Once Season 9 kicks off, players will be introduced to separate rankings for each role. This means specializing in a specific role won't be as effective as specializing in a set of champions that can fulfill a large variety of roles. Luckily, with the meta shifts Riot is promoting lately, almost anything is possible... Which champions will be the most effective in Season 9? Check out our top 10 prediction picks below!

Introduction

Once Season 9 kicks off, players will be introduced to separate rankings for each role. This means specializing in a specific role won't be as effective as specializing in a set of champions that can fulfill a large variety of roles. Luckily, with the meta shifts Riot is promoting lately, almost anything is possible...

Which champions will be the most effective in Season 9? Check out our top 10 prediction picks below!

Yasuo

Yasuo may constantly be banned, but when he's not he can be found in nearly every meta and lane. Even when he's not meta, diehard Yasuo mains always find a way to make him viable through alternative methods (I'm looking at you Mr. Frozen Mallet Yasuo). Sometimes you'll even find him in the jungle, succeeding against all odds.

Wukong

Possibly my favorite pick here, Wukong can literally play every role in the game to great effect. Unless they change the stealth mechanics in the upcoming season, Wukong's true invisibility allows him to dominate backlines. Meanwhile, the new bot lane meta allows him to snowball quickly into a roam-based role. In the upcoming Season 9 along with the rest of Season 8, expect this monkey to demolish teams.

Irelia

If the new Irelia's shown us one thing after her rework, it's that Irelia is just as flexible as anyone else when it comes to battling toe-to-toe with any ranged, melee, spellcasting, auto-attacking, bruiser-tank-support that she meets up with. As a powerful hyper carry, she can be funneled to success in any lane.

Lucian

As a ranged champion that has a tendency to get up-close and personal, Lucian's abilities to kite from short range and burst from the same give him a variety of perfectly acceptable roles in nearly all metas. Even when he's not performing well as a marksman, he can be shifted over to the top and mid lanes. Meanwhile, as one of the first marksmen to survive the bruiser meta, it's clear he's got some staying power.

Cho'Gath

A flexibility list that doesn't contain Cho'Gath isn't much of a list at all. While he's nowhere near as powerful as he was in his prime, Cho'Gath can still be effective in all the lanes as long as you can land his ruptures. True damage never goes out of style, and honestly, neither does being completely unkillable.

Talon

Similar to Wukong, Talon's proven himself in every lane in the game. His burst damage is crazy, and he snowballs incredibly hard against everyone he encounters. While scaling champions late game could be a problem, Talon almost always gets the first hit off. This allows him to out-trade otherwise losing match-ups.

Pyke

Placing a new champion here rather than a time-honored one might overconfidence, but I do think Pyke has what it takes to rule the Rift in the upcoming season. His flexibility is immense, and players will only get better at his complex skillset as time goes on. If you want to one-trick Pyke in the next year, you might come out on top with your investment as you practice through Season 8.

Taliyah

Honestly, I never really thought Taliyah would make a list like this. However, after the changes on her kit's damage against jungle minions, Taliyah is truly one of the most flexible picks out there. Although she's rarely played in any lane other than jungle in the current meta, she's still perfectly viable as a mid-laner. She can also be played in any other role to solid effect, and if you take advantage of her cheese potential she's very easy to snowball with.

Fiddlesticks

Similar to Taliyah, Fiddlesticks was always a champion that seemed difficult to lane with after everyone started running Ignite and various heal reductions in every lane. However, I could definitely see something like Aftershock Fiddlesticks top lane working against the large majority of picks without hard-CC.

Morgana

Morgana is one of those picks that works in every lane, but happens to be so incredibly flexible with her catching ability via her binding and incredibly useful black shield that even if she just goes even in her lane, she can help the team out in the late game. Jungle, Top and Mid Lane Morgana used to be incredibly common, and honestly, they still work.

Overall, there are a ton of champion picks out there that work, but if you intend on going far in Season 9, practicing these champions will certainly land you a good spot. Meanwhile, they're also quite strong in Season 8, and practicing them could easily boost you up another division or tier.
