Solo Queue Tier List Archive: Patch 7.14 (July 18, 2017)

Hi everyone, woke up early to get the list ready, so here it is in all its glory! This time around, Malzahar's taking flight to the top of the pack, and with Fiora nerfed, a few new top laners are sneaking back up. Meanwhile, Duskblade is looking particular strong this patch, but with the hotfix on the way, I'd say most of the carriers will still be in line with the normal power level.

The purpose of this list is to pick out the champions that when played, will allow you to climb divisions the fastest by winning more games. This list contains more off-meta and counter-meta placements that do well against popular picks.

Instructions and Caveats:

• Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
• Champions UNDERLINED may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgment.
• Within each tier, the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
• Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
• Professional Picks may not necessarily translate into good picks for solo queue ladder, the two have slightly different meta-games and skill levels.
• The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.

God Tier: These champions are almost impossible to keep down. If your team doesn't make it a priority to shut down these champions and shut them down hard, even if they lose their lane, lose in CS, and it's their first time playing the champion, they can be a massive nuisance for your team. On the other hand, if they're actually good at the champion...that's when it's time to throw in the towel. Tier 1: These champions generally do very well regardless, and have some sort of advantage over most other champions. When they do well, their team does well. Even when they don't do well, their team still has a good chance of a comeback victory by utilizing one or more aspects of their late game utility. Tier 2: This is the Tier of balanced champions where Riot shoots to place their designs. These champions generally do well in their own right, and are very strong picks with a good chance of winning. However, they're not overpowered by any means and do have their weaknesses. Tier 3: These champions can still do very well, but tend to need a little more snowballing to get rolling. Even if they get an early lead, it's still very possible to turn the tides on them with just a mistake or two. They may also have some weaknesses that can be capitalized on. Tier 4: These champions are either underpowered or offer less reward than other champions for the same amount of effort. These champions basically start winning from the get-go or get made fun of for the rest of the game. They need gold to do their job correctly, and if they don't get enough of it, they become sandbags for the enemy team to punch. Chances of a comeback with one of these champions feeding on your team is almost none.

Champion Explanations

• Alistar [Tier 1 Support] - The 5% increase on his base damage reduction represents a 10% total increase, which translates to a decent amount. When you couple this with the fact that he tends to do well against hook supports like Blitzcrank and Thresh, he does quite well in the current meta.
• Fiora [Tier 1 Top] - The nerf on the movement speed provided by her passive ends up making it much more difficult to proc all her vitals, especially during her Grand Challenge [R]. She can still do well, but needs to position herself more carefully in order to truly maximize her damage.
• Janna [God Tier Support] - The influx of AD-based champions makes Janna indirectly stronger. With the current status of Duskblade, more players are choosing to pick up AD-based assassins, one of Janna's favorite allies.
• Kayn [Tier 2 Jungle] - Overall, it looks like most players are not doing well with Kayn, but high division players are finding high success with him if they can get him snowballing.
• Kled [God Tier Top] - After the Fiora nerfs, Kled's back to God Tier as a top laner. His ability to dominate almost any melee laner is immense, and his mid to late game team fight tends to be extremely powerful. Meanwhile, most players are still relatively confused when it comes to when to expect Kled's remount, resulting in devastating outplays.
• Malzahar [God Tier Mid] - Malzahar as a whole has been extremely powerful ever since his changes in Patch 7.11, despite his subsequent nerf in Patch 7.12. His Call of the Void [Q] was improved significantly, resulting in higher AOE burst damage and more reliable refreshing of his Malefic Visions [E]. In his current state, players have to build QSS early or face his wrath. In a meta that's currently touting lethality-based champions, this ends up handicapping the enemy team.
• Maokai [Tier 1 Jungle] - Ever since the buff on Maokai's ultimate in Patch 7.13, his post-6 ganks are much stronger. 
• Miss Fortune [Tier 1 Marksman] - Although it'll be hotfixed shortly, Miss Fortune's extremely strong right now because of the overall power on Duskblade. I think she'll still deserve high Tier 1 after the hotfix as a result of her powerful laning phase and excellent mid-game.
• Orianna [Tier 1 Mid] - Professionals often say that Orianna is one of the safest mid-laners out there and nearly impossible to abuse. As a result, she's definitely high tier material. However, she's still more difficult to use than the God Tier champions and relies on her team a bit more for optimal operating efficiency.
• Talon [Tier 1 Top] - Talon's ability to snowball top lane is extraordinarily good this patch as a result of the changes to lethality, especially on Duskblade. However, he'll likely take a small hit after the hotfix goes through, so I'm not looking to place him terribly high right now.
