Buff and Objective Respawn Timers: Live Game and League Classic

Two sets of timers, because there are now two Summoner's Rifts. The live game runs on one schedule and League Classic recreates a Season 3 map that runs on a completely different one.

This page has been a jungle timer reference since 2011, and it has become useful again for an unexpected reason. League Classic recreates a Season 3 era Summoner's Rift, and the timers on this page were last set for Patch 3.8, which is Season 3.

So the old table is not history anymore. It is the reference for a mode you can queue for right now. Both sets are below, clearly separated, because mixing them up is how you lose a Baron.

Live game · Season 16

Epic Objectives, Current

ObjectiveFirst SpawnRespawn
Elemental Drake5:005:00
Void Grubs8:00Once per game, despawn 14:45
Rift Herald15:00Once per game, despawns 19:45
Baron Nashor20:006:00
Elder DragonAfter a team's 4th drake6:00

Drakes are the metronome of the early game: first one at five minutes, another every five after, and Dragon Soul on a team's fourth. Once a soul is claimed the pit produces Elder instead. The three Baron variants all spawn on the same schedule as each other; only the fight changes.

Jungle Camps, Current

CampFirst SpawnRespawn
Blue Sentinel0:555:00
Red Brambleback0:555:00
Murk Wolves0:552:15
Raptors0:552:15
Gromp1:072:15
Krugs1:072:15

Almost everything opens at 0:55. Gromp and Krugs are the two exceptions at 1:07, which is exactly why they tend to be the last camp in a clear rather than the first. Scuttle Crab arrives at 2:55, well after the rest, which is why the first scuttle so often turns into the game's first skirmish: both junglers finish their opening clear at roughly the same moment it appears.

Respawns are just two numbers: five minutes for the buffs, two fifteen for everything else. If you saw a camp die you can work out its return time from those alone.

Reading the Timers

The map tells you more than most players use. A live camp shows a diamond icon at its location. Sixty seconds before a camp respawns, a greyed out hourglass appears there instead, and at ten seconds it lights up. The same timers are on the scoreboard.

That visual countdown only exists for six camps: Blue Sentinel, Red Brambleback, Void Grubs, Rift Herald, Baron and Drake. Everything else you have to track yourself, which is the entire reason the two numbers above are worth memorising.

Two quirks worth exploiting. The buff camps will show you their timer if you simply gain vision of the location later, even if you never saw them die. And every epic monster kill is announced to both teams, so nobody ever has an information advantage on Baron, Drake, Herald or grubs. The edge available to you is entirely in the small camps, which are invisible unless someone was watching.

The Full Season 3 Table

These are this page's original timers, set for Patch 3.8 and unedited since. They describe the map League Classic is built on.

Unit NameSpawn TimeRespawn Timer
Summoner's Rift
Blue Buff Golem1:555:00
Red Buff Lizard1:555:00
Dragon2:306:00
Baron15:007:00
Mini Golems1:550:50
Wolves1:550:50
Wraiths1:550:50
Twisted Treeline
Jungle Monsters1:400:50
Altars Unlock3:001:30
Vilemaw10:005:00

Twisted Treeline was removed from the game in 2019 and is not part of League Classic. Those rows are kept purely as a record.

The differences that will actually catch you out. Baron came at 15:00 in Season 3 and comes at 20:00 now. Dragon arrived at 2:30 back then and there was no soul to collect, no Elder, no Void Grubs and no Rift Herald at all. If you queue Classic with modern instincts you will be standing at an empty Baron pit for five minutes.

Call Them Out

Whichever map you are on, the habit is the same: the moment a buff or objective dies, type the time it comes back into team chat. It costs two seconds and it is the cheapest coordination in the game. Typing when the enemy first takes their buffs works just as well for tracking the enemy jungler.

For what each objective actually grants, see our objective guides, and for the vocabulary the Terms Glossary.
