Chinese Rumble in the Jungle
SEASON 3 - PATCH 3.0.3  SOLO QUEUE TIER LIST #2

Preface Chatter
The Blade of the Ruined King nerfs made a couple champions (especially Tryndamere) considerably weaker, so I figured it was a good time to update the tier list.

I know I've been slacking a little on replying to comments, but I promise I'll try harder (work sucks...) As usual, I've redirected the old tier list to this one to keep us all on the same page :) I've also changed the navigation to go straight to this page, (sorry if it was frustrating seeing all the old pages you can't access.)

The Tier List
Tier 1: Rumble, Singed, Twisted Fate, Taric, Amumu, Jarvan IV, Hecarim, Miss Fortune, Elise, Nidalee, Fiddlesticks, Xin Zhao, Zyra, Jax, Shen, Darius, Garen, Vi, Blitzcrank, Sona, Cho'gath, Lee Sin, Shaco, Malphite, Karthus, Graves, Draven, Ezreal, Kayle, Lux, Akali, Kha'Zix

Tier 2: Twitch, Nasus, Katarina, Varus, Nocturne, Evelynn, Orianna, Diana, Caitlyn, Talon, Maokai, Kassadin, Vayne, Ryze, Pantheon, Jayce, Lulu, Wukong, Irelia, Quinn, Renekton, Zed, Riven, Tryndamere, Olaf, Cassiopeia, Ahri, Morgana, Rammus, Nautilus, Tristana, Vladimir, Kennen, Leona, Janna, Udyr, Anivia, Master Yi

Tier 3: Swain, Yorick, Xerath, Sejuani, Teemo, Dr. Mundo, Thresh, Sivir, Syndra, Malzahar, Annie, Corki, Ashe,  Mordekaiser, Brand, Gragas, Soraka, Skarner, Nunu, Galio, Kog'Maw, Shyvana, Fizz, Zilean, Warwick

Tier 4: Alistar, Veigar, Viktor, Nami, Sion, Rengar, Gangplank, Urgot, Heimerdinger, Ziggs, Trundle, Volibear, Poppy, Leblanc, Fiora, Karma
  • Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
  • Champions in Italics may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
  • Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.

Champion Explanations
  • Akali - Akali's extremely good at snowballing both top and mid lane very very hard. She's got a super easy time sustaining in lane ever since the changes to her passive, and at level 6 a double Q combo pretty much outtrades everyone, especially with her shroud.
  • Draven - Draven's outrageously strong right now, but I'm hesitent about moving him higher since I'm a little biased when it comes to AD carries.
  • Ezreal - The iceborn gauntlet nerfs from 3.0.2 are starting to show as more good players realize that other AD carries are stronger at the moment. He's still strong, but no longer the one man wrecking crew he used to be.
  • Jarvan IV - Since the nerfs to Xin, Jarvan is stronger than ever, especially since he never relied on Blade of the Ruined King to be powerful.
  • Katarina - Katarina's still very strong, but a lot of AD champions mid give her some issues.
  • Swain - I honestly think that Swain is hidden OP right now and could easily hang with the Tier 2 or Tier 1 champions. The main issue of course is the skill gap in which most people don't use his snare properly. As we all know, a missed CC is no CC.
  • Taric - Taric might actually be stronger after his "nerfs"...
  • Tryndamere - As I mentioned before, the Blade of the Ruined King nerfs have made it so that he's no longer immovable in lane, and a moveable Tryndamere is a dead Tryndamere.
  • Warwick - I think he's a little stronger than I've been giving him credit for and his ultimate is still pretty game-breaking at times.
  • Xin Zhao - He's definitely weaker than before, but I'd say he's still very powerful. I'd much rather have him on my team than the enemy team, that's for sure.

  1. Great list. Amumu is sad he's not number one.

Really liking the composition of your Tiers. What impact do you think the incoming wave of Akali nerfs will have on her placement?

  3. I am unaware of why you have Thresh and Nunu in Tier 3. They should at least be in Tier 2, since they have incredible CC. Thresh can change games with his Q and E plus his W with the "flyovers" you can do with allied champions. It is very easy to play him as well. I believe he deserves to be in Tier 2. Just saying.
Nunu could be a little higher as well, as he has a lot of sustain from level 1 - jungling and supporting. His Q makes him untouchable if you just fight near enemy minions. Really. You can't touch a Nunu that knows how to play. His E is very over powering if you stack it with AP. No enemies can outrun you and nobody can kill you if you go tanky.
Also I am unsure of why Volibear is in Tier 4. As far as I see it, he is still pretty good. Okay I'll admit it. he is not a blitzcrank, however his throw is game changing as well. I know "somebody" said his cooldowns are too high and you won't get ganks without them. But hey! Warwick is Tier 3. He relies on his R and without that he is nothing. Let them swap positions at least.
I am just asking, as I am unaware. Don't take it personally.

