Since we didn't get to do a Weird Pick Wednesday last week, let's walk through a quick Monday guide on Hybrid Ezreal! With his super fun skill set, Ezreal's always been a crowd favorite. Even though he keeps getting outscaled as Riot buffs other marksmen, I think he's finally found a niche as a hybrid mid laner with the new Guinsoo's Rageblade! Check out the full details below:

Introduction

Since we didn't get to do a Weird Pick Wednesday last week, let's walk through a quick Monday guide on Hybrid Ezreal!

With his super fun skill set, Ezreal's always been a crowd favorite. Even though he keeps getting outscaled as Riot buffs other marksmen, I think he's finally found a niche as a hybrid mid laner with the new Guinsoo's Rageblade! Check out the full details below:

How to Play
Runes: 3 Attack Damage Quints, Hybrid Penetration Reds, Flat Armor Yellows, Flat Magic Resist Blues
Masteries: 18-12-0, AD Caster Masteries
Abilities: Q, E, W, then prioritize  R > Q > W > E
Core Items: Muramana, Guinsoo's Rageblade, Hextech Gunblade
Additional Items: Lichbane, Deathcap, Voidstaff OR Iceborn Gauntlet/Trinity Force, Bloodthirster, Essence Reaver

Why It Works

Insane Waveclear
Ezreal's prime weakness has always been an inability to clear waves with any sort of efficiency, especially if he builds ability power. However, now with Guinsoo's Rageblade providing mini AOE damage on his auto attacks, he can quickly and efficiently clear out waves instantly, without his ultimate.

Strong Dual Scaling
Unlike many other champions, Ezreal has the ability to scale strongly off both AP and AD, with the classic tradeoff being between waveclear and burst damage. However, since Guinsoo's Rageblade and Hextech Gunblade are extremely strong right now, it removes the need to make a choice between the two. Instead, Ezreal can use both his Q and his W to great effect.

Powerful Kiting Power and Utility
Depending on what kind of composition your team needs, Ezreal can quickly transition between a kite comp via Iceborn Gauntlet or a burst comp via building straight AP. With the number of spells at his disposal, he can continuously barrage the enemy team with damage. This leads to quite a high uptime on the Deathfire Touch mastery, which is extremely strong right now on sustained damage dealers.

Potential Pitfalls

Ramp Up Time
Similar to Jax, Ezreal does have a bit of ramp up time to get up to full power during a team fight if he's not planning on using his escape offensively. However, he can get to an extremely high level at the end of a team fight compared to the beginning. Under pressure from Guinsoo's Rageblade combined with his natural passive, enemy teams will definitely want to make sure he's not the last one standing.

Tear Rush
If Ezreal is planning on spamming all his spells, his mana pool drains extremely quickly, even with blue buff. As a result, rushing a tear is still vital to his performance. As a result, his power spike is somewhat delayed compared to other mid laners. However, it's really no different than say, an Anivia.

All Skill
One of the main complaints about Ezreal is that he's not very reliable since all his spells are skillshots. However, this build offers him extra damage resources even if he goes for an AP build and misses half his spells. With the current overpowered state of Guinsoo's Rageblade, hybrid champions like Ezreal are sure to feel a big boost through building it.

Conclusions

Hybrid Ezreal mid takes away a lot of weaknesses that AD and AP Ezreal have by themselves. However, he does ramp up slowly both in battle and during the course of the game.

On the other hand, once he does ramp up, he's an absolute powerhouse that feels somewhat like a ranged version of Jax. The longer a battle goes on, the stronger and stronger he inevitably becomes.

Suggested Rating: Mid Tier 1
