LoL Untargetability Guide: What It Blocks and What Still Lands

LoL untargetability guide preview

Untargetability blocks skillshots too, deletes projectiles already in flight, and makes turrets restart their targeting from scratch. But ten of the abilities that grant it don't eat projectiles at all.

Untargetability

Being Unclickable

An untargetable unit is invalid for point-and-click spells, auto-targeted effects, auras, skillshots and ground-targeted abilities alike, with basic attacks, summoner spells, item actives and runes all included.

That's broader than most players assume. A skillshot passing through an untargetable champion does nothing at all, even though it was never aimed at them specifically.

Anything already on you keeps working

Untargetability doesn't remove buffs or debuffs you're already carrying. Damage over time keeps ticking, tethers stay attached, and a delayed mark placed before you pressed the button still detonates on schedule.

Which is exactly why those delayed abilities exist. They're written to survive the button their target is about to press, and that's the counterplay to every escape on this page.

It eats projectiles already in flight

Most untargetability destroys incoming targeted projectiles outright. A long-range shot halfway across the map, a homing blade, a turret's next attack, all deleted rather than delayed.

It also cancels any command that had acquired you, so an enemy walking over to attack you simply stops walking.

Ten of them don't do that

Projectile deletion is a separate flag rather than part of the definition. Of the twenty-five champion abilities that grant untargetability, ten (40% of them) are explicitly marked as not destroying anything already in the air, and two more only do it in specific cases.

Aurora, Karthus, Kayn, Kog'Maw, Poppy, Urgot, Yuumi, Zac and Zilean are on that list, and so is Sion's stasis (nine champions plus Sion makes the ten). Gwen's mist eats champion projectiles but not the ones from minions and turrets, and Viego stays targetable to turrets on purpose.

So the same shot that vanishes against one champion's escape connects against another's. If yours is one of the exceptions, don't count on it as an answer to a long-range ultimate.

Turrets and minions drop you instantly

Any non-champion unit attacking you loses its target the moment you become untargetable, and has to acquire a new one afterward.

That's a genuine dive tool. Going untargetable under an enemy turret dodges the current shot and also makes the turret start its targeting logic again from the beginning (often several seconds of not being shot, rather than one).

Stasis and vanish are untargetability with extras

Stasis is the version everybody has already used, because Zhonya's Hourglass and Seeker's Armguard both grant it, along with Bard's ultimate, Ekko's, Sion's, Lissandra on herself and Syndra on a non-champion. You're untargetable for its duration, so every rule above applies, and you also can't act, take damage or move.

Vanish goes one step further. It carries the whole untargetable package, stops you acting, and makes you genuinely undetectable (minimap included). Weirdly, every player is briefly vanished at the start of a Summoner's Rift game, which is why nobody shows up on the map for the first moment of it.

One last exception that catches people. A handful of empowered basic attacks have windups that can't be canceled, and several of those complete and land even though you turned untargetable partway through. Going untargetable is an answer to the attack that hasn't started yet.

Frequently asked questions

Do skillshots hit untargetable champions?

No. Untargetability covers skillshots and ground-targeted abilities as well as clicks.

Does going untargetable remove debuffs?

No. Anything already applied keeps running, including damage over time and delayed detonations.

Does it stop projectiles already fired?

Usually. Ten of the twenty-five abilities granting it are flagged not to destroy projectiles.

Does it reset turret aggro?

Yes. The turret loses you entirely and has to re-acquire a target.

Does Zhonya's make you untargetable?

Yes. Stasis grants untargetability on top of stopping you acting and taking damage, so every rule about projectiles and turret aggro applies to it.

Is untargetable the same as invulnerable?

No. Invulnerability takes zero damage but can still be targeted; untargetability can't be selected at all.

The short version

Use it before the projectile lands rather than after, know whether yours deletes shots or merely dodges them, and remember that anything already ticking on you is coming due regardless.

For the escapes that move you instead, our dashes guide covers walls and landing spots, and our stealth guide covers the other way to stop being clickable.