  4. is tier 1 the best or tier 4?

  5. Gangplank StyleMarch 14, 2013

Probably we can evaluate that once Riot reveals how they'll nerf her shroud. :D

  6. Gangplank StyleMarch 14, 2013

This is a solo queue tier list. So that kinda explains why guys like Volibear and Thresh (and I must mention, Urgot) are weak because they require your entire team to be on point, something you cannot possibly expect in Solo Queue but you can expect this in arranged team/competitive play.

I must mention Volibear, who is not a Blitzcrank and definitely not a Singed. Flip is all he really has, and if you're gonna be a melee bruiser you might as well use someone else with faster gap closers and better slows and good sustain..

Not sure about Ziggs and Leblanc, but there are

  7. Alright, I was just curious. But you can not assume that your team is retarded in ranked solo queue. Just saying if you are ranked, you should be able to think and know at least 70 percentage of the champions abilities and what that can do. So therefore I think it is kind of .. Yeah.

As Gangplank Style mentioned, it's hard to say without knowing exactly what they're doing to her. Once we get a clearer picture then it'll be easier to see :)

Hi TheMooseOwns, a lot of the heroes you mentioned such as Ziggs, Leblanc, and Thresh are all fairly high skillcap champions compared to others. This means that yes, if you can land all their skillshots they'll have a good return.

On the other hand, with champions like these, it's very possible that your enemy just happens to be better than you, which means that your usefulness diminishes greatly. Compare that to a champion like Singed, where you can go 0-5 in lane and still be an unstoppable force 15 minutes later.

I agree than Thresh is very likely to move up soon as people practice more with him and the general population can synergize/take full advantage of what he offers. On the other hand, many people still have trouble syncing with Lulu in solo queue without some sort of voice chat.

Nunu used to be very strong, but he was nerfed pretty hard in patch 3.0.1, reducing his win rate to some abysmal levels. This combined with the fact that Taric is in 55% of the games really makes it hard to justify taking him off the bench to fight against Taric bot lane or Hecarim/Jarvan in the jungle.

Lastly, Volibear: He's likely getting moved up to Tier 3 in the next update, but I just feel his attack pattern is very one-dimensional and easily opens itself up to counter play. After the recent nerfs to Xin Zhao and Vi we might see Volibear getting much more play. Once Jarvan gets hit with a few nerfs Volibear might start being much stronger in comparison.

It's all relative. Hopefully This answers some of your questions!

  10. Psssst *whisper* he moved up Tristana ...no body noticed! Ninja Style!

  11. SSJSuntasticMarch 14, 2013

Hi David, sometimes I move champions around without taking particular note of it if the reasons behind it aren't particularly thought-provoking.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Okay so it is just idiot proof champions in Tier 1. I get it now xD
I just think that even though champions are skillshot based, they should still be in their right place. - If not, you shouldn't call it a Solo Queue Tier List; more of a idiot proof guide to solo queue picks.

    ReplyDelete
  13. SSJSuntasticMarch 14, 2013

It's not that, it's just that as you move up the solo queue ladder, even if you're continuously playing at your best, you'll eventually run into people that are better than you or just happen to outplay you.

Gaining elo is all about consistency, so high tier champions are champions that can still easily turn the tides of the game, even when the chips are down.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Alright, thanks for helping. - I haven't reached level 30 yet, so therefore I am just curious of the whole tier list. I mean, it is good to have it to get a basic understanding of whom to take a deeper look at, but I wouldn't follow it blindly.
    Thanks a lot.

  15. Hey! You are ranking Graves before draven/ez/cait, any particular reason? :j

    ReplyDelete
  16. Because Graves is a more AD based champion. He is just stronger. Not a lot, just a nudge.

    ReplyDelete
  17. According to your list, Draven is already in Tier. How can you possibly rank him higher?

    ReplyDelete
  18. why cho gath in tier 1 ^^ ?

    ReplyDelete
  19. What do you generally think about botrk now? Is it still worth buying?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't think you give enough credit to Riven.

She's top of tier 2, to me.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No worry bro im kinda glad you saw some bright sight over Tristana ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. SSJSuntasticMarch 14, 2013

I just think Graves is more consistent and requires less skill to do more damage at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  23. SSJSuntasticMarch 14, 2013

He can always go higher but he'll never be Rumble...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rumble should have his own tier actually. Insane laner, insane lategame, insane carry for Solo Q. Only reason he hasn't been nerfed is because he's underplayed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Damn I called that Jarvan Tier 1 a while ago ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why can't I see old Tier list posts anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  27. uuhh rengar tier 5? under rated much?

