Chinese Classic Tryndamere
SEASON 3 - PATCH 3.0.3  SOLO QUEUE TIER LIST

Preface Chatter
In this patch, we learn that Riot no longer remembers what "nerfing" means and instead, appears to think that "nerfing" means making champions stronger than they were before.

The Tier List
Tier 1: Amumu, Rumble, Tryndamere, Singed, Xin Zhao, Twisted Fate, Taric, Hecarim, Miss Fortune, Elise, Nidalee, Katarina, Fiddlesticks, Zyra, Shaco, Jax, Shen, Darius, Garen, Ezreal, Vi, Lee Sin, Blitzcrank, Sona, Cho'gath, Malphite, Karthus, Graves, Draven, Kayle, Lux, Kha'Zix

Tier 2: Nasus, Varus, Twitch, Jarvan IV, Nocturne, Evelynn, Akali, Orianna, Diana, Caitlyn, Talon, Lulu, Kassadin, Vayne, Maokai, Ryze, Pantheon, Jayce, Wukong, Irelia, Quinn, Renekton, Zed, Riven, Olaf, Cassiopeia, Ahri, Morgana, Rammus,  Nautilus, Tristana, Vladimir, Kennen, Leona, Janna, Udyr, Anivia, Master Yi

Tier 3: Swain, Xerath, Sejuani, Dr. Mundo, Thresh, Sivir, Yorick, Syndra, Annie, Corki, Ashe,  Mordekaiser, Brand, Gragas, Teemo, Soraka, Skarner, Nunu, Galio, Kog'Maw, Malzahar, Shyvana, Fizz, Zilean

Tier 4: Alistar, Warwick, Veigar, Viktor, Nami, Sion, Rengar, Gangplank, Urgot, Heimerdinger, Ziggs, Trundle, Volibear, Poppy, Leblanc, Fiora, Karma

  • Heroes in BOLD I will talk about shortly
  • Heroes in Italics may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
  • Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these heroes are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.

Hero Explanations
  • Diana - Diana's very strong right now in the current meta, and tends to do very well against popular AP carries like Twisted Fate. She's basically like an AOE Akali with mana.
  • Hecarim - These nerfs really didn't do much to horse-boy. He's still the same rampaging nonsense he was before, except now his early game is better.
  • Kayle - Increasing the missle speed actually made up for the other nerfs, and she's still just as annoying as always.
  • Nasus - The buffs from 3.0.2 are starting to become apparent, and Nasus is back to the most annoying CC ever, especially on AD carries. By bringing his late game closer than before, he's starting to deal enough damage mid-game to make it nearly impossible to win late.
  • Nidalee - The nerfs hit her top lane tank build a bit, but her AP form is completely unchanged. If anything, she clears waves faster now for split-pushing.
  • Quinn - 1v1 she's EXTREMELY strong, but the problem is when it's not 1v1. In a teamfight her ultimate doesn't play a big factor unless you're already winning, and her escape...well it's not exactly an escape.
  • Sejuani - Secretly OP...she's actualy kinda strong, but nobody plays her, so nobody remembers to dodge her ultimate.
  • Taric - Lol. Nerfs. I remember my first time nerfing a champ...amateur hour.
  • Tryndamere - The nerfs to his heal along with the release of the new and improved Blade of the Ruined King basically brought back unmoveable AD Tryndamere. I think AP Tryndamere was more favorable...
  • Twitch - His laning phase is actually outrageously strong, and even without taking full advantage of his invisibility his poison expunge combo hits very hard.
  • Vayne - The new blade of the ruined king synergizes extremely well with her, I'm expecting a comeback of Vayne players. She still suffers from the same issues as before though.
  • Vi - The nerfs to the various junglers actually hit Vi the hardest, since she was the one who had to get up into people's faces without having a heal like Hecarim or Xin.
  • Xerath - He's got some insane damage, but truth be told I think he's a very player-by-player basis type of champion. He has potential, but very few people can utilize it.
  • Xin Zhao - Once again. Ha. Nerfs.
  • Yorick - Yorick's extremely powerful top lane at the moment, but with the nerfs to AD carries his damage potential is much lower than it was in Season 2. The new Muramana definitely helps a ton though.
Disclaimer:
  • The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for hero selection.

  2. current thoughts on Thresh?

  3. SSJSuntasticMarch 04, 2013

Hi Ryan, Thresh has a lot of potential, but most people aren't very good at him...he's not as intuitive as Blitzcrank, and it took people years to figure out how to play him properly.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yay! Why did Lux get moved up to Tier 1?

    ReplyDelete
  5. SSJSuntasticMarch 04, 2013

No particular reason, I've always felt that she should be placed upper Tier 2 to lower Tier 1, and with the nerfs on a few heroes that bite her hard, I think she deserves a spot in Tier 1 now.

