks!
Hi John, I think Ryze is good, but he's a little more towards the average side. Most people don't have the reflexes or coordination to maximize his damage despite how most say he's a "facerolll" champion. He needs a lot of decision making since the ranges on his spells vary, and maximizing his Q rotation varies dependent on his cooldown reduction.
ReplyDeleteMost people use this for their statistics: http://www.lolking.net/champions/
Trundle is a Tier 2 Jungle at the least, he has nice clear time, he's a good tank late game that makes the other tank useless and he is a great nuisance for the enemies ADC.
ReplyDeleteYou clearly just don't play him enough.
personally i changed games around with poppy so many times. The passive. it's op. Take ults to the face with 200 health all day. Best ganks also. When you tower dive with her ult during a teamfight, people see the tower hitting you and thus they focus you. This allows you to teamfight on top of the enemy's turret without having anyone take damage, including yourself. BEST GANKS EVER
ReplyDeleteWhy is Gangplank tier 4? 0_o Everybody i talked to thinks he's pretty good right now..
ReplyDeletemakes sense but try ad trynd mid with life steal quints it works well only counter i can think of is teemo it might be better than you think
ReplyDeletewhat do you mean by try and trade with her in early game i use by w to burn through adcs and let mine pick off the kills so then a little bit later when a real support would be better i have a fed adc
ReplyDeleteHe's getting moved up in the next update to the tier list =]
ReplyDeleteMaybe Early game but the more you build up to your Core (Rab+Lich) the more your impact in mid/late will decrease whatever you do with Trynda since strongest point with TF is Move Speed and CC's
ReplyDelete