    ReplyDelete
  28. SSJSuntasticMarch 16, 2013

    That you did Alex :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. SSJSuntasticMarch 16, 2013

She's still strong WindAeris, but I don't think she's by any means OP anymore with her nerfs.

    ReplyDelete
  30. SSJSuntasticMarch 16, 2013

Hi Dannov, it's kinda of a search engine thing...they don't show my most recent post at the top, so some people click in to some super old tier lists and go "wat eve tier 1" and just leave :x To prevent that I just redirect it to the most recent one. It also keeps the conversation going on the same page :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. SSJSuntasticMarch 16, 2013

Hi Bumbaquee, I've definitely seen some Rengars do well, but when it comes to late game a lot of them are very prone to getting shut down by kiting. He's also got a somewhat absurdly low win rate in solo queue at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 44.73% for 3% of game played its the virus i call FOTM in which profit Elise Kayle Vi etc...I already mentionned that to SSJ and i just think he will move him up next time like he did for some other forgotten champions (ex: Warwick :) )
I see him more Tier 3 maximum Tier 2 since he isnt like Vi Xin Jarvan Lee who are doing great or approx late game Rengar its more like assasin champ as a Shaco which use the environement too much.

    ReplyDelete
  33. IMO they balanced the price/benefit of the item which turn decent but not a must anymore! Its still a great item if League of Warmog...its more an item for bruiser/jungler now but not anymore adc best interest.
Lets wait for SSJ answer :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. SSJSuntasticMarch 16, 2013

Whoops, I thought I answered this one already, thanks for the reminder David. @Infint, Blade of the Ruined King is still very good (even early) for champions like Tristana or Caitlyn who rely on their autoattacks to deal the majority of their damage all game.

On the other hand, on champions like Graves who deals most of his damage early through spells, I think Bloodthirster is still a better bet. Either way, I think bloodthirster will be the safer choice as a first item.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was wondering why Varus was up so high in the list. To me he seems a lot more inferior to Caitlyn and Vayne. He has his ult, but that's an easy cleanse.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bishop DawsonMarch 17, 2013

    Volibear t4 don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  37. SSJSuntasticMarch 17, 2013

Hi Newt, it's mostly because his laning phase is brutal and his passive lets him snowball very hard during teamfights. Naturally, his ultimate is pretty game-changing as well.

    ReplyDelete
  38. SSJSuntasticMarch 17, 2013

Hi Bishop, Volibear's getting moved up next update to the list :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. kha'zix the weakest tier 1 champ? anybody care to explain, since that confuses me a little tbh.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 69NicolasCage69March 17, 2013

Why is Yorick so low on the list? Last I checked, he was one of the best top-lanes in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey, do you think Nidalee is still tier 1 after her cougar form nerfs. In my opinion the nerfs hurt pretty hard as you now tend to die as soon as you go to combo someone at close range. Her spears are still OP but still incredibly difficult to land.

    ReplyDelete
  42. SSJSuntasticMarch 17, 2013

Hi Alec, I think AP Nidalee is still very strong after the cougar nerfs since her main strategy is still the same (spears). She definitely doesn't trade as hard in lane though, so I think she will be somewhat lowered in the list next update.

    ReplyDelete
  43. trist should go up. Most reliable lategame carry. Huge range, mobile, steroid and safe ult.

Still don't see how fiddle can be this high btw. He is in no way "consistent" tbh

    ReplyDelete
  44. More details please >_>

    ReplyDelete
  45. Jungle Cho: Great Sustain, Good clear time, Great ganks (if he lands Q), flexible builds, Teamfight presence.

    ReplyDelete
  46. and Newt to add up on Sun's post he's an utility carry, so yes he should be inferior to Cait and Vayne, both being hard carries.

    ReplyDelete
  47. your lack of reaction to my question regarding kha'zix makes it pretty obvious that you don't have a clue why you put him there, you just did.

    ReplyDelete
  48. AllahModeEngageMarch 19, 2013

Viktor still T4. Honestly have you even played him?

    ReplyDelete
  49. What do you think about the taric nerfs? Should he be tier 2 now?

    ReplyDelete
  50. SSJSuntasticMarch 19, 2013

Fiddle has the ability to be consistently game changing. At almost any given point in the game, a single well placed ultimate can win the game.

Trist will be moved up next update. Her laning phase is still weaker than others though.

    ReplyDelete
  51. SSJSuntasticMarch 19, 2013

Yes I have and he's inconsistent. He's also got some very rough match ups against common fotm champs.

    ReplyDelete
  52. SSJSuntasticMarch 19, 2013

I actually just didn't see it. Kha is indeed a subjective placement. His win rate isn't stellar and he has to land some kills to realize his damage potential. I also see him as a bit squishy for someone who jumps into the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  53. SSJSuntasticMarch 19, 2013

I'll have to wait and see, it's only been a day. It's definitely a substantial nerf though.
