Funny Things Every LoL Player Has Done
10 Moments You'll Recognize
You've done all ten of these. Everyone has. Some of them you did this week.
League is a game about small mistakes, and the funniest ones aren't the mechanical misses. They're the moments where you do something completely reasonable at exactly the wrong time.
No rank is safe from any of these. Counting down to the one nobody gets to claim they've avoided.
#10: Flashing Into the Wall
You had the range. You were sure you had the range. You press it while running, the camera stutters, and you end up standing against the same rock with no summoner spell and a very interested jungler behind you.
The worst part is that it's never in a quiet moment. It's always the one time it mattered, and there's always somebody watching who types a single question mark.
#9: Recalling in the Middle of a Fight
Your hand knows where the recall button is better than your brain does. A fight breaks out, you reach for something defensive, and instead you begin a peaceful eight second animation in the middle of five people.
What makes it art is the cancel. You have plenty of time to stop it, you always notice about half a second too late, and by then you've taken damage anyway and lost both the fight and the trip home.
#8: The Message That Went to All Chat
A perfectly ordinary plan for the next objective, typed carefully, sent to everyone in the game including the five people it was about. The enemy team gets a full read of what you're doing and, worse, they get to reply.
The advanced version is a complaint about your own teammate that lands in all chat instead, which somehow unites eight people against you inside about four seconds.
#7: Taking Your Jungler's Camp by Accident
You were pushing the wave, one auto-attack drifted a bit wide, and now a large monster is following you and the health bar is dropping and you may as well finish it. Your jungler has been walking toward it for six seconds.
Nobody has ever successfully explained this one. There's no version of the sentence that doesn't sound like you did it on purpose, so most people just don't type anything and hope the moment passes.
#6: Chasing One Kill Under Three Turrets
They're on a sliver of health. You're faster than them. The math works right up until the second turret, and by the time you're deep enough to reconsider you're already too committed to walk out.
Everyone knows this is bad and everyone does it anyway, because the only thing your brain can see at that moment is a health bar that's nearly empty. It's the single most reliable way to hand a losing lane back to the enemy.
#5: Sitting on Enough Gold for Two Items
The fight starts, you die, and on the death screen you notice you've been carrying four thousand gold around for the last eight minutes. You had a full item's worth of power in your pocket the whole time and never went back for it.
It happens most to the people playing well, which is the joke. You're winning your lane so comfortably that you never feel the need to leave it, and then you lose a fight you'd have won two items ago.
#4: Realizing at Twenty Minutes That You Never Bought Boots
Everything felt slightly wrong all game. You kept arriving late, you kept getting caught in the open, and you assumed you were just having a bad one. Then you look at your inventory and there's an empty slot where movement speed should be.
It's one of the very few mistakes in League that punishes you continuously for twenty minutes without ever announcing itself. There's no death, no play, nothing to clip. It's just quietly worse.
#3: The Blind Hook That Lands
You've missed every skillshot in the game. Twenty of them, all game, in a row, in front of everybody. Then at thirty minutes you throw one into a wall on instinct with no vision whatsoever, and it lands on the enemy carry and ends the match.
This isn't a mistake so much as the reward for a whole game of them, and it counts. It also guarantees you'll spend the next three games trying to do it again on purpose, which never works.
#2: Voting to Surrender, Getting Refused, and Winning
You called it at fifteen. Two people voted with you, two didn't, and you spent the next twenty minutes making it very clear how you felt about that. Then a fight goes your way, then another, and the game ends with your team in the enemy base.
Nobody ever brings it up afterwards, because everyone in that lobby has been on both sides of it. The correct move is to type "gg" and never mention the vote again.
#1: One More Game at Two in the Morning
You said last game two games ago. You have work in five hours. You're queueing anyway, because the last one ended badly and you can't leave it there, and everyone knows what happens to the game you play specifically to fix the previous one.
It's the funniest thing every League player has done because it's the only one that isn't a mistake in the game at all. You knew exactly what you were doing, you did it on purpose, and you'll do it again this week.
Set an alarm, at least. The queue will still be there tomorrow.
Conclusions
Every entry here comes from the same place: League asks for a lot of small decisions very quickly, and the ones that go wrong are usually the ones you made without thinking about them. Nobody chooses to flash into a wall or recall in a fight. Your hands just get there first.
Which is worth knowing if you're trying to climb. The gap between ranks isn't mechanical most of the time, it's how many of these happen per game, and that number goes down with attention rather than practice.
For more of the game's comedy with an actual win attached, we've written up the funniest ways to win a game and the duo queue combos that look like griefing and aren't.
Every ranking we've argued about is collected on the Top Ten Thursdays hub.