  6. Is this a joke? Thanks for the laughs on the Diana post!

  7. Hmm, I think ad tryndamere is way too high because its probably just Botrk that is giving him this unstoppable power. But with the incoming nerfs to Botrk his power should decrease dramatically. Also glad to see your playing twitch more and feeling his power :)

  8. SSJSuntasticMarch 05, 2013

That's definitely true Erik, after the Botrk nerf we'll have to reassess his strength. Meanwhile, indeed I've witnesssed the true terror of Twitch...Lol

  9. Wondering why tresh is so low, imo he's one of the best supports atm, a few good hooks and ults are sp gamechanging, would like your ideas on this

Nasus, I recon is pretty good at the moment, depending on who he's solo topping against. For example, I countered Nasus with teemo, playing aggressively. I ended up quite fed, due to the lack of farm Nasus was unable to obtain. I agree with Twitch being placed in the higher section of tier 2, his laning phase is just awesome, but again, it depends on how aggressive you and your opponent are.

HI Matthijs, I mentioned some thoughts on Thresh further up as well. He's got a lot of potential but his skillset makes it difficult for your teammates to consistently react appropriately to the plays you make. This in turn lowers the his overall win consistency in solo queue.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah, Shaco on tier 1? Why in earth, after nerfs he became one of the worst junglers in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Great list, I was just wondering why is Volibear tier 4? He seems pretty viable and I think he's becoming slowly more popular.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Like many SoloTop which are mostly close fighters dealing against a Jayce Nidalee Teemo Yorick etc...
Im gonna try it out this week since he is free on my smurf and make a feedback but the mana cost on his Q will most probably make him harder in mid game than late game since the 3.02 Patch.
If the person start boots 3pots against you as teemo then your domination is "logic"

  15. Hi against SSJSuntastic and thanks for your great job on this Tier List!

I got just to do some reaction on your note about champions moves.

Diana: She always has been knew as the worst nightmare mid of a Twisted Fate Player since she is out.
(He is my main i play him a lot more than 150games during S2 with him) the thing is that just like Akali you have to be extremely careful with their ultimate which are some sort of bursty gap closer...

Kayle: Before she was like Godlike but she received damage nerfed on her Q spell even if the animation speed increased she is not so strong as before imo...

I think you should consider Rengar Tier 3 minimum...

For the rest i mostly agree with you!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well he's certainly not the best anymore. The nerf to deceive and slow HURT. He should be placed below Vi, at the very least.

  17. lostdreamersMarch 05, 2013

have to say i don't think amumu should be that high, after range on his ult nerf as well as other things i think he is falling out of his 1st place spot. i would prefer xin, malphite or even j4 or mao. this could be my opinion but in silver 1 i keep seeing mumus failing everywhere :\

Hi Median, I'm actually a big fan of Volibear and love playing him on 3s. His damage output is good and his toss is great. I think the main issue with Volibear is the fact that he can be kited very easily, and his toss has a timer on it (in comparison with Singed who can do it whenever he pleases). I'd say that once a couple other popular heroes get nerfed, he'll definitely see a lot more play.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well he is Tier 2 minimum i played it after nerf didnt feel much like we have to mention THE nerf...
Just because he is getting slightly used to the change they madeon the champion mean lets just throw it into the hole otherwise explain to me in 5 consecutive games with Shaco i can win 4 of them?

  20. Tryndamere yesterday received the fix, you know what it is?

    ReplyDelete
  21. SSJSuntasticMarch 06, 2013

There was a bug with him where he was doing 0 damage to creeps with his spin or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why is veigar tier 4? I've taken out entire teams within seconds with him and gotten highest k/ds

    ReplyDelete
  23. SSJSuntastic you mention that Nasus is like on the top of Tier2 i suppose as a SoloTop role but what about jungler? whats in your mind about it?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Simply because
    Slow
    Squishy

Require Late Game to perform better

Hard to handle in some situation

There are champions which are Tier 3 or 4 here which turn Tier 1 or 2 in Premade sessions.
    Do you see the point?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good list but uh, xin zhao should be tier 2 atleast dropped. sooo nerfeeeed

    ReplyDelete
  26. why tryndamere tier 1 ?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nerf is a big word...he still BIG!

    ReplyDelete
  28. First because AP Tryndamere but then nerfed
Second: Blade of the Ruined King item. (Make Trynda STRONK!)

    ReplyDelete
  29. hey can i ask why is trundle so low on the list and what is his weak points

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've never Ever liked the idea or complaints about Nerfing in any regards. As someone who used to play fighting games competitively it was annoying that they would nerf Top-Tier characters when what they really should have done was Improve the Weaker characters to be able to contend with the top of the class.

Riot should beef up the weaker champions while keeping the strong champions alone. This way it will compensate them and allow them to contend against the stronger champions, which also makes it so that the players whom are still/like playing the "already" strong champions won't have to switch out or be forced to no longer playing that champion due to unnecessary nerfs that puts them into mediocrity.

We see this happen All the time and it's annoying. You can unquestionably make for more viable champions by scaling the weaker characters to be better, but by nerfing the best and improving the weak ones you'll get the same results from before. You want to make it so the gaps between champions are not very large, but close enough that anyone can be nearly viable in each case.

