Looking for a tier list that gives you a better idea of what champions other players think are powerful in the current meta? This list takes out the unorthodox selections from the standard tier list and uses a data-driven approach to pick out what players are most afraid of and think are strongest.

Nerfs on some of the most dominant laners in every lane are shifting the meta. We're now seeing a lot more late-game hypercarries come into play bot lane. This is naturally coupled with only the best gank-heavy junglers capable of killing them.

The purpose of the "Flavor of the Month" ("FOTM") list is to show which champions are popular in today's metagame in terms of pro picks and high Elo choices.

Instructions and Caveats:

• This tier list details which champions are most popular in today's current metagame, for better or for worse. Selecting a high popularity champion and doing mediocre is always favorable to selecting a low tier champion and doing mediocre for team morale.

God Tier: These champions are common bans and are likely perceived as being "overall extremely strong/broken". They have very obvious and/or flashy skills that make them appear stronger than other champions. You'll likely see these champions picked early on if they're not banned.

Tier 1: These champions are the ones you'll see in the majority of your games and are good to familiarize yourself with as you'l be battling against them a lot.

Tier 2: These champions are relatively strong and have historically been picked more often than other champions. They may have been nerfed at one point at another, but are still perceived as strong in their current states.

Tier 3: These champions aren't quite as popular as the rest of the champions in the first 3 tiers, but picking them one at a time isn't going to cause much of a concern on your team. However, if you have a team of 5 of them your teammates are likely to feel a bit uneasy about your chances of winning in solo queue.

Tier 4: Selecting these champions will likely cause a rift between you and your teammates, who will proceed to flame you if you fail your lane. Exercise caution when selecting these champions, as team morale often plays a big part in victory or defeat.

Champion Explanations

• Hecarim [Tier 1 Jungle] - When it comes to rapid pace, gank-heavy junglers, Hecarim fits the bill. However, he's somewhat of a selfish jungler and needs constant buffs and kills to remain relevant. On the other hand, if he snowballs it becomes very difficult to stay alive in lane regardless of how well you ward. Mid-game, once he gets his Trinity Force he starts one-shotting squishies using his low-skill charge, resulting in quick, clean kills.
• Karthus [Tier 1 Jungle] - After nerfs to Karthus, he's quickly dropping down the list. It looks like he's found a place at the "strong, but not ban-worthy" spot. Late game he's still a major powerhouse, but otherwise his early game no longer does "where did my health bar go" damage. 
• Lissandra [Tier 1 Mid] - Lissandra is currently a main staple of mid-lane mains everywhere. She's got great sustained damage and provides good engagement potential, something most mages lack. Meanwhile, her ability to safely delete a single target and provide AOE crowd-control remains highly valued.
• Lucian [God Tier Marksman] - Ever since the nerfs to Lucian, he's been slowly dripping down the marksmen list. He's still highly played and feared, but losing steam as players choose less interactive champions to bypass his early game kill pressure. See here for more details.
• Morgana [God Tier Support] - With Thresh and Pyke players all over the Rift, it's no wonder that Morgana is being picked up again to prevent casualties on the back line. As a defensive and offensive combo champion, Morgana performs well on both sides. She doesn't have much in the way of sustained abilities, but what she does have is quite effective and gets the job done.
• Rek'Sai [God Tier Jungle] - By increasing the effective range of her ultimate to 1500 units, Rek'Sai is now one of the premiere junglers in League. Sporting an essentially undodgeable ultimate, Rek'Sai's ultimate operates much like Master Yi's Alpha Strike, rendering him effectively untargetable and following enemies through Flash.
• Sylas [God Tier Mid] - Sylas in his current state is incredibly strong against high cooldown mid-laners. He's capable of strong punishes, and his waveclear gives him the priority for early ultimate steals. In the current meta he's a solid pick that does well in and against most team compositions ever since his hotfix.
• Tristana [Tier 1 Marksman] - Tristana is quickly rising up the ranks after the changes to critical hit items. She's still not quite on the level as other fan favorites, but her mobility and burst damage make her a good alternative to when Ezreal is banned for a high mobility, long-range marksman.
• Yorick [God Tier Top] - Yorick's ultimate buff is making him one of the most obnoxious champions on the Rift. When you combine his absurd damage and tankiness, you get someone that's capable of going 1v5 with little more than an item or two.
• Zoe [Tier 1 Mid] - Zoe's success in the current meta is mostly a result of her personal damage output. On the other hand, she also works extremely well with Ezreal as a poke duo. Luckily, Ezreal is also the most played marksman on the Rift in the current meta.
