2016 Champion Tier List - Solo Queue - Patch 6.1 Update

Hi everyone and welcome to the new list! The keystone masteries are still the talk of the show, and after Riot's latest changes, the meta's starting to shake up quite a bit.

In this patch, assassins are making a comeback along with bursty AP champions courtesy of the Thunderlord's Decree buff. Meanwhile, tank based junglers are still powerful in the current meta as they provide some front line potential to go along with all these damage based laners.

Anyway, check out the full list below!

SEASON 6 - PATCH 6.1 SOLO QUEUE TIER LIST
"Division Climbers"

This List has been updated, and new versions are available via this link

Preface Chatter

Hi everyone and welcome to the official start of Season 6, welcoming in Patch 6.1!

This patch features quite a few radical changes including the introduction of a new AP jungle item and some very high skill cap champions like Zed and Ezreal somehow making their way to the top of the list.

Meanwhile, you might see that I'm starting to slowly change the list format a little. It's looking a bit cluttered with the number of champions on the board, so stay tuned for some potential format changes.

I also know that some of you are requesting the Twisted Treeline tier list updated, and I haven't forgotten. It's on a very long to do list, but I'll hopefully get to it sometime this week.

As always, don't forget to like the site on Facebook if you haven't already!

The purpose of this list is to pick out the champions that when played, will allow you to climb divisions the fastest by winning more games. This list contains more off-meta and counter-meta placements that do well against popular picks.
If you're looking for a more meta based tier list based on popularity, be sure to check out the FOTM list as well!

Instructions and Caveats:

  • Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
  • Champions UNDERLINED may be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
  • Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
  • This tier list takes data from ALL players; however, since the majority of players fall in the first three tiers, the majority of data points will come from there.
  • Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength, but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
  • The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.

Champion Explanations

  • Brand [Tier 1 Mid] - Apparently his bugged ultimate was a sizable chunk of his 1v1 lane dominance mid. Although he no longer gets ludicrous numbers of same target hits on his ultimate, Brand still packs a punch and sports excellent synergy with Rylai.
  • Diana [Tier 1 Jungle] - The new AP jungle item Runic Echoes is strong on Diana. This plus the focus on marksman slaying allows her to perform well as a jungler with a double gap closer and powerful burst damage.
  • Elise [Tier 1 Jungle] - Similar to Diana, the new jungle item works extremely well on Elise and increases her clear speed as well as her overall burst damage.
  • Ezreal [God Tier Marksman] - I know what you're thinking: Ezreal...God Tier? Impossible. Well apparently, the new blue build Ezreal is performing extremely well against the multitude of all-in assassins and other single target killers popular on the rift now. The buff on last whisper is also insanely good on him, as his main weakness late game was always killing tanks.
  • Fiddlesticks [Tier 1 Jungle] - Finally, a jungle item that makes sense on Fiddlesticks arrived! Riot relegated poor Fiddlesticks to some sort of strange mechanically intense Runeglaive role prior to this patch, but the new Runic Echoes works perfectly with his AOE burst damage kit.
  • Graves [God Tier Marksman] - Similar to Ezreal, as the tankiest champion on the rift Graves is performing excellently against the onslaught of assassins. Riot also buffed his late game quite hard via the last whisper change, and as a very spell intensive champion, gains a lot from armor penetration.
  • Graves [God Tier Jungle] - Some popular players in Korea have discovered the optimal Graves jungle build, and it's surprisingly effective. By building Yomuu's, Maw of Malmortious, and Sterak's Gage, Graves quickly becomes a nearly unkillable burst damage marksman.
  • Illaoi [Tier 2 Top] - As players learn to deal with Illaoi, she starts to fall off harder. Stay out of her tentacle zone and she does very little in the way of damage or utility.
  • Lee Sin [Tier 1 Jungle] - Despite his very low win rate at the moment, it seems that most Lee Sins simply aren't utilizing their early ganks as well as they could. As long as you can ward jump, Lee is quite strong in the current meta and not too difficult to pull off.
  • Master Yi [God Tier Jungle] - As one of the two devourer + guinsoo champions still wreaking havoc on the rift, there's not much to say besides the fact that his numbers are quite high now.
  • Poppy [Tier 1 Top] - A champion that needs no introductions, rework Poppy has proven herself on the rift since her release. Her damage is still extremely varied, but she's definitely found her niche as a top laner and a support.
  • Shen [God Tier Top] - Shen in his current state is actually quite strong as a laner, and his kit works well in the current meta. Since he's getting reworked soon I won't go too in-depth on him, but essentially he's a very simple and rewarding champion to play considering the skill required.
  • Trundle [Tier 1 Support] - Another proven support, Trundle works very well against any tanky melee supports. Although he has trouble chasing people down mid to late game, his early game cheese and late game peel is excellent.
  • Vayne [Tier 2 Marksman] - The last whisper buff hurt Vayne in relative terms. As a primary true damage dealer who just needs to stack attack speed, she took down tanks prior to this patch considerably easier than other marksman did. However, now that the playing field is a bit more even against late game tanks, Vayne lost some of her niche.
  • Zed [God Tier Mid] - If these descriptions weren't in alphabetical order Zed would be first up on the list. Typically a high skill cap champion that needs quite a bit of finesse to play successfully, Thunderlord's Decree and the Assassin mastery have proven to be insanely effective on Zed. With a highly positive win rate at every single division in the game coupled with the highest play rate in the game, you really have to say riot...nerfplz.