Honestly, it's good to see Trynd up this high once again, a long while back when he got his unnecessary beat down it was laughable and he went from being actually playable and showing up in tournaments to nearly disappearing all together, not something I didn't like.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think this is partly the business strategy of Riot. By doing these obscure balance changes they can bring unplayed champions to a must purchase state and drop the most popular champions that everyone already have to unplayable state. Personally I have 3 champions per role that I excel at and because of constant changes I need to switch around with these champions as well just to stay as a viable ranked player.

    ReplyDelete
  32. He still gets CCed and dies like every other Melee AD Carry.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, I agree. Strong use of his stun wins teamfights.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The difference between Blitz and Thresh is Blitz can 100-0 you himself after his burst gets higher. You ever fought Blitz solo top? He's really tough against certain matchups.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What you mean uh?
So damn weak.... BIG BIG cooldown and dmg nerf

    ReplyDelete
  36. No logic in dat comment just like any champion weak to CC get killed...

    ReplyDelete
  37. he is too weak on his offensive stats and his skills kit is just not as impressive as other champions...If you try him after a few games you will get the point!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you even read fully the tierlist ? If Xin got big cooldown wonder what Rengar is ....Massive CD ?

    ReplyDelete
  39. disqus_oKF6767PK7March 10, 2013

I main with Viktor and deal loads of damage with him all the time. His AOE burst/AOE stun are great. Why is he tier 4?

    ReplyDelete
  40. SSJSuntasticMarch 10, 2013

It's the skillcap along with difficulty to return ratio that keeps him down. Sure if you hit everything then you're amazingly good, but the average viktor will likely not be as strong as the average swain.

    ReplyDelete
  41. There is literally no difference in time for volibear and singed toss's.....

    ReplyDelete
  42. SSJSuntasticMarch 11, 2013

Actually there's a massive difference. Volibear runs around like a madman for 4 seconds for 4 seconds and then he can't toss for another 8 seconds. Singed runs around like a mad man for 20 minutes and tosses whenever he pleases.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Not to mention when you decide to turn around and change singed you chase in poison that is potentially slowing -_-

    ReplyDelete
  44. Chasing into poison? I delete comments cause I am vagina.

    ReplyDelete
  45. SSJSuntasticMarch 12, 2013

Hi David, and thanks! Rengar is strong in the hands of a good player, but he tends to have low presence in teamfights after his nerfs unless he's snowballed hard enough to either burst someone down in one shot or be tanky enough to survive kiting.

    ReplyDelete
  46. SSJSuntasticMarch 12, 2013

Hi Lostdreamers, it's true that the other champions you mentioned are stronger early game gankers and can potentially carry a team harder than Amumu. However, Amumu scales very hard into late game even by building full tank, and is very simple for teammates to follow up on. I think it's for this reason that he still does well.

    ReplyDelete
  47. SSJSuntasticMarch 12, 2013

Hi Daniel, of course a strong Veigar will be extremely powerful, but the problem is generally in his consistency. If you can land everything constantly then he's strong, but against certain champions it's absolute death for Veigar if he fails to counterplay them even once.

    ReplyDelete
  48. SSJSuntasticMarch 12, 2013

I think his jungle is fairly strong, and I think wither needs a nerf.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well Ok i have the same feeling about Khartus he is just so strong but easy to manipulate in 1v1...He tends to require too much help imo...I would get a higher winrate playing Lux or Kayle by playing it in row than Khartus...He depends too much of a good jungler...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Good to know :) thx i actualy saw few yesterday and i must say...Its strong! the change on Q Spell and the buff on ult make him really strong!
The only issue i had with him was the lanning which i find...boring. If you want to do your job properly you have only one offensive spell and you have to keep it for farming...

    ReplyDelete
  51. What did i say :)
    Highest pick champion increase > Tristana (12.20% -> 20.11% (+7.91%)
    Highest win rate champion increase > Tristana (47.07% -> 50.23% (+3.16%)
What i predictable happened now you just have to say you are a yordle hater to not increase her in tierlist :p

    ReplyDelete
  52. SSJSuntasticMarch 12, 2013

In all fairness, Tristana also got an attack speed per level buff :P

    ReplyDelete
  53. So what uh? Xin Zhao sucks big cooldowns and damage nerfs to 2 ABILITIES! SO dead compared to old school big boy. ''Xin Zhao - Once again. Ha. Nerfs.'' What you mean with that? Yeah he was hit hard nerfs. Should be atlest TIER 2, and at lowest would be tier 3.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree that he should be tier 2 now, he's not that old gamechanger anymore, he doesn't deserve to be a tier 1 jungler.

    ReplyDelete

    OK!
Xin Pick rate decreased of 10%
Xin Win rate decreased of 2.35%...
2.35%...Before indeed he was OP now he is more legit lets say "balanced" mean lets drop him dead in tier list? LOL OK BOY!

  56. Finally yes, someone agree with me. Thanks for backing me up bro. I think tier 2 is proper for xin.
